    @@Dr_Mauser it's a CO2 cartridge attached to what looks like a valve that has a tire air valve screwed into it. in other videos shawn has showed how he humanely dispatches some of the rodents. if i remember right he puts them in a jar or something and the lid has a hole in it where he would insert that tire valve. then he lets the CO2 gas out into the jar. it displaces the oxygen rich air and the rodents pass out and eventually die due to lack of oxygen

    @ If that Norway rat really felt that, it would sit quietly like that pack rat, but rather, instead of that, it cried out and tried to bite Shawn's hand at any opportunity it got, leading me to believe that it was, in fact, just very, very angry.

    @@bensoncheung2801 Some rats are just like that , i have caught some that start squeling as soon as you go near the trap, they are the biters, others simply run back and forth PANICING but other are dis-associated from everything mildly awaiting thier fate.

    he does tend to make rounds to the farming neighbors to test traps lot of it is on his property, but i think i remember he had been convincing said neighbors to use alternatives to poison on pests

    I’m a trapper by trade, we use mostly tomahawks for cage traps. They’re built very well and are very versatile

    Uses bait to catch rat, uses rat to catch racoon, uses racoon to catch coyote, uses coyote to catch tiger, uses tiger to catch elephant uses elephant to catch blue whale. Now, this is a non-native blue whale, so we're going to have to humanely dispatch it and feed it to Iceland and Japan.

    The aliens delighted about it, they're leaving behind the claw machine and entering someone's home as a brand new toy. The animals getting caught are terrified, not only are they stuck in a contraption they can't neither comprehend nor overpower, but it's only gonna get worse from there. Shawn lets native species go, most people don't.

    Glad you didn't hurt chippie......they are popular where I live, they make great companions around the house! I used to have one named scar (had a scar under one eye) and he used to tease the hell out of my cat at the patio door. Whenever I had guests over he'd come up on the deck to say hello and look for hand outs. Native rat or not, if it was caught inside my barn it'd be one dead rat.

    they also have very high intelligence even for rodents. and reproduce a lot. some also regularly help other unrelated rats if they're in peril.

    You'll be surprised how much animal life there is in the cities. Although many animals you commonly find in cities are considered pests. Also city trash pandas tend to be smarter than ones in rural areas, at least when it comes to solving puzzles.

    I once lived in Chicago and now I live in a forest. Clean air, clean water, quiet, peaceful. . . . . not to mention cheaper and safer. Whatever the tradeoff is, living in the country is worth it.

    Sucks to be you ... I don’t consider myself a farm boy by any means ... but you will never catch me living in a city. The country life is the only way to go. Only thing that sucks is the lack of cell phone reception and slow internet. But it’s worth it to walk out my any door of the house and take a leak if I want to.

    put a little grease on the hook at top and it will make it a lot more sensitive and trigger easier

    I bought one of these to catch an armadillo digging up my foundation. Then it brute forced its way out after I caught it.

    We've caught squirrels, raccoons and woodchucks in this type of trap-they all light to eat fruit from our trees and dig up the garden

    Seems like the little chipmunk set off the trap easier than the big rat with opposable thumbs.

    Used this design for groundhogs for awhile. I catch and release all kinds of animals. Mine does have a metal plate around the handle. Highly recommend a trap with that feature

    I have a Havahart squirrel trap. I have to stake it down, or the squirrels and other critters will try to push it over to get the seeds I use as bait.

    We used this trap to catch skunks that moved in under our building at work. We baited with peanut butter and tuna. We’d set the trap near a tree then call animal control when we caught one. Animal control would use the tree as cover, sneak up and inject it with some blue stuff in a syringe on a pole.

    ID-ing tip I was taught (for anyone who is curious): Chipmunks have stripes going through their eyes; ch"i"pmunk =s str"i"pe through "eye." Squirrels do not, regardless if a tree or ground squirrel.

    That last rat definitely gives the impression that the rats put up mini posters near rat holes of Shawn dressed as the grim repear with text reading "BEWARE OF THE HUMANE DISPATCHER'S TRAPS" because of so many of them "disappearing"

    Great show, This one looks good, a better version of my old jumbo style with the double levered doors for wild game etc caught a roof rat with it yrs back

    That Norway rat hit the trap door as it came down. They are crazy fast. Hard to look at an animal you know you got to dispatch. Maybe the order should place one of the live releases at the end of the video? I donno. Love your work Mr Woods either way.

    I have one of those traps. I set it up to catch opossums. But have caught mongose and tegu lizards. That trap works really great.

    I've been using Tomahawk traps for 30+ years. Great trap I will use nothing but them. You don't have to use that many seeds Shawn That rat almost got out. Did you see how fast it was. Now that was interesting to see. Thanks

    Did some research, and was surprised to find out that packrats are rats in name and appearance only. They are actually more closely related to hamsters than they are to Norwegian rats.
