Great idea! Will the seeds germinate into sprouts? My chickens love Black Oil Sunflower seed sprouts. I use a pasta ladle from the Dollar Store to scoop out the vermin.

I don't know if the seeds will germinate. They normally get waterlogged and sink in about 3 days so I throw the bucket of water and seeds in the woods and start with a fresh batch.

Ummm really?

My off-grid cabin is unused for months at a time. Is there a liquid other than water that I can use, that will prevent or slow down decomposition of the dead critters?

I suggest used motor oil. In my experience, the critters sink and don't stink.
