When the original came out in '86 my dad took me to see it. The man was a straight shooter. Never swore never did anything remotely illegal and was always polite. When the movie ended I went to stand up and he said "wait, just sit there for a min." The credits finished. Dad what... "We're gonna sit here till they play it again son." I couldnt believe my ears. My dad doing something so "against the rules". It was awesome and felt so right. Then Maverick came out and I brought my family with me. We unfortunately didn't stay for two viewings but I damn sure brought my dad with me. I set his ashes in the chair beside me. These two movies are more than just a show for me. It’s pretty Cool how Tom cruise after so many years can recreate a character with the same energy, just wiser and older. Makes this one of the best sequels to any movie ever. No wokeness, or silly hidden political messages, just a nice 2hrs and change escape from reality, in a theater full of clapping, laughing, and choking up, with strangers. Killer movie.

Joined the Navy because of the original movie. Was lucky to have seen tear jerking moments like this in real life. The real origin of a “tear jerk moment”…is caused by putting someone else before self. Whether it’s a shipmates needs before yours, or any situation …military or non military. And even though policies were usually made by some blowhard, whose own kids would never serve, there sure were some tough young men and women with me. Be proud, shed tears, put others first when you can. It’s what your dad woulda done too.

I saw this film in Imax in at the Toronto Cinesphere - Old school large Imax auditorium. There was something deeply sublime when the music swells in the transition between acts 2 and 3 - from Mav and Penny on the beach, to the carrier cutting through the sea. It was if the film, in a sense, was announcing that it intends to vindicate its own legend - and then proceeds to do just that with Act 3. "What my dad would have done" was a perfect coda.

Tom Cruise and the writers did such a good job so amazing to see the sequel surpassed the original! I think he did a little mission impossible switcheroo at the end a little bit of an Ethan Hunt angle stealing the F 14 off the enemy base. They did a good job with the rooster angle the way they develop the relationship from the beginning to the end , With Tom apologizing to goose for losing his son and when they fired the missile he thought for sure it was over but the plane explosion took out the missile as well and they were saved by the hangman! Kind of ironic to be saved by the hangman! A great movie to escape into to get your mind off your troubles every now and then. 👏👍 kind of nostalgic for me because I remember where I was in life when the first one came out and how things have changed in my life since the - although I never met him Tom and I are both high school graduates from New Jersey class of 1980! I actually learned a little bit about him from a friend of mine that was in a class in college with me that was on the wrestling team with Tom at Glen Ridge high school. My friend said he was a real fighter even if he got beat in a wrestling match he was ready to get up and go at it again! 💪

During what the US Navy calls The Great Mariana's Turkey Shoot in WWII, Alexander Vraciu shot down 6 enemy planes, flying in an F6F Hellcat with a bad supercharger. When he landed aboard the Lexington, he looked up at Admiral Mitscher and held up 6 fingers. The admiral was impressed. It was later discovered he had fired only 360 rounds of 50 caliber ammo; 60 rounds for each victory. Vraciu was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Ya, it was great, and no wokeness. Thank God. Oh, except for having a couple of black actors play more of a role. Oh, wait, ya, and a female pilot, too. Damn it, hold on. There was a latino in there as well. Jeez, kind of weird how having a greater mix of people to more accurately represent the Navy still resulted in a great film. Hmm...

"Please don't tell me we lost an engine" "Alright, I won't tell you that" EPIC!!!
To leave the F-14 alive with Rooster provides the emotional fulfillment we never had when Goose was killed. The Goose character was played so well by Anthony Edwards that his death was so jarring. The triumph of his son and thus the redemption for Maverick was magnified a thousand times. Love this movie!

Yeah when Rooster said, "It's what my Dad would have done" I cried so hard.
When Rooster taps his knuckles on Gooses photo, it was another shot in the feels...this movie is so emotionally beautiful...if you're not crying, you arent human or you just don't understand what it means to the characters in the film. Such a good job, great story...well done.

Good to see a Great movie made again. It will always be a classic. Well done Tom Cruise and cast.
1991 we lost 27 brothers. One was my buddy with a child he never met. That child is now a LT in the Navy following his dad.
Maverick finally brought Goose home. 😢 Powerful stuff.
I saw this movie on Memorial Day, and I actually led the audience in a round of applause when it ended. The original was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and this is most definitely a worthy sequel and did not disappoint in the slightest.

It's extremely rare that a follow-up movie is even better than the original, but they definitely pulled it off this time!
God the music....Best sequel ever...
Huge fan of the 1st Top Gun. Just the opening scene of this brought me back to my childhood days. My kids have no idea how awesome both the original and sequel really are. They just watched an old ass movie their dad watched as a kid and a then new movie.

Not just a homerun !!! Knocked it out of the park !!!
I watch the original Top Gun then followed up with Maverick on a cold rainy afternoon. Incredibly seamless 30 yrs later. Nothing missed a beat. Superior filmmaking.
This may be the best film I’ve ever watched
You have to be buried deep in both top guns to understand the Goosebumps, no pun intended that this moment gives you. Rooster is like a Son to mav. Going right back to where he is sat on the piano in top gun one singing. Plus all the other time they must of spent together that you don't see. Mav still feeling guilt from gooses death. It's defginatly a moment. It's amazing how Miles Teller looks like Anthony Edwards. The minute he walked in the Bar with his Hawaiian shirt on just like his old man and his mannerisms you would swear it was goose.
Best guy movie of all time. Had me on an emotional roller coaster from the opening scene.
I'm pissed that it took sooooooooooooooo long for the second movie but dammit this is my #1 I think I know the entire movie saw it in the theater bought and downloaded so I can watch it in the waiting room. Thank you Tom.
It would have been awesome for Maverick to say, " Time to buzz the tower Rooster"!!
The music in the entire movie was terrific!!!

My personal ,choke up scene, was when Maverick went to see Iceman, that one really got me. Great movie, excellent sequel.
Just watched this mow crying again. Love Tom Cruise ❤😢
Love it too. One of the best endings in a movie. Even after this scene, with the music playing. Rooster looking at the pictures of his father and Maverick and he double taps on the picture at the end. Beautiful! I have seen the movie five times. Get teary eyed every time.
its the fact that one hero makes one last landing.... The Tomcat
Proud to say I served on CVA-59 for two years and another two NAVCOMMSTA. I'm getting old. BTW..we were one of the first carriers to launch the F-14 Tomcat. I'd do it all over again.
one of the best movies of all time.
It gave me "THE GOOSE". Good movie being a sequel.
Me too .. the scene when Rooster said It s what my Dad would have done, Mav's face seems that he relieves from the burden of guilt toward Goose & his family ..
It's cool that Maverick starts his career in an F14 and finishes it in one

Who doesn't feel that, after a movie this amazing?!
Best sequel I've ever seen. It was done correctly!
The one who doesn't feel this scene is pure heartless....
I FINALLY got to see this film last night, on a HUGE flat screen. I noticed that there were scenes that no one had uploaded to KZread, so there WERE parts that I had not seen yet. I hope Maverick takes her daughter’s words to heart when she sees him fall from the upstairs window! I also hope the scene where he wore his Dress Whites to her night club and then their embrace on the beach takes Maverick and Penny to marriage.
Cruise should have, at the very least, gotten an Oscar nomination for best actor for that role! The emotion he was able to pull out of the viewer is amazing! Each time I watch this movie I get misty eyes!
When Maverick looked up at the admiral, I thought of that story.
The guy playing Rooster even looks a lot like Goose.
Great movie, i agree. It was fantastic to see Maverick and Rooster together at the end.
