This sequel "blows azz," too. Aside from some lovely shots (when they're not wholly cgi) the plot is weak (they re-wrote Star Wars), there is no characterisation of the rival force (it's obvious they wanted, but didn't have the balls to say Iran), mission & aviation even less accurate than the original (saying a LOT) and somehow Maverick's story apparently hasn't developed at all in 30 years (his invented billet fails to explain how his rank is feasible at this stage); well, unless you count his obvious death at mach10 in the first 5mins of the film. Also, less writing/more filming: they get basic physics confused, don't even bother to understand radar or keep track of which missiles are IR vs. radar lock, all the staff are incompetent for zero reason (except Swiss-army Hondo, who "does it all") and (possibly linked) every manoeuvre is undertaken at stupidly unsafe separation distance... to name just a few glaring issues. One...hella of a movie...Tom Cruise nailed it.
I had extremely low expectations going to see this movie, believing that topping the original was as likely as me ever hitting mach 10 in a Tomcat, but DAMN, I never been so happy to be so wrong. All aces, start to finish. Still. I had imagined Maverick walking into a bar with 'Danger Zone' playing on the jukebox, and he slightly notices, and mutters to himself, "Haven't heard that one in a while"
@Yukikazehalo

It was a much more subtle movie than that, in fact when he walked into the bar and saw Penny they were playing a David Bowie song, whom Jennifer Connolly starred alongside in the Labyrinth in the same year the first Top Gun came out.

The look on Cyclone at the start. He wanted him to pull it off.
Props to the CG department. The Mach 10 aircraft flight was legit..!

I’ve seen many sequels and most blow azz… this sequel was actually amazing, well written, cinematography, acting ,story was all great and nostalgic….
@TheR4gnos
Жыл бұрын
It is only watchable on account of the photography.

There were some cold punch lines throughout. I love Ed Harris “Stick Jockey” comment while Mav is cookin at Mach 10.2😂
The effect of Mav saying "Popping in 3-2-1" and the audio coming from the command station, radio and local on each number was neat. I think they did this in Dunkirk also.
Chills.. right up my spine every time I see that. I would do whatever it takes to have a ride in a fighter jet doing this
Maverick: "Where am I??" Kid: "Umm... Earth!!" Best line in the film.
With all the crap Hollywood pushes out, I’m so glad this great film was made and that some people still know how to do it right.
3:30 I love how this scene does a great of job of showing the quote "I feel the need, the need for speed" without simply reusing it from the first movie.
Huge come back to Top Gun. Absolutely awesome 👍🏼🍻
I know this focuses on the pilot/s but the fact those aircrafts can handle those Gs and even reach that kind of speeds are truly engineering marvels.
that mach 10 scene was fking spiritual. the way he flew so fast he actually crossed from day to night to day again, and the arc his plane describes can be seen against the face of the earth itself.
This is the best scene. It's perfectly done and even how we are feeling what the other pilots feel. And it's amazing how the the whole movie the Admiral is totally baffled as to why Maverick is even around. And this scene, he understands.
One of the greatest scenes tom cruise ever made
Maverick is like, "fine, i'll do it myself".. lol
no words to explain this bro. it's a feeling an emotion.
I think people miss how amazing this scene is. 1) He did this faster than the time set for the actual mission 2) He did it by himself, without the help of a co-pilot 3) He did it at an age much older than the younger pilots who were in their prime 4) This is a movie and none of this matters, they could have made him do it in one minute because it's not based on a true story

I like how they had a young Maverick in this movie (Hangman) making Cruise see the younger version of himself. Also I like the fact that even thought the Top Gun movies are exaggerated on the real deal, they did in fact add a character who closely resembles the real pilots we have today (Bob) to me I enjoyed seeing these different elements in the movie haha. :)
