Love me some Pat Benatar. This is me in 1980. I didn’t get along with my stepmother. She told my dad either he goes or I go. I packed my backpack and my boombox. And I was out. And I never looked back. Riding the bus and eating at McDonalds after hours. They would toss the food out at night. It was a struggle at first. But I survived. Today I have an amazing job and I own my own house. Life is good. The Pat Benatar album that did it for me was Get Nervous. It had all the right answers to what I was going through in life.

So if you want to know, I believe back in the day it was called "taxi dancers". Girls got jobs where they were paid to dance with the guys who came in... So they didn't look happy, cuz creepy guys would be pawing them, cuz they didn't have their own girlfriends to dance with. The rented taxi dancers. (not unlike strippers or hookers, except obviously, dancing didn't cross that line..) When all the badass dancing babes got tired of working for their dance pimp, they made a stand and boogied right out of there haha!! Classic. And thanks- cuz yeah, we did have some pretty cool styles back then (in the 90s too!) Glad to see y'all can appreciate it😄

Seen her at least 3 times, so much energy and strong voice packed into this small fireball. The guitarist Neil Gerardo her partner and husband for about 40 years and cowriter on many of the songs. Still tours a must see.

The song that showcases her vocal range more than any other, and her husband's guitar skills, is Promises in the Dark. Incredible. The band I was in in the mid 80s was blessed to have a great female vocalist, and she could cover Benatar and Heart without changing key. Incredible talent, but I will tell you, Promises wore her out. We did Hell is for Children, the live version, which you should check out. Honestly, the live versions are the best. Guitars are heavier, more prominent, and her vocals are killer. She'd a tiny thing, about 5 foot tall, but the voice that come out of her is a giant. If you want another female vocalist that will blow your mind, Sass Jordan is the name you want. A good introduction there is Pissing Down, which was her first hit. She's as good live as in the studio. Total bad ass. Also, Try Crybaby for a soft ballad, that explodes with power into a rocker. I'd also say, for a killer tune with a hell of a groove, and a funny intro, do Ugly.

Pat is one of those voices you just can't ignore. She can rock out hard. She can belt with the big voice, but I also love her ballads. My favorite ballad from her is "We Belong". Her other big hits are "Hit me with your best shot", "Heartbreaker", and "Invincible" ( also known as the Billie Jean King anthem from the movie Billie Jean).

Early in her career, promoting her first album, I caught her in a small radio sponsored concert at University of Central Arkansas (Rodman's college). It was fm-93 so the tickets were $2.93...miss the good'ol days, when you heard it on radio and bought the vinyls. We are about the same age, she was Juilliard trained, I was on my first Harley. The possibilities were promising... She blew everyone away

Pat Benatar is a pint sized powerhouse. She takes her stage surname from her first husband Dennis Benatar. The lead guitarist for her back up band is her second husband Neil Geraldo. By all accounts they were love at first sight. Almost 40 years later theirs is one of the most enduring rock and roll marriages.

A few humble suggestions for Female Friday: Nina Simone-Feeling Good, Etta James-At Last, Aretha Franklin-I Never Loved a Man (actually anything from Aretha), Barbara Streisand-When the Sun Comes Out or Judy Garland-The Man That Got Away (either the Star Is Born version or the live version from the Judy Garland Show). Pat’s mother was a professional opera singer and Pat began following in her footsteps as a classically trained singer who was accepted to Juilliard. Like many women before her, she left to marry her high school sweetheart. That got old so she headed for the Big Apple where the rest is history. Please do Fire and Ice. It’s a great song that I think you’ll really love. ❤️
