Hi Shawn Woods - I purchased this trap to catch a rat digging under my garage (urban setting). I used peanut butter wrapped in a small piece of paper towel on the hook so they would have to tug it a little and not lick it off. Got two in 3 nights! Using a trail cam I know there is at least one more to capture. Thank you for this product review, these rats have been outsmarting me as they avoided my other traps, ignored my smoke bombs, and turned their noses up at RatX poison. Thanks!

Rats will sometimes lift the rear flap and escape. Wiring it closed is needed for full security. Once escaped that particular rat is not going to be easy to recapture. Have also had one (at least) not be far enough into the trap to be caught, or it sprang back when the door closed, resulting in it being hit on the bum and dragging the trap a little before departing the scene, Got that on video, wouldn't have believed it or known what had occurred otherwise. And these traps are good at catching a rat by its tail, as it is poking out the door when they spring. That's not pretty as they splice it with the door springs. A piece of wire wire about the diameter of the bar wires wrapped around the lower door frame will enable their tail to be kept with the rat in the trap, not stuck in the door. Or a stick about the same diameter laid in the door so the door can't close 100%. Experiences from catching rattus rattus. With the rear flap door unsecured have only once caught a double of 2 rats, it's efficacy isn't good or that doesn't happen often. For multiple rats, more traps on that site.
Nice to see a son taking an interest in the family business. Good job, Carson! 👍

Great video, always changing up the formula but staying true to your essence Shawn! Thanks for making these videos
Thanks Carson! If I hadn't already been subscribed for years already, I definitely would hit that button. Another great trap review Shawn, I appreciate your videos and the information you've shared with all of us.
Nicely done Carson. Very professional.
I really like this trap. The wire is so close that birds don't get in and steal the bait (like the squirelinator). Plus the trap door on the back allows smaller ground squirrels to get in after the bigger ones have set off the main trap. I lost a few because I forgot to set the lock bar, but I generally catch 2-5 a day with this trap. Thanks Shawn!!!!
More squirrel traps, please. I have grey squirrel problems right now. I'd also be worried about this trap being too short, especially for greys...

If you don't want a live catch, I recommend electric rat zapper (I think the brand is rat zapper). Kills superfast and kills anything from mice and rats to squirrels. For mice tho, it bbq them a bit, and it might smell like burned hair after the catch.

Genius videos as always Shawn. Keep up this good work.
Nice to see a well functioning product. It looks sturdy rather than plastic junk. A well done job Carson, you have a future in the family business. The variety of content is refreshing and fun. I do wish there was something to feed the wild life. (Edited name misspelling)
Onwards to video# 800. Congrats SW. Mousetrap Monday is the best of YT hands down.
Thanks bro. Great information on cage traps.
I have one. It’s 100 plus years old. Works fine too. Best to date is 3 rats at once.
Great review! Thanks Shawn!
2:46 I’m convinced that squirrel was pointing and laughing at the rat. Twice. Until it was caught…
Shawn love your stuff dude 😎
Excellent video. always very entertaining
I love how after the rat gets caught the squirrel just comes back and it looks like it's taunting the rat. 😂
Hi Shawn great video
Good evening master. Thanks for sharing. Great video! Watching from 🇵🇭. Keep safe always master 🙏⛵
Interesting mechanism; I wondered about that space where the door closed down on the rat’s tail. I also wonder if the top rod mechanism might limit where you could place the trap; it wasn’t clear if that external rod would flip upward when the door closes. If you tried to tuck the trap underneath a shelf, for example, that might be of concern. The “back door” would be helpful with critters roaming about in pairs or larger groups.

If you put it under a shelf or something, I suppose you could use only the back door design.
Good trap.. good video.. good channel. Thank you sir.
I definitely will keep watching. Awesome fight night video. Lol. 🍿🥤
You do very well thanks for the videos
I just got this trap yesterday to try and catch some squirrels that have been going after a fig tree that grows near our house. I put the trap on the roof right where they like to jump over to the tree. Came out this morning and I caught a rat. Impressed at the fast action, even if it didn't get my intended prey. I need to put a camera up there when I reset to see what other visitors I'm getting. The trap is well-made and was very easy to set.
Wow. High praise!
Good work Crawdaddy.
I would like to see more squirrel traps
Your outro sounds like the starting song of "KC and JOJO - All my life" 😎
Thanks for the video, Shawn! I'm impressed. I agree with you and a lot of others here that it could be/should be just a little larger. I wonder if they have a size for gray squirrels?
Good job!
Great video.
lmao the squirrel laughing the rat for falling in the trap
I like that design.
The size of that thing - what a catch

Trap seems to work very well, but needs to be longer so the tail doesn't get caught. Thank you for the work on this.
This could be scaled up for almost any size pest!
Actually started shopping for these kind of traps, but I was looking at others on Amazon with hook and step all the way at back of cage without that 2nd feature for less...
I agree that the trapping compartment isn't deep enough. Especially for squirrels.
Shawn, you're surely the King of caging pests and freeing the locals. Maybe you're really the Robinhood of friendly pests. The Zoro of zoology! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🌻🌻🌻

2:32 looks like the rat looks right at the camera and thinks 'ow my A!'
Absolutely great video and great job, i am going to get me two of these. Bit expensive but ... What bait do you use , i normally only use cat nuts, but that will not work here. My rats have discovered to hop over the plate to set off the trap. 😞 Once again great video, keep up the good work.
In india that hook type locking door features trap available in multiple sizes and cost around 100-200 INR
I have used this trap and have successfully caught a few rats 🐀 with it
If that rat gets any bigger, it's going to start training turtles in the way of the ninja.
So cute.
What a great trap?
I bought one of these and it’s a bit of a PITA to set up.

Hi Carson!
I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. We had lots of rats. So my dad would make these kinds of rat trap. But he was so good the neighboring farmers wanted him to make them . So dad started pricing them.
Shawn you need a pet rat or squirrel to test out those larger animals traps

They should just do away with the back door, and put the trigger/treadle there. This style of trap is very popular particularly for rats in China

That's what I was thinking. The trap is too short and the extra space is needed. If I had one, I'd make the change.

I wonder what kind of smack the squirrel said to the rat in the trap.

Where was the trap made?
do you keep rats as demonstration pet?
Once we pick up and pay for truck repairs tomorrow, we'll be at nearly $5k in rodent caused vehicle wiring and related damage over the past 3 years. I just had two of these traps delivered today. Nobody has been able to say whether it was rats or squirrels, but I'm about to find out. Any recommendations on bait? I've got a huge oak tree in the front yard overhanging the driveway, and the neighbor's oak also overhangs my driveway. Obviously we have to compete with the acorns...

Squirrel, sees rat caught in trap, learns nothing!
I just bought it!! Ill catch squirrels and they will not live...
🤣
I have a sneaking suspicion that when he releases critters alive he does so about 50 feet behind his barn and they scamper on home after a delicious meal of sunflower seeds, peanut butter and popcorn. Heck, he's probably catching the great great great grandkids of rats he caught 4 years ago!

It's pretty big. Would it make a good meal? Or is it full of diseases?
The rat won! Oh wait...
Who else doesn't like to see a caught rat set free even it's a native species 😡
Squirrels around my place don't fight rats they just knock on the screen door when they want walnuts. Rats under my shed... trying to get them hopefully no possum or rabbit gets snapped is my concern.
Great Trap! lol Shawn is going to leave a 0/10 review because "Rats and squirrels keep fighting near the trap and it never works".
I need something for martens, they are eating up my car engine :/
Is it illegal to kill a certain type of rat?
Hi shawn
Looking at the amount of mice/rats in your barn, I reckon the indigenous species get back to your farm before you do after you release them in the wild.... :+)
Odd how all the vermin always come out of that same hole in the corner. It's like the entrance from backstage. C'mon Ralph, it's time to make the videos...
