OMG - Pure INSANITY! Most INTENSE Spec Miata Race ever! 2023 Sebring Hoosier Super Tour Race 2

What a stressful intense race in a field deep with talent - more than 17 national championship titles in this field, lots of pro drivers, and MANY new young talented kids direct from karting hoping to secure pro drives.
After a shortened qualifying and getting taken out in Race 1, I had a terrible starting position of 25th, in the middle of the KILL ZONE. Was not sure how to proceed? Drive to Survive, or put my head down and just go for it. Once I got through T5 I was all business and I drove my way from 25th to 5th, then got punted off back to 13th, and then drove my way back to finish 4th on track.
However there were drivers deemed to have jumped the start and they got penalized with 5 positions, and I ended up with 2nd place overall, a bonus I never expected, and most definitely did not want to get after the race. But I will take it!
On the motor racing front I compete in SCCA and NASA events around the USA. I race both Spec Miata (SM) and Super Touring Lite (STL) cars. My cars are prepared by OPM Autosports in Atlanta, my SM is powered by Rossini Racing Engines, my STL is powered by Nelson Racing Engines, and both cars are stopped courtesy G-Loc Brake Pads, with contingency support from Hoosier Racing Tire, Toyo Tires and Mazda Motorsports.
On the motorcycle front, I race Hare Scrambles and Dessert Off-Road Races, and do a bunch of long, multi-day trips on adventure bikes around the world.

I am going to refer to you as Danny APEX from here on out - what a drive. I will also insure my driver watches this video 100 times. I know dropping a wheel costs, but honestly , I had no idea HOW MUCH. Damn you are good, its no wonder my driver has the mad respect for you he does. What a great run.... If there is better racing anywhere, I don't know where that is.

Jerry - thank you for those very kind words, very much appreciated. Yes you are totally right, dropping a wheel, or missing an apex slight might seems like nothing, but it hurts, every time. And it is cumulative. In this class, where races are often won by thousandths of a second, every tenth, hundredth, or thousandth counts. Do the math. If you just lose 1/100th of a second at 2 turns each lap, and multiply that by 14 laps, that is almost 0.3 of a second, the difference between 1st and 5th at many of our races. Hitting your marks is EVERYTHING!

thanks @Miichael Neri. Yup Spec Miata offers some of the best and most intense racing you will ever find, and it does that at an affordable and sustainable price. I have been racing SM for 15 years, I am currently 65, can still hang with the kids, and I can see myself doing this for years to come.

Yup sorry about that, I suspect with the flags you checked up more than usual and I got caught off guard and rear ended you. The 2nd impact was courtesy Max who went into my rear bumper. Not my finest hour for sure, and sorry you were the victim here. Look forward to running with you again soon.

Thank you Christian, yes I was pretty happy with my drive, but as I am sure you noticed, I still made too many small errors. I was just fortunate that others around me were making bigger errors and giving me lots of opportunities to move forward.

thats why I love this class so much. To even hang with the front runners, you have to be ON THE LIMIT all the time and that means there are times we are just OVER THE LIMIT, and thats when it goes sideways! Fun TImes!

Hi Ruslan - welcome to SM. Since it is really difficult to run away and win in this class, we are always running together and often working together to move forward. We communicate with our hands a lot. Thumbs up can mean several things - normally good to see you behind me, lets work together. Or, great save. Or something similar but it is always generally meant to communicate this is good, lets keep it up.
