I was cheering. After reading Helter Skelter, I wondered what would have happened if someone had really fought back at the right time, before Tex and the girls got the upper hand. Voytek Frykowski was said to have been a brawler back in Poland, and Jay had a few lessons with Bruce Lee. Everyone was somewhat sedated (drugs) and naturally sleepy and shocked on top of that, and the Family (except Linda) had already emptied their souls of pity. Brad’s character was a guy who literally “died” for a living, and was more prepared than a troop of Eagle Scouts, even while seeing sounds and hearing colors. And Leo’s was already pissed off, mad as hell, and wasn’t taking it anymore, including a screaming, bloody-face chick who destroyed his window, splashed around in his pool, and fired a gun wildly. 👍👍👍👍

corvus13 Rick paid Cliff to be his goffer (someone who carries out various tasks for someone and gets whatever they need done) and he was probably also one of the few people who would actually still work with him after he supposedly killed his wife. It’s shown several times during the film that he has the animosity and hatred among various workers in the entertainment industry for what he did. They don’t particularly trust him. So I believe Cliff appreciates that. I sorta think of their friendship as the same way the tv show “Entourage” portrayed it. He works for Rick but is also his best friend too.

Can we truly appreciate how the entire movie builds up for two hours of basically B role of Hollywood in the late 60’s to a excruciatingly violent ending that is actually satisfying and absolutely bad ass. It’ll go down as an amazing movie scene of this decade. It is just too incredible and calculated.

Terry Melcher, son of Doris Day, who Manson thought would record him, lived at the actual 10050 Cielo Drive address with his girlfriend, Candace Bergen, before Roman and Sharon moved in. After dining at El Coyote, Sharon, Jay, Voytek, and Abigail, returned to Cielo Drive where Abigail played the piano from the sheet music for "Straight Shooter," recorded by the Mamas and the Papas' Cass Elliot, Sharon's friend, which was still on the piano at the time of the murders. The actual car driven by Linda Kasabian to the Cielo address from Spahn Ranch on the night of the murders was found but not used, because QT and another producer found it "too creepy." Steve McQueen and his girlfriend were invited up to Cielo that night, but the girlfriend wanted to stay in and so they didn't go to visit Sharon. Kasabian drove that night because she was the only one with a driver's license. Earlier in 1969, Manson went to the Cielo address looking for Melcher, but was unwelcome and re-directed off of the property by the owner, Rudi Altobelli, and his assistant, Hatami, but Sharon and Manson had seen each other, and Charlie knew that Melcher no longer lived there. Altobelli had already moved out of the guest house, replaced by caretaker William Garretson, at the time of the murders. The first to die, Steven Parent, stopped by to visit him trying to sell a clock radio, which had been set to 12:15 am, with the murders commencing just minutes later after Tex climbed the telephone pole and cut the phone lines, then they pushed the car down to the bottom of the hill and climbed back up the private road almost directly opposite Bella Drive, scaled the fence fearing the gate might be electrified, then while hiding in the shadows, saw Parent driving the Rambler towards the gate, starting Helter Skelter by shooting Parent four times with a .22 Longhorn Buntline revolver. The rest is history. Sadly, Navy vet Jay wasn't carrying a 1911, which would've overmatched a puny .22 revolver and 3 buck knives carried by Tex, Sadie, and Katie.

She might've been as Tarantino did years of research although it is a very generic hippy name. Tarantino may have given her that name so that we didn't really know who Hawke was playing until the movie came out.

That scene was intense and a bit over the top. It's unbelievable how so many people are so desensitized to extreme graphic violence/gore and on top of that they think it's hilarious. I think it was more shocking and confusing to me to see that a lot of people found that scene so funny, I just don't understand that reaction. I think it was a smart move from Tarantino to put that scene at the end, so you can't walk away because that's the climax and also a brilliant alternative ending to the original story. Original, unexpected and shocking so it was a 10/10. But seriously what's wrong with people.

I think people laugh during the ending because it is SO extremely violent and those Manson family members were SO evil, that the only reaction is to laugh because you are so shocked but also enjoying the bad guys get justice handed to them.

@Sly Cooze. It's all a matter of perspective. But people laughing at theatrical violence has more to do with them than the characters they're laughing at.

I just saw it tonight, and it is an absolute, irreverent, vulgar, beautiful masterpiece about the hazy innocence of 1969, the year zero of the cynical era currently being played out. Manson certainly outlived the optimism of RFK, MLK and Woodstock.

When the first trailer came out months ago, I had this theory for the movie: I believe this was an origin story for Mia Wallace. At the end of the film, Sharon Tate survives. She was 8 1/2 months pregnant. I say she had a girl. She names the kid after the star of her husband's film "Rosemary's Baby" -- Mia Farrow. She grows up to marry Marsellus Wallace. She follows in the family footsteps, and goes into show business. Her career isn't as good as her parents', but she did land a sweet pilot, even though the pilot wasn't picked up. She probably didn't tell Vincent who her mom was -- she didn't want to ride on her parents' coattails, so she wanted to be her own star. Like Jay, she has dark black hair. Like Sharon, she has piercing blue eyes. The age Uma was when they filmed "Pulp Fiction" is roughly the age this child would have been, had the baby lived. Is this theory super crazy, or did it make a lot of sense?

  • @AnnMargretFan

One mistake I did discover when I saw the film on Friday AM.... when Sharon (Margot) enters the theatre, the Ann-Margret movie "CC & Company" is playing on the screen. As Sharon sits down, you see & hear Ann-Margret on the screen with Joe Namath. The premiere date for "CC & Company" was October 14, 1970, in New York City. The actual filming of "CC & Company" didn't even begin until April 13, 1970. However, the time period in "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" is from February, 1969, through August 9, 1969... the dates are even stated on the screen. As this was more than a year before the film was actually released to the public, it would not have been available to audiences during the time period of the Tarantino film. I know... being picky. I'm an Ann-Margret junkie and the error really stood out for me. I'm sure Quentin would not be happy with the company his team hired to ensure all the video clips were from 1969!

...yep it was a big stand out for me as well...even though the sound track is fantastic, there are a few musical nuggets that were post 69 as well? far to much artistic creative license in this mans world on many levels.... but maybe that's all we enjoy the collogues of his visual creations. he has yet to put a full and complete film story together and wrap it in a bow? full out celluloid escapism , is always on the menu when viewing this style genera.
