Once UPON a Word: When to use UPON vs ON.
When should you use UPON in English. It seems archaic but it's still used in modern English. Sometimes you can use ON instead but other times UPON is the only word you can use.

I’m taken aback by this class. Never before had I met “verbs with upon” except “dwell upon”.

No you know.
I've also heard a lot (or rather read in texts) "to bestow smth upon sb". I hereby bestow upon you the gold medal of grammar Long live the grammar
You made me realize just how often i use "upon" without having previously realized it! Excellent video
Dear teacher, firstly I would like to thank you for this precious course. I hope you may clarify, as well, the difference between : - with and within - under and underneath Much respect 🌺

Please watch our video on prepositions for the answer.
Even though I can have advanced conversations, I've always struggled to get this right. And it's usually mentioned in preposition videos but it really needs a lesson on its own. so this has been super helpful!
Highly appreciate it. I stumbled upon this KZread. It's great. I will look upon it as my teacher and depend upon my English upon this channel.
I love the word "upon", and whenever possible, I use it. It just adds that much poetry and charm to a sentence by itself. "Why not to meet upon the River Thames? Upon the Cristmas time, whilst all the rest ABOVE the ice is frozen, and we the two would be melting down the summer's love.... " smth like that; hmm....
Hi Gideon, thanks again for this lesson, you always make it easier with high level examples! I feel I can easily absorb the grammar lesson after listening to examples upon examples from my favorite teacher 🤩
No, it was not a grammar lesson at all, it was poetry in its purest form, I take off my hat, sir!
Thanks a lot for your lessons! They are always a treat.
It's a very good lesson! Actually, the biggest problem in learning english is usage of those "little" words and finding some rules that reign them.
The best English teacher all over the Internet. Thank you.
Great vid and super interesting! Thank youuuu, you are really helping me learning English and now more than ever I need it to be improved for my university studies! :)
You are an exciting actor. I enjoy watching and listening to you.
Truly informative for me, thank you! I was wondering if you could touch upon "on vs onto" some day. That'd be great! Thanks again.
Thank you lovely teacher for your kind efforts and charming presentation!Wish you a pleasant weekend! 😍❤️
Always wondered how upon is used in phrases, thank a lot!
Thank you for this fancy and useful video. And the very end is brilliant. You've made my day, Sir!!!
Hi an excellent video! Really incredible, I wondered, what is the usage of upon! you are helping bringing my English to next level! Thanks a lot!
This class taugh me something that I never seen. Thanks a lot
Hearing the word UPON, I was as if, got immersed in a Shakespearean drama. Thank you Mr. Gideon.

Dear Sir, I have been a long time confused between upon and on, and thank you so much for this clip. I do appreciate if you explain the difference between ONTO and ON, plus INTO and In, thank you so much in advance.
Gideon, thank you for this good content, I'm learning english and your lessons help me a lot. I'm 16 and I love read classical literature in my mother tongue, for your suggestion i bought the book "The catcher in the rye" and I'm have so much problems to understand the phrasal verbs and it's very difficult to find a explanation about the idioms of this decade. Can you help me about how i can understand de phrasal verbs? The most of time I know the verb but I don't understand the prepositions after the verb and the whole meaning, such as: off, in, out, on, etc.
Could you make a video about words such as "hereafter ,hereto...etc and other words in legalese? Thank you in advance
These lessons are so satisfying.
A new subscriber bro! So good your explanation :)
Respected sir, nothing is impossible to you; with genius like yours, the sky is the limit. So, please let me know the difference between the phrasal verbs between "tell on"and "tell upon". For example, over -exercise -------(tell on/tell upon) our health.
I couldn't recognize the word below "grammarian" upon your black T-shirt! Thanks a bunch for the lesson! 🌹 👍 😊.
Great lesson, Gideon!
Thank you so much ,sir !

Is it grammatically correct to use the phrase 'Once Upon A Joke' :-) when we are set to discuss Jokes and funny stories from our life? Has this phrase the right to live? Thank you again!
Could you explain a little bit about the pronunciation of "entering" upon your sample at @6:51, please?

Hi sir. Thank you so much for your great lesson! Can we use UPON for a movement while touching the surface? Like, ON is used touching the surface, but no movement. Your help will be highly appreciated in this regard. Thanks!

I exactly feel the same. I think u r right.
I teach ESL to students and English is also my second language. One student wrote : "Once upon a girl" used the same way as once upon a time. I have told her that it wasn't correct, but I can't find that grammar rule surrounding the word "upon". Does anyone know if I am wrong?
Спасибо !!!!!!
I turned the tele upon and you were on it! **going to hell, I am**
The only "upon" that comes to mind is the "infringe upon someone's rights" which is different from "to infringe the anti-rudeness laws". Lawyers use "upon" a hell of a lot .
I remember back in 2006 a British lad saying: "do you want to exact your revenge down upon that silly girl?" Is that common in modern British English?

Live long, Sir. Needless to say how informative Your lessons are. But now I would like to say something irrelevant here. I feel one can take an example from You of how to be a gentleman. I try to be one when treating a woman in particular. I'm sure, any clever woman who knows the value of such a man would be happy to share a life path with him. So, please keep on making Your charismatic lessons.
