Pat was more than just rock but she did rock. She was an opera singer. She has a range that is unbelievable. Have to get past the idea that bands are boxed into a category or style of music.

Another one from a different genre is Rob Halford from Judas Priest! He was also classically-trained. One thing that cannot be denied is that music from the early 90s and back were people that had fantastic voices and actually singing with no electronic help or Machinery to alter their voices. Pure music!

You're absolutely right! I read an articlei in an interview by her and she admitted that she thought because of her training it would be an easy transition to do rock and found that not be the case! She had to learn to belt it out like a rocker with a little grit instead of the smoothness of a classically trained voice.

The thing about music from the 70's - 80's is this; Never judge a group/singer by only one song of theirs. They will ALWAYS surprise you!! That was the great thing about music from that Era. Variety!! Pick a concert, any one from then and you'll hear it all! That's why I Love this era, still. Scorching guitar solos that will burn your eyebrows off to beautiful, soaring vocals that can bring tears to your eyes. It was the best music. Pure talent. No autotune. You will Always be surprised!! 😊💜🎶

If you're wanting an 80's female with a powerful voice, I recommend Sheena Easton. In particular, Strut, Almost Over You, Telefone, (the Bond song For Your Eyes Only, is ok, but not great IMO) and a fantastic duet w/Kenny Rogers "We've Got Tonight". Of course she performed with Prince on "U Got the Look" too but that doesn't showcase her voice well.

I think it was a very appropriate song for Pat Benatar, who had spent years playing rock... 'We belong' was a happy song that matched w/ her personal life in 1984. She and her guitarist/producer Neil 'Spyder' Giraldo got married around 1982, and she was pregnant in '84 with their first child when this video was filmed - a daughter. She and Neil are still happily married today (Pat Benatar just turned 69 years of age and still performs)

Pat rocks, but this was different and next level in my opinion. If I recall correctly (and it is over 35 years, so my memory may not be right) she was pregnant with her first child when this album was being recorded, and Pat felt the need for the album to reflect her emotions of the time. Interestingly this was sung in the final episode of Super Girl (which I finally got round to seeing last night) - and I thought to myself, I haven't listened to that in a while, and I'd like to see someone's reaction to it.... so I looked it up and well you had just recorded the reaction in the last 24 hours... so that's cool. As for voice... again this is through my fuzzied memory, but I think I heard that she was trained opera singer.

A friend of mine called this the best pre-wedding song. You know, like the night before when the nerves get to you and you start questioning every life decision that led you to that moment? If you get through this song and honestly, _honestly_ , with serious thought and reflection, picture yourself being like this -- not only right then but also decades in the future, after putting in teamwork and effort and determination not to let the negatives pull you down and break you apart -- then walking down that aisle just feels like the natural thing to do. I have no idea if it's true. I'm all for building _family_ but my feelings about _marriage_ are more complicated. 😅 But it seemed like a really nice thought.

Pat Benatar can sing a wide variety of music. Another great song of her that I love from her rocker side is All Fired Up. She also did an album of Blues songs called True Love. Another song that ends with a children's chorus is Fleetwood Mac's Say You Will (Stevie Nicks lead vocals).

Nice reaction. This song came out when all the record companies demanded ballads from the rock groups. Power ballad was all the rage at the time. Most of the rest of her songs are of the rocker variety. Pat is an amazing vocalist who can sing anything.

Pat Benatar is one of the greatest female singers who had a wide range of styles and was very versatile, all with one foot firmly planted in rock. Take a listen to The Motels “Only the Lonely” a fantastic female lead and revisit Carly Simon with “You Belong to Me.” These two are right up your alley, Amber.

This is HANDS DOWN my favorite song by Pat Benatar! Such a beautiful song and an amazing showcase of her vocal talent! Absolutely exquisite! My recommendation this time is another vocal powerhouse lady of the 80s. You've reacted to her before, but there's a particular song I want to see you react to; Bonnie Tyler's "Faster Than the Speed of Night" (specifically, the full 6 minute 46 second version). Such an amazing song, I am certain you guys will love it! (By the way, I still want to see your reactions to "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which you said was blocked; I really hope you can finally get that uploaded, even if you have to break it up into multiple parts to do so.)

This is a different type of song for her, but nonetheless as powerful with a style all her own. I'm with Amber on this one, the "Weeeeeee, belong...we belong together" is so Benatar - so epic and classic that few, if any, could pull off. It is my favorite Pat Benatar song - from the music to her voice...and then cue the Children's Choir. Great choice people! This woman was so popular in the 80s that her songs have been used in movies for quite some time...one of the first I remember is "Invincible" from "The Legend of Billie Jean." One of my guilty pleasures. I'm a sucker for female heroes. Please follow up with "Invincible"

Pat Benatar was great. When I listen to her, I always think of another female rocker from the era: Patty Smyth from Scandal. She had two hits in the 80s, "Warrior" and "Goodbye to You" and she did a duet with Don Henley in the 90s, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough." You should do one of her videos for a future Female Friday.

One of her many hits, "Promises in the Dark" shows off her impressive vocal range & the versatility of her band from soft ballad to hard driving rock. You'll really like the live performance. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaWJqLywesWfd6Q.html Her husband is the band's lead guitarist and they will celebrate their 40-year wedding anniversary this year. That's such a rarity in the music industry. :-)

Another female singer from this time that has a Pop Rock sound was Patty Smythe when she was with Scandal. "THe Warrior" is a great song by them. "Goodbye to You" is another. And a fun fact, Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" was originally going to go to Patty Smythe but she decided to take time off to have a child. Patty Smythe did come back with some solo stuff later on. One to listen to would be "Sometimes Love Just A'int Enough". She did this song with some vocals from Don Henley.
