Omniscan Points Quantity

Ғылым және технология

If your files are suspiciously (and maybe TOO conveniently) small, make sure the points quantity is set high enough. Or else!!

Well done as always. Those who want to really bake their nerd noodles can look up Nyquist frequency and aliasing for the gory mathematics. We have had folks ask about B-Scan and C-Scan image resolution, and the effects of over / under sampling (spatially - versus A-Scan points) on detection and sizing. So.... you know - when you have nothing else to do..... Godspeed meanwhile.

Can you make a video on one-sided scanning? In my company I am mostly able to access welds from one side only and I need to use some tricks like simulating sound paths in BeamTool or using the oldschool method of putting my finger on the spot I think the geometry indication comes from to make the signal go up and down to make sure it is actually just geometry and not a flaw. Thank you btw, great content)

Hi Paul! How to calculate the minimum quantity points?

Hi great video, can you make a video about conventional UT scanning? For a beginner that thinks everything on the screen is an indication and tries plotting the indication on a plotting card and realizes its profile or root, but.. still frustratingly does the same thing along the surface of scan

Yes I've been meaning to dial back the phased array stuff and get into more conventional. UT is so vast though, and I try to keep my videos to 5 minutes. Anything in particular?

Probably tips on scanning dB, like how much is too much. Then about selecting probes. But for me personally, how to confidently identify relevant indications in a weld. If possible, could you include nozzle and node inspection?

Hi, have you ever done ISO 18563-3 validations with Omnisan or any other PAUT equipment?

Only resolution for soundpath in mm matters considering defect size and separation. Nobody cares about qty of points.

Fortunately, this option is not available in Sonatest instruments. As I found out when testing the latest version X3 (5.15), the instrument has a set number of points and strongly limits the ability to reduce the range. If you need a small range (for composites inspection) and the menu is set to too many points, the instrument will not allow it. The logic is built so that the number of points takes priority, followed by compression and then range. Sonatest displays the number of points and the resolution (number of points per mm or inch). It is then possible to select the compression so that the number of points matches some requirement. It also shows the approximate file size.
