'dis' play was just on near where I live, too, I went to see it with my family. My little sister was terrified right from the start and wouldn't look at all during the first scene because she heard Agnes screaming in labour.

How does Fagin's accent keep changing from Cockney to Israeli

The newer versions kind of amplify what the novel wrote in that Fagin was gradually losing his sanity as the story progressed, going completely over the edge by the time he was jailed.

He was also trying to disguise himself from the public (as he was a well-known thief in the area) by pretending to be a magician from Prague. At least thats what THIS version was trying to show.

He's not Israeli. Very few Jews lived in Israel at that time. I think his accent was supposed to be Eastern European, as he mentions being born in Prague.
