We take a trip to north west England to check out a couple of awesome scrapyards, with Mike Marren and Dave Rome who own some cool Vauxhalls including a Cavalier SRi and Carlton Diplomat 2.6.

It's working fine for me on two phones and laptop. Issue must be with KZread. Try logging out and in again or clearing cache? It seemed to put it up live while still processing.

Most yards like that where i live, are long gone now sadly.
I had an immaculate Carlton Diplomat back in 2012. I sold it to guy who was going to use it to repair a Lotus Carlton. It was a real shame, as the car was thoroughly mint throughout, but none of the ‘enthusiasts’ wanted to pay for it. I know where there is a Carlton Diamond 3.0 24v Estate in a lock up that hasn’t moved since 2013. It belongs to a good mate of mine. I went with him to Edinburgh to collect it back in 2011.
Was a great day out scrapyard hunting! Pleasure to meet you Dougie 😁👍
Had quite a few cavaliers,mk2 and mk3 practically all models,3 that stand out mk2 E reg 2.0 CDi saloon white(very quick car) K reg facelift 2.0SRI 8v(quick car)white, fan blade alloys,M reg 2.0 16v cdx hatchback maroon(lovely car)and most had all been ex company cars with FSH.Great cars, bullet proof especially the 8v engine.
Great to see motors rescued from the scrappers Keep up the good work Great channel
Used to love wandering round Allparts in Bonnybridge back in the day. Scrolling through Ebay is not quite the same as spotting something you need buried in a scrap yard.

@@andrewhill400 I put one in there too after jumping it on the road up at the 3 Kings. Rear spring fell out and when I landed it dived left into the field 😂
Brilliant episode Dougie. Few and far between scrappies like those. I used to love looking round them as you never knew what you were going to find. Keep up the good work.
I always look at these cars with a touch of sadness & think of the day the first owner drove it home from the dealer & how proud they would have been to own a new car
Have to say Vauxhall made some fabulous looking motors back in the day
Lovin it ..proper old stool scrappy days ..rockin
I perked up at the mention of an Astramax, had one as my first car, I did 135000 miles in it and the little 1.4 never missed a beat. It was on its third pair of sills by the end though. Great stuff as always, keep up the good work👍
I'm so glad that you have this channel as I adore seeing all these old vauxhalls as they are becoming so rare nowadays ps please keep the videos coming love it 😀 ❤
Loved that Dougie. Miss the old scrapyard scavenging days.
Quite a sight to see on the roads, a cavalier followed by a Carlton. I really like the blue base model cavalier but what really caught me of guard was that MK2 Astra Estate! I am a huge fan of them and one recently popped up for sale with only I think 3,700 miles on it. It’s brilliant to see there is another one out there, very rare in that condition with dealer stickers and being a 5 door is even better as most of them were 3 doors. Absolutely incredible! Good to see it’s ended up in safe hands.
Growing up my Dad had 3 Omega's, 1 with the full irmschur body kit and tsw alloys. Always wanted the car when I could finally drive lol. Managed to get my hands on a 3.2 v6 elite what a car but my god for a tall, big guy I found the driving position awful but the seats were so bloody comfortable.
Best video you've done. Like going back in time.
Pleasure to have these yards so local to me 😎 also Mike & Dave aren't half bad 🤣
That Carlton Diplomat (K194SNL) must have been sold around the time my dad got his Carlton. He had K253SNL, a Satin Red, 2.3TDi GL saloon. Probably came from the same garage too, Bristol Street Motors in Newcastle
Great episode, and love the old school air freshener in the cav!!! Not seen one of them in year’s 🤣
Brilliant, love a scrapyard rummage
Oh my god. I used to love doing this as a kid for my dad. He used to restore minis for a little extra income. I would climb over and up car towers for parts. Later I did it for my own mk1 Escort. Its such a shame we can no longer do it and despite the obvious financial and environmental savings from reusing car parts we have to buy cheap Chinese or Indian made parts now. I miss diy scrappy so much.
Great Video mate really enjoyed it. Who doesn't like an old Vauxhall Scrapyard. 👍
Great episode. Look forward to more salvage hunting. That SRI too!
great video love the old school vauxhalls I had two cavaliers back in the day an a reg cavalier saloon which had two hundred thousand miles on it when it gave up , and an f reg white hatchback which was another great car!
Another brilliant video. I really miss the old skool scrap yards, used to spend entire days in them. A mate of mine had a Carlton GSI 3000 back in 2007 with the digi dash, if only the fool knew what he had as he stripped it and turned it into a drift car…. Yes it did get destroyed and then scrapped, such a waste.
Good vid.'A grand day out' Thanks.
Superb Cavalier content for a Friday night, cheers Dougie and company. Those facelift rear filler panels are rare in good condition. If I was closer I'd be down for TD bits 😬
I don’t have big love for Vauxhall’s, aside from the Carltons, Senators and Omegas. That said Dougie, these are great videos and your love and passion for Vauxhall’s keeps me coming back
Awesome video. Loved the first scrapyard - I’d have spent all day in that one! Also loving the mint G-plate Cav CDi still wearing its original English Garages of Fakenham number plates. I used to work on a Cav CDi at college which was G617 FVF and sold at the same dealership.

Great update, nothing better than clambering scrap yards!
Great video Dougie, always great to find a old skool scrapyard, miss ones like these.
This reminds me of the days me and my pal used to raid yards, for audi A4 and rover metro bits. We used to get what we wanted, and then have a wander up the top end of the yard, Where they used to put some of the cars from the 60s to the early 90s, what we saw used to make our eyes water, some stuff was too clean to have been binned off. laugh was when we paid for stuff, it was always a tenner, no matter what we had. Most of the items were worth a tenner by them selves, it was like buying a round of drinks. Who was paying for the bits. I remember getting a belter of a discount, for an alloy wheel with a tyre, got it for £15. a bloke came into the yard moments later, asked for alloy wheel, for his car, and got charged £70.
The good ole days of scrapyards, im afarid our local one not only dont have any interesting cars, but they long since banned anyone from going around. If you are ever around Leicester let us know, always welcome to come for a coffee and use the facilities :-)
You had a pube on your hat the whole video 🤣 good content none the less 👍🏻

....and then in 2000 was given a calibra 2.5 auto to use as a rep. I loved that car with black leather and sport button
That grey cav looks mint.
Brings back so many memories of scrap yard trips ! Thank you
Brilliant episode Dougie, I used to love going round scrap yards like that with my dad when I was a lad. Can you imagine a scrap yard nowadays that would let a little lad of 6 years old walking on sticks wander round when cars were stacked 5 high. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Came through fine with me. Great vid.👌
Nice hat dougie good old truck and driver read it years back
Love a good scrapyard trip. spent many a day there with my old man years ago!
Great video. I miss old school scrapyards like those
Great video, I do like looking at the old school cars in the scrap yards, cool 😎 .
Great stuff excellent brilliant really enjoyed it thanks for my griffin fix 👏👏👏👍
Like kids in a sweet shop! I'm always the same😁 great video Dougie! Look forward to part 2 when you go and get the other bits.
Great stuff Dougie taking us down Memory Lane. Great Vauxhall cars and old fashioned salvage yards or “Scrappys” 👍🏴😎
Always loved Vauxhall's, dad had a new cav every 3 years when I was a kid and then vectras. I've had a poverty spec Corsa merit and now a gorgeous insignia saloon in silverlake. My father in-law has 2 viva Hb and a hutchinson converted nova cabriolet. Thanks for all these vids :-)
Exellent,I really enjoyed that Dougie,I'm already looking forward to the next👌👌
I learned to drive in a mk 3 1.4 and iv never found any other car with a better seating position it was a great wee car to drive and for a 1.4 8 valve motor it was nippy for its time shame theres hardly any old scrappies left now great wee film brings back happy memories 😀
Awesome video dougie it’s crazy what you see in scrapyards I’m loving the black nova gte I got a low mileage vectra c Sri thatl keep me busy 😂
Freaking fantastic mate!
A few good finds there. It's getting really hard to find parts for my calibra now in scrapyards in the Glasgow area.
Brings back memories. That Carlton is a lovely old bus. The Cavalier 2.0i CD - My dad had one of those on an H-plate back in the day as his last company car. Only front Electric windows (GL spec!) Was absolutely sure it was not standard (115BHP) ran it on 4 star and it went like stink. Taxi company who took me to school had 2 Carltons, both 2.0 4 speed autos. Driver loved them. CDX and a GL. GL was quicker, CDX had the comfy bits and a "Lotus" spoiler on the back lol.
Really enjoyed that video and loved that original Astra Estate, very rare now. I had a Mk2 1300l Cavalier and you are right they were good engines and surprisingly quick for their day. I went onto own a Mk 2 Opel Ascona 1.8 GT, now that would be a rare motor now, it was a lovely car. I’ve got some photos of her somewhere. Keep up the great work 👍👍👍
Great video. I used to work in a local Vauxhall garage and used most of the cars at the time, which was around 89. Astra gte. Manta. Carlton. Cavalier convertible for carnival queen 😂 and then a few years later had nova sr company car which was excellent. Good luck with great channel.
Awesome the sound of that SRi memories coming back how cars should sound
Loved that, and loved the standard SRi still looks good. And omg that Carlton GSi 😢
I stayed in a council estate like that in stoke on trent when worked down there from scotland .used to see loads old vauxhalls in driveways there Back in 2014 unfinshed projects galore on bricks 😂😂😂
Great footage dougie used to love a scrapyard trip, that little Blue mk2 astra estate reminded me of my bedford astra van on a c reg had same 1.3 engine and 4 speed box,i had it resprayed in nordic blue, got some rev counter clock s and some top of the range cloth seats out of a gls to upgrade the interior.
Another cracking vid :)
great video dougie keep em coming.
Its amazing the buzz you get raking in the scrappy s
I love these kind of scrappies you just don't know what treasures you're going to find....
Nice Sri 😍 Dorset registration… my neck of the woods 👍
Started watching your 4x4 cavi and realised that your local. Great Videos bro. I run car mad Scotland and am going to share your KZread page. Keep it up. Good to see you keeping the older cars alive 👍
Great video Dougie, that 1st scrapyard is a real hidden gem and only 5 minutes from where I live. Never knew it was full of Vauxhall’s though. Was up your way earlier this week too visiting Edinburgh and the Kelpies.

Where is that scrap yard in Warrington? Is it the one near Winwick!
Another decent video, just saw a 2.2 Omega pop up on marketplace for £500.. Coatbridge!
That grey SRi looks like new. I always liked the idea of the 2005 Kia Sedona with all the seats and electric sliding doors and a Mercedes 2.9 diesel but apparently they were a bit shite. Anyway I never took the plunge, was I wise or just chicken ? A local guy to me owned a mustard yellow Nova hatchback with the weeest engine in base trim. My Brother worked on her and said he fitted a complete new exhaust from front to back for £34. Always felt good buying parts for my Astra far cheaper than Fords or Puegeots.
My two favourite vauxhall that I owned, a mk11 cavalier sri hatchback in black and a chevett special saloon in metallic blue . Wish I still had them ☹
Fantastic loved that dougie, minds me of going to kody scrappy s back in the day ….they fellas got some tidy motors..be decent spending a day removing all you need an prob some you don’t need but nice an good to have grab the parts when you can…… modern cordless power tools make a huge difference when going to breakers to pull things apart🏴👍🔩🥶🛢
Grundig made the radios in the Astra H as well as the Vectra and Corsa. Some were also made by Blaupunkt.
I live in Bicester Oxfordshire, just off the M40 and we have a old school scrap yard here, massive place , many a happy Saturday going there as a teenager, getting stuff for my old Vauxhall A200 YCF a gold cavalier SRI and E65 VJO a black cav 130 Sri
Campbell’s auto salvage is a great yard for an old school wonder the way scrap yards used to be and a lovely family
There were a few 8v 2.0i cars in the famiy, (about dozen of carltons, cavaliers, and a frontera sport) those were awesome cars, bulletproof is an understatement. I still have a very early frontera but with the 2.3 cih turbodiesel, and i have to say, i'm very tempted to swap it to an 8 valve c20ne, and possibly stick a turbo on that, with a little soft boost. By the way, if you find a fronty in the scrapyard, please send it over, i cant keep up with the parts 😂 cheers 🍻
Friday nights entertainment sorted 😎👍
Lovely Jubbly Scottie, remember the Cavaliers well, shame about the rear arches though they all seemed to rust out, beautiful MK2 Astra Merit estate.
Wade's scrapyard in Winwick , Warrington. Some of the cars have actually been in there for decades. His prices are pretty reasonable for Astra G parts.
great content lovely mix of cars love the sticker doors gtes novas ect that estate looks lvely think i seen it advertised? was watching it as have the sxi estate myself
I love cavaliers, my dad had a mk 1 which I drove a lot, then bought myself an opel Ascona. We hired a cavvy like the gold one, we felt like toffs running around in it, then the head gasket went on it just before it went back
My dad had a brand new Cavalier 1.6L H42 RSS in silver what a stereo/speakers it had
God that Carlton Diplomat is stunning!!! Why do these motors never seem to come up when I am in the market 🤣
Great way to spend a Saturday 😎 echo the comment about fresh tyres , lost a 205 gti after new tyres on but managed to catch it in time 🙃👍
Scrap yard missions, used to love them. Can't do them anymore at most if not all of them these days.
the blue astra estate was a nice suprise. was my first car. mine was a 1.3 maroon type colour. with the 4 speed you could watch the fuel gauge dropping as you sat at 70. was also my first crash, rolled the rear passenger door on a telegraph pole. was nice and nippy. But then went to a volvo 480 1.7 (110bhp), then 850 t5 (225bhp), then 850r (240bhp later mapped to 300bhp) and stayed volvo every since.
Wades is like stepping back to the 70's , nightmare to get parts off but a decent yard with some pretty rare stuff hidden by the undergrowth, Mallies in Haydock would have been worth a look too
@Phil.Oakley
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah mallys will have loads of vaux stuff and be stupidly cheap!
Astra lxi estate. Never seen one for years. Now i think are the rearest vauxhalls.
31:37 to 31:40 No triangle of doom on any Cavaliers. The CD has excellent headlight wipers too. Farewell p'tchoo.
Hi Dougie you were in wades in Warrington I,v been there a few times👍🏴😀
Miss my sris went well i had two prefacelift ones and two gsis wish id kept them all
Great episode. That scrapyard is about 20 minutes from me. Don’t happen to remember if that Calibra had a sunroof, do you? I couldn’t quite tell on the video
@DougieSRi
2 жыл бұрын
They all have a metal sunroof I think?
Hmm, weird seeing the indicator/cruise control stalk in that early 90s Senator and recognising it from the old 54 reg Corsa C I used to have; they really did use it for a long time! Always had a soft spot for vauxhalls, back in them again after a Toyota that needed super unleaded (thanks government)
Wonder if that beige Astra was a victim of the scrappage scheme? What a bunch of arse that was.
My late dad has 2 mk2 Astras in the early 90s one was a GTE for weekends only which was always garaged the other was a 1.3 GL which was very quick i saw him do 120mph in that car when it used to run on 4star leaded petrol before that was banned and my dad and i noticed when the Astras got converted to run on unleaded they lost bhp definitely not good but obviously had to be done as lead is dangerous to breathe in.
Dougie just can't wait too find out how you get on with E10.i won't use it in our 07 Saab.I tryed and I found that our Saab didn't like it
Good video. Cant be old skool walk around scrap yards....where were these ones ?
I have had three brand new Mk3 Cavs in the past so such a shame to see them in a scrappy. Love the old school type srappies.
