@@brucebassitt9835 I moved it down before I bought my Model S, as we were looking at replacing an X7 and wanted to see how the trunk space compared (the Model X is, of course, way bigger inside with much more storage). That position was better for placing carry-ons right-side up, and also for larger strollers, without removing the cover. I've also never seen one down other than the time I did that.

I just test drove both models this past week and loved both for different reasons. But if I had to choose one, I will go with the model X I feel like I’d rather have a little too much room than not enough room and that’s not saying that the model Y doesn’t have enough room because it’s plenty for what I need. We are just a family of three and our daughter is almost 12, so we don’t have strollers and all the baby gear to deal with anymore, so a model Y would be perfect for my needs, but I am holding out to get a model X! I test drove the Model X with the round steering wheel and it DID NOT cut off your view of the smaller screen in front of the steering wheel at all. You can see everything just fine, just like your normal ICE vehicle.

We currently have model y and model 3. We have loved both. No complaints whatsoever. Now that we are expecting a 3rd child. We need more space. We have 3rd row in our Y but it's not as spacious as Model X. I like that you showed the two captain seats in 2nd row in model X. With that option, I think my child who will go to 3rd row it'll be much easier. We are still keeping Y but getting rid of 3 and go for X. Your review has helped me a lot to make decision.

Good comparison video. I had an X on order because it was such a good deal. But I ended up with a new MYP. The X was just too much vehicle for my needs and a little too big. $25K in my pocket was more important than falcon wing doors and self presentation doors that don’t work properly. 90% of the time I’m in this vehicle alone, so the MYP is great for me and IMO it’s a better looking vehicle. Also a little more fun to drive down here in Arkansas. (That’s right…a few of us here in the south actually want EV’s instead of a pickup truck😂) However, if this was my main family vehicle I would have gone with the X. Robert didn’t mention it, but what I thought was the biggest concession was giving up the longer range and the better charging curve. The MX would be a tremendous road tripping car. Because I won’t do a ton of longer trips with this vehicle I could give that up for the savings. Both great, just depends on your application. I’m thrilled with my choice and keeping some cash, but totally get why there are going to be a bunch of happy new MX owners too. It’s nice to have 2 great options from Tesla.

@@TSERJI not between the X Plaid and MYP, but there is close to 50 mile range difference between the standard MX and MYP. The MX also has a better charging curve staying at a higher rate of charging deeper into the session before it starts tapering off and your highway efficiency isn’t that far off of a MYP. It also has a 20 kw bigger battery pack. If you’re going to do road trips the MX is the way to go.

The frunk shelf usually sits a few inches higher so it perfectly lines up with the back seats and covers the cables for the heated seating. I think you can even see the lip where it’s supposed to go at 12:04 -- maybe give it a try?

Came out of an X5 (2020) 3 litre diesel . for a MYP. Road tripping in Europe is a dream as charging is not an issue. Much More interior space, much faster and much cheaper to run than the X5. MYP is much easier to park. X5 is more comfortable suspension wise, but the handling on a MYP is insane. I would Absolutely love the Model X, but the falcon wing doors don’t permit a roof box which is absolutely a deal killer for which I’m sad.

Rob, did you realize that you had the trunk cover on the lower area? You can even see it in the video that you can make the trunk Flat. I have a model X, and it's much better than my Model Y.

Robert, when you were showing the storage in the console of the model X you missed the fact that both the tray and the cup holder sections are also movable exposing even more storage below.

I have both the Model X and the Model Y. My Model X Plaid is the best minivan I have ever owned. The best long-distance road tripper. My Model Y Performance is a great in-town beater gobbling up in-town miles. Both have FSD.

Just came to a 2023 model X LR from a 2020 Model Y Performance. I loved my Y, however, the X is more car in every way. It rides a lot better, it's faster(a lot faster on the highway), it's more confident and commanding while driving, and I think it looks better. I was able to transfer FSD from my Model Y, and I got the base X in red with steering wheel, so I qualified for the $7,500 tax credit, although barely.

How is the X LR faster than the Y Performance? Y has faster 0-60, is the X faster on the higher end?

@@tnygp from what I've read the way they tested 0 to 60 times for each car was slightly different and the X is actually 3.5 to 60. Past 60 miles an hour the X pulls much stronger than the Y performance. It's a freight train on the highway. It just keeps gathering momentum and doesn't lose steam it doesn't seem no matter how fast you go.

If you carry a canoe, kayak, anything else large or anything at all on the roof, the Model X is out and that's odd for an SUV. The Model Y works well with a roof rack (but ONLY buy the genuine Tesla rack as ALL the 3rd party racks have problems) and has a useful 36" spacing between bars compared to the Model 3's 28" spacing (important when carrying boats or other long loads). This is information that's difficult to find but is of utmost important to those in the paddling community.

@11:40 Looks like you can raise the "cargo lid" up to the left and right "shelf corners" to make it level (or more level) with the seats...no?

you're correct. the trunk cargo lid does raise on the corners to be more level with the folded down 3rd row

I checked insurance rates. A Model X is around $400 more for the 6-month premium than our Model YP. I just don’t feel that a nearly $30k price premium is worth it. It also felt more minivan like when behind the wheel than our YP.

Basically, if you want a tesla SUV, a Model Y nicely loaded should do it. but if you can spend almost double the price, you can upgrade to the Model X and have more luxury and gizmos. Same goes for the Model 3 and Model S. but now with the refresh Model 3 and soon with the refresh Model Y, if prices remain about the same (and even if they go up a bit), I think the clear winners are the Model 3 and Model Y. The S and X are more of a "luxury" option for the same vehicles. of course, if you have the money, by all means, cannot beat a Model S going 0 to 60 in 2 seconds (the Plaid version of course) or the Model X in 2.4 seconds (Plaid also). But if you don't go for the Plaid, I think it is not worth it at all, so just stay with the 3 and Y.

Im with you. Im upgrading from a 3 to an X. I previously had a Y.. and I really liked it more than the 3 (which don't get me wrong is still great).. but I'm going for the X because I really want all the stuff you described. :)

It looks like you can move that trunk floor up. It looks like there is a edge you can sit the floor on to make it level.

Where did you get your floor mats and trunk mat? Best pet mat?

Great video. Test drove a Model X when my Model Y was being repaired and the falcon wing doors opened automatically into someone else's car where the Model Y doors would not have due to the manual controls. Is there a fix for that? Yes it was a tight parking garage but I don't want to limit where I can park / watching the doors open every time to ensure something like that doesn't happen.

Recently picked up the MXP, my wife has a 3. I think all the thoughts here are spot on, and without the Plaid (which I love but rarely dig into) I'd be hard-pressed to justify the X over the Y

I've had a 3 and now have a Y and really wish I had an X. Unfortunately, money restricts it for me.

With m3 highland not out in USA yet is it safe to assume that m y juniper won’t be coming anytime soon?

We own a 2022 MYP and have been thinking about trading UP to a Tax Credit Edition X for $72,500. But am holding off pending any updates. And know the ZERO to SIXTY times are closer to each other because the MYP is scored with the 1-foot roll-out and the X is NOT. So the 3.5 in the Y is closer to 3.7 vs 3.8 for the X.

The uniqueness of the falcon wing doors is by itself is the tipping point. Like a Lamborghini or a McLaren which cost many times more. Model X is one for the ages.

Looks wise the X kills it. The square look of the X has aged well whereas the egg shaped Y looks very outdated sitting next to the X.

I feel like the five seat model X is a little more versatile, because the second row folds flat. I know that is not an option in the plaid. I originally wanted the six seat configuration, long range, not plaid. But I think the five seat will give more flexibility if I need to put the second row seats down to haul something large.

I hit my head on the roof in the back of thr X but not the Y becsuse of how the padding for the wing doors works. Also the lack of roof racks breaks the X for me. (Thanks to the doors).

No way I am taking advice from some one that wears a ring on their middle finger 😂

We are getting the Model X because my mother is wheelchair bound and the Falcon doors make is so much easier to get her into the car since I use a lift to get her in. I don't have to worry about hitting her head or bottom while putting her in.

Just food for thought, when you test these cars and especially if you value your family comfort. Don't just test drive this but test this by seating on passenger seats. Try hard turn and bumps. I own tesla x and was tesla fanboy until I got yelling from my parents. They almost broke their back after 2 hrs of x ride even with air suspension. I tried tesla Y and to me that car ride quaility is a junk! Kia or hyundai will feel like rolls royce compared to model y or even model X. so yea that 's my very honest opinion. I still support Tesla since I own many of their stocks :D but definitely not for my family ride.

You have the trunk floor on the X set at the lower setting, you just need to move it up and the back floor is completely level

BRO on the X the board in the back for the sub trunk fits a notch up and makes the back flat 😅 its adjustable for different cargo heights 😅

Myth: Model X trunk not flat. Fact: the trunk bottom doubles as a hatch for the hidden storage, it can be removed, tilted up, put in halfway (as pictured in video) or moved up to the top position and then the trunk is flat.

the X honestly feels like its double the price, completely different class of car. people saying they'd rather a Y because they hate the doors are kidding themselves. its like saying you'd take a Boxster over a 911

I was wondering the other day if it was worth it since I forgot how the 3 felt. then I drove my brothers MYP today and knew I 100% made the right choice completely different class of car. I dont want to shit on Y owners, but it felt terrible being in a Y after living with an X any Tesla is incredible though aside from build quality if you're not used to them

Model x the Suv you can't put roof racks on .

Should then discuss Passat and Macan…. or maybe not

Get Model X Long Range in 5-seat Config and you have tons of flat floor room - no issues. Plaid is not really a Family Car as well as LR.

The back storage isn't a true representation of the space. You're not comparing apples to apples, you should be comparing 5 seat Model Y with a 5 seat Model X. The 6 seat configuration is a terrible design by Tesla.

Model Y is a perfect base EV. But it ain’t luxury.

Nah, I had a 2006 Highlander hybrid, a 2009 Prius, and a 2012 Prius. They were all fine for their time, my 2 Prius got rear ended and totaled by teenagers on cell phones. Highlander still running and aging, but keep flashing the engine light for no reason (even Toyota service center had no clue why). I got Model S in 2022, and just picked up 2023 Model Y (as a lease while waiting for future Juniper release). My family is very happy with both Teslas. We will not buy anymore ice cars from now on.

It does level ... That floor shelf can be moved up to the upper grooves to level off. It's in the "low" position, which allows above-floor cargo to be taller and fit better. Think "Multiple carry-on beyond 3rd row" mode.

Henson shavers are no different than any other safety razor. But, an electric razor is way better because it will never nick your skin and it has way less waste, uses less water and doesn't need face soap. The Model X doors used to open up all the way, not sure why they changed them to just pop open. But it seems like such a waste to have the display powered as it's just more things that can go fail. A manual adjustment would have been perfect and cost less. Just like power seats which I hate because it's easier and faster to manually adjust my seats. Sorry but you said a huge lie. You said getting the round steering wheel totally cuts off being able to see the driver screen. This is completely not true!

Sorry that happened to you. I bought mine (Model S Plaid) used for $113k last year and I feel you. I get by remembering that, heck, it's still a great vehicle. I'm just going to drive it a littel longer than I usually do other cars. And Elon has made that easier since they keep it "fresh" with software updates that revive the "new". I plan to move to an M5 touring, a dream for me, when it comes. Other than that, I cannot justify taking the loss and driving anything else as everything else is slower, less efficient, and less space.

S and X never had the quality of a $100K and not worth that price tag. I loved them when I test drove them, but always said “when these are $70-85K they’d be priced right”. Feel bad for those that overpaid, but they finally priced right.

@@Tonar18 Don't feel too bad for us: Air Suspension, great technology, efficient, faster than everything else on the road, and extremely safe. They are 100% $80-$100K cars. They'll save you $10-$15k over the comparable $80k-$100k. Trust me: I can drive whatever I want, and I cannot figure out what to replace the Plaid with. M5 would cost me $800 more per month in fuel for the 3k miles/ month I run between businesses every other week. S class isn't as fast. I like running away from Hiyabusas during my morning kid-shuttle. They also don't have a hatchback for my Slinger Bag, don't have a frunk for tonight's dinner pick-up that I don't want to smell for the 15 minute ride home. Or for the muddy clothes from the mud-run... They are do-all vehicles with soft touch materials, high tech, speed, and safety. Well, at least for someone like me who actually uses it as a car. What I want: better ambient lighting (our 2013 GL550 was better...2013). Power folding rear seat in X, ability to move passenger seat from front center screen (coming I'm sure), massaging seats, oh: SOFT CLOSE DOORS ON S. They got rid of them. Almost rejected the car for that. I get mad when I park next to a 6 year old S class, but then remember how great the Tesla is on road trips. Rant rant rant. LOL.

A great idea ... As long as you don't use your 3 row SUV for road trips. Who does that, right? 🙃😀 I have about 3 more hours to order mine, and I think we're going to pass, as I drive my Model S too many road trips and haven't had a chance to check the chargers in my normal route on a Rivian. They work horribly with the Tesla, as none of my tricks to "Pre-condition" the battery have worked. It always charges lower than the charger's capability, whether I'm low on battery, whether it's hot or cold, whether I use Plaid mode, Chill, track mode, drive aggressively, etc. I need to test them on a non-Tesla. I definitely think the R1S is an amazing choice, though. My wife HATED (and still does) the Falcon doors on the X.
