Okay I just have to tell you a story I was such a awful kid 🤣🤣🤣 I hated cutting okra when I was young. Mama would send me out to cut it and I would get stung by the stalk, so I would cut the hardest ones and tell her it wasn't any good so I could quit 😔. When she would go check it. Later in the afternoon I would get into trouble by her😔 so I finally showed daddy how broke out I got from trying to cut it and he told mama to look at my arms she had a fit!!! She had never seen anyone brake out like that before. So from then on her and daddy cut the okra and I picked almost everything else I could. But yes I took many a hickery switch from my lies from not cutting okra🤣🤣🤣

When I was in my mid years I started a garden. The okra stalks got so tall it was hard to pick & I got the okra itch from picking. When I told my dad about it he told me when he grew okra & it got about hip high he would cut it back some. This would result in the okra growing bushy instead of so tall. If you decide to try this I'd do it on 1 or 2 to see if you like it.

LOL! You aren’t a cheapskate! You’re frugal!! I try to get 5 uses out of my bags! Thanks for the video Ms. Lori! ❤️❤️❤️

Genius!!! This allows me to keep picking and keep freezing while fresh!
I’m so glad these videos pop back up! This is so much easier than the way I do it. ❤
Love fried okra My mom would just dust the okra with cornmeal and fry it up
I love okra gumbo. Mom would add a handful of shrimps and a piece of smoked sausage to it. I cook like mom did and my family just loves it. Thank you for sharing and God bless you and keep y’all safe.
Hello Lori. Thanks for the lessons you keep passing along to us. We do appreciate it. Be well.🥰
Thank you Miss Lori! 🙂 I love the chimes of your clock! ♡ My dad's family are German-Swiss. Grandma had a clock with a beautiful chime and the pendulum was a young girl on a swing.😍 That's a much more pleasant memory than that of my memories of okra.😉☺️ Love and blessings! 💜
My husband and I just put up 31 pre breaded quarts and are still picking okra at least one time a day. 😂. He finally bought a gallon of seafood breader and started tossing it in that. It’s really good 👍. We flash froze ours and vacuum sealed them in meal size portions. He preheats grease in a cast iron pan and puts frozen okra in there and cooks in the oven . Works great . I usually leave a few okra pods to dry on the stalk for next years seed. We grow Clemson spineless and red Jing . Both are great . I even snack on it raw. Of course I’m born and raised in SC so our blood runs slimey anyway😝.

That big ole bag full might be enough for me. I love fried okra. I haven't had any in years.
I confess... I love okra but I NEVER had any idea of what it looked like in a garden. Thank you for always teaching me new things. BTW, the advanced copy of “Prairie” is on its way to your mailbox. I hope you enjoy following ‘young Frankie Harding’ across the prairie of the Nebraska Territory. Take a trip back into 1863 and get a little relief from this current world with all its troubles.

Thank you for sharing your cooking videos and gardening videos. I too have old clock. Loved the sounds. Grandfather clock ⏰ I got mine for 20 dollar's 16 years ago. Heavy I say.
Ole my goodness. When I clicked on OAGs page and saw he had passed it brought tears to my eyes . I had no idea . I leaned how to can okra from him to . He was a tough young man to watch in his garden. Yes it’s been a while since I saw his videos. I have so many that comes to my feed to watch . I did see one where he and his lovely wife went to Deep South Homestead. But I was thinking that was this spring . I guess not . Life is short . I’m 64 and I know my clock is ticking faster to . And with the way things are going we might not have to die because we who believe and love the Lord Will meet him in the sky . I just looked back and he went to Deep South homestead 5 years ago . Dang looked like it was this year .lol
Love crunchy Deep Fried Okra! Can’t do the slimmy okra. Wish I had your Garden Spaces. Beautiful!
I've never even seen okra before so thanks.
As much as I love you Miss Lori, I can't stand okra. But I watched you and learned something anyway. Blessings to you and Mr. Brown and Peace to all 🌻

🙄I can't seem to get boiled okra to go down...it was up umtil about 15 years ago until I could get jello down, but okra still won't even get into the pan because I start salivating thinking about everything wrong with the picture...now with that said, I will eat pickled or fried okra ALL day long and you can stew it in tomatoes or add it to soups/gumbo and actually enjoy it ttil my heart's content❣
I love okra! And I love your stove! 😍❤
I like your thumbnail photo...... We have that very Heartland Oval stove in the wood burning version!!!!!
One: how did I miss that beautiful stove behind you? Two: momma put okra in her turnip greens! Oh my…so delicious!
I like Okra. Baked Okra is good as well.
Awesome timing, Miss Lori. I went to our Farmers Market here in east central Oklahoma, bought a bunch of okra and yellow crook neck squash and was wondering how to freeze it and all. Many of the farmers had okra today and my daughter and I were wondering why there was so much with the beastly hot and dry summer we've had this year and you explained it all😊. God's timing is spot on! 💙💙🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

😅 Oops! One time too many for that bag! Just like we talked about the other day, life happens...roll with it! I still watch, but it's sad that there's no more coming. I'm so thankful he was willing to share all that wisdom on You Tube.
It was so sweet of you to mention OAG. He was a wonderful fella.

My wonderful mother-in-law taught me to like okra... fried is heaven !!!
I like it frozen like this too. Quick, easy and yummy. Have a great weekend Miss Lori!
I fixed fried okra tonight for dinner. Freshly picked yesterday at a local farm. I always use an iron skillet to fry my okra. Nothing better on a summer night than fried okra and fresh sliced tomatoes.
Was in Hardy and Batesville last week-end. Bought a lot of okra at a stand in Ash Flat. Came home to Independence. Fixed a pot of navy beans - lay the okra on top, steam it, salt and pepper it then slurp it down. I’m like Mr. Brown, love it slimy.
I love okra anyway it is prepared. Fried pickled cooked over peas in soup I just love it. Since I have been watching utube, it has surprised me at the country cooks who dont know how to cut okra or asparagus. They dont know that the hard okra or the tough part of asparagus is discarded.

Thank you so much for the freezer tips! Okra is on a roll here, and the summer squash is abundant. I'd never froze either of these before, but now I know what to do!
I love every one of your cooking videos and am inspired by many but I have to say, that I will never fix okra. It isn't a vegetable I grew up eating. I did try it twice, once in a gumbo. It was the WORST (second to asparagus), slimy and just nasty! It gives me the shivers and not in a good way! 😊 Right now I have a huge pot of green and yellow beans, fresh from the farmers market with a cut up onion and a huge ham hock simmering on the stove. Have a good day!
I love old clocks have one reminds me of my child hood. I told my mother several years ago, I was worried about my memory, she said don't, you've had a bad memory your whole life. She was right
Alabama Garden was a treasure.

I love to cook bacon down and use the grease and stir fry it down until tender

I love watching your videos. I got a good laugh when your zip lock bag busted with the okra in it. I knew exactly what happened! I reuse my bags too and they will eventually breakdown. When I was a little girl we saved our plastic bread sacks and reused them. Being frugal is a good thing! 👍
This is how I do my okra. I love having it in the freezer ready to go.
I just rewatched OAG's onion series. He was such a valuable resource. Thanks for this video. My chickens have gotten way too much okra this year. I'm getting ready to start chopping!

I loved Old Alabama Gardener! I only found him shortly before his passing but really enjoy and have learned a lot from his videos. He tickles me at the end of each video where he always says, "I wish you were here to taste this with me." RIP I believe his videos are all still up and I think (don't hold me to this lol) that his widow said she was going to leave his videos up for everyone to enjoy.

Hello 👋 how are you doing today??
I enjoyed watching you cut up the okra for the freezer. OAG taught me how to can okra, too. I really enjoy fried okra and okra in gumbo. Another friend told me that a splash of white vinegar in gumbo will cut the slime from okra. It works. Thank you for another great video.
LOVE FRIED OKRA❤ YUMMY! GOD BLESS YOU MS.LORI🎉😊

Hello 👋 how are you doing today??
Not much of an Okra fan, but we can learn to eat a lot of things if we need too. I have a clock my husband bought me when we first married. Needed it repaired, the guy had it I guess 5 or 6 years. When he retired he fixed it and brought it to me. I was so glad. That clock is over 50 years old and still running.
I love that picture at the end, lovebirds! Y’all are so cute!
,Lori have you ever diced up okra and potatoes. cover it with yellow mustard and corn meal mix and fry. It is delicious and that the way you'll cook it that way from now on. Love your videos. keep them coming
Fried okra reminds me of Ma❤️ Great tips. We’ll plant some next year.
My father-in-Law lived with for years until he died at 89. Him and I loved tomatoes and okra.
Awesome! Thanks!
we live in the midlands of SC where it's hot and the humidity hight. We are harvesting okra now what we're not cooking we freece in a pan then seal in a bag. I like okra cooked on green beans and fried. Hubby of 61 years save his own seeds.
I LOVE that sliced okra in the flour bag idea!!!
My mom and dad had one of those beautiful German chime clocks. Had to be careful to not wind it too tight. Funny when you live with it, you get to where you sleep right thru the chimes but when we had company, they would complain about being awake during the night with the noise! LOL we all love your chimes!❤ music in Oklahoma!
Love okra sauted with corn meal. Love your stove.
I just love your videos. I put up okra both ways like you do. My 74 year old husband still picks an acre of okra and takes to a whole selller. And we have 2 gardens just for us to put for us and our 2 girls. We have been having a year like y'all are having some of our garden has given us an overabundance of certain veggies and not so much potatoes and onions but The Lord has given us what we need . Back to the okra my husband plants and picks it because he loves it not because we need the money even tho ever bit counts I think the blooms are so beautiful to bad you can't pick it for for a bouquet but the blooms last maybe 12 hours if thaf . you have taught me so. Much and I have been putting things up or canning them since I was 12 years old. I hope y'all have a blessed day....
I can’t tell you how much I feel like I’m right there with you during your videos. You have restored my faith in cooking..I have a lot of practice to achieve tho. Thank y’all and God bless! Naomi
