That was an awesome video, I haven’t seen a wheelie contest like that in forever. That ‘60 Bel Air is beautiful and the wheelie was even more amazing. But that little Chinto was given it all it had. It was just a great video all the way through. Thanks for posting it.

Cool but I remember going to union grove dragway in Union Grove WI seen the hemi underglass & the little red wagon do full quarter mile wheel stands effortlessly was quite the sight to see

He's had PLENTY of practice after launching the car like that for 30 years at WIR.. 😆 I remember that car doing that when I was a VERY young adult, and I'm pushing 50 now.

I know that 60 Bel-Aire was set up to twist on purpose but I have to tell you, it isn’t worth it as it’s putting both the car and the driver at risk. BTW. Byron is an awesome track. RIP Ron L.☹️

The black Chevy kicked ass. I owned a ‘62 Impala. Bought and fixed it up in 1977. Totaled it less than a year later on the interstate. Stupid and reckless on my part. Anyway, I’m pretty familiar with Chevys from that era. May be mistaken, but I think the black Chevy is a Bel Air, not an Impala.

Can you still run lawnmowers and tractors at Byron? 90's. Full of great times.

Wheelies is what I personally love about muscle cars

The Bel Air had an incredible ~80ft! If it was set up for pure quarter mile it would throw down! The body appeared to have little overall flex for the amount of stress thrown at it as well.

5:09 That's a hell of a stall converter in that thing for the tires to stop like that when he lets out a little to make the shift in the water box. If it were me, I'd just do the burnout in third (or second if it's a glide) and avoid the shift at all. That HAS to be hard on the trans for the tires to completely stop like that and then have to start again in the next gear. He's got plenty enough power to start out in high gear in the water.

Jeez i wudn use a convertable for this kinda deal! In case things go haywire like the black whip. Forgive my ignorance, not knowing what kind. Didnt know these wheelie contests are even a competition. Oh cool an.orange gremlin, like my folks used to have! It was orange too. More of a burnt orange though. Factory.

As a competition to get the wheels off the ground I'd say the '59/'60 Chevy won this, it looked like he had all 4 off for a short time. I never have been that big of a fan of that body style but that particular car looked damn good !

My favorite car is '64 Nova Wagon!!!

First year of new track at gateway strip a Dodge dart stood all the way up all four wheels off ground just shy of flipping over, I was there with my grandson who was three at the time with my camera, but no photo. All these wheelstands are great, but we witnessed the best. That was in 1998 at monster Mopar weekend.

I'm pretty sure that 60 Impala was at the IHRA nats in Cordova many years ago, 01-02 maybe. I just I was impressed when it launched and three wheels were off the track.

Those old Impalas had unsupported members and sections of the frame, that's why they twist so easily. The frame on that car has not been bolstered for drag racing

59 had the cat eye tail lights. 60 had 2 or 3 round tail lights 3on the imp. 59 also only year for brows over headlights.

Something different to watch i guess, hard to get into it knowing you pretty much have to destroy your car to be competitive.
