Edward Leeford deserves to be happy. He was a true winner in this film.

Loved this version when it finally aired here in the states. Very powerful and entertaining series. Thanks ever so much for uploading and maintaining this Bloodywidow69! I had a Dickens of a time finding it, but my perseverance paid off finally by locating your channel. You're a gem.

This is the best adaptation ever, coupled with David Lean's and Carol Reed's.

This made me appreciate Mark Warrens acting ability more than I did previously... His facial expressions really reflected a torn and damaged personality.

The virtuous always win out in the end according to a Charles Dickens novel: A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, etc. Thanks bloodywidow69! This was a real treat! Enjoyed it like the Dickens! :)

Bloodywidow thank you so much for uploading this. I remember it being on tv here in the UK, in 1999, it was a massive 4 part drama and I even bought it on VHS because I’d convinced myself I was in love with Marc warren 😂 so many fresh new faces back then including Isla Fisher who went more or less unnoticed.

Hmm, I think this might be my favorite adaptation after all, even with the (in my opinion) somewhat mangled version of Dodger. Everyone else was brilliant. Of course, my heart remains especially loyal to Oliver and Edward. :D

i don't know why i am watching this on youtube i have it on dvd. i think it is my all time fav film. i have a thing for victorian era dramas. charles dickens is a genius and oliver twist is by far the greatest of all. he wrote it on his experiences in the workhouse and most of the characters were based on people he knew and met. what a masterpiece this version is.

@Ice Storrm: Do you mean Charlie Bates? In this version, he becomes a servant alongside Giles and Brittles in Mr. Brownlow's household. We can see this at Rose and Dr. Losberne's wedding where Giles is straightening Charlie's coat, whose outfit is the same as his.

I felt so sorry for Monks in this version. I know his mother didn't care much for him, but did his father care for him at all? So sad to grow up without love.

i'm so happy edward ended up having a normal life! i think that's my favorite adaptation, although i would prefer dodger to be a teenager as in the book and rose more sweet and friendly to oliver!

Awww i'm glad it all worked out for Oliver in the end :( No child should ever go through what he went through. Plus Sam Smith was such a cutie pie :D. I just wanted to give him a big hug :) :(. Best adaption of Oliver Twist i have ever seen; acting is amazing too.

Samuel Smith had a brief career before this, portraying Sophia Myles's brother instead of son. He ultimately summarized with a film where he was an Orthodox Jewish boy. Smith left media afterward, desiring to complete school. I don't know where the man is now, but Smith did reside in China so he could learn Chinese. Brown hair and facial hair became his look.
