My husband and I have Homesteaded all our life, we live in the hills of Northeast Arkansas, we have 20 acres that we homestead, we live in a small cabin, we have four children, and 5 grandkids, we all live off the land, and live as simple a life as possible, I love to cook, can, garden, we have raised cattle, sheep, goats, horses, chickens. And I just want to share our journey with you.

I retired from the State of Oklahoma as a Purchasing Agent and moved to Northwest Florida Panhandle. I love retirement!! So happy for you both. I telll all my friends to watch you all. My sister in-law loves your house and pantry. Love you both. Happy Retirement!!!!!! My 28 years went fast also.

Have you tried making your tamales in a cup instead of using corn husks to wrap them? You smear the masa on the bottom and sides of the cup, fill them, add masa to cover the filling, then cover the top with foil. Steam as usual. You just eat them right out of the cup. (You can also use ramekins.) We used to have a restaurant in Sacramento years ago with "cup tamales" on the menu. Good stuff. The love is the same but they're less work.

I'm so very thankful and excited that you Miss Lori have Retired. And since Danny Retired in December now you can both finally live the good life like Sleeping in and doing what you Darn Well Please To Do. You two are so cute . Love you both. God Bless You Both and thanks for sharing with us your exciting news. I am 73 soon 74 and Retired a few years ago. I was a Certified Caregiver for 30 years. Had a beautiful family of 14 children. And now have over 50 grandchildren. And am a Great Grandma of 3 beautiful Great Grand Babies. God is Good All the Time and All the Time God is Good. I look forward to seeing and hearing about your Adventures in the near future. 😊

I bet you have some grand kids who like to come to Grandma's house just to see all the stuff inside. You can't find a more countrified home than yours, Whippoorwill. Seriously, I don't if you remember this or not but I do. Back in the 1980s, country was "in." I remember seeing little stores selling country-style items all over here, and I live in the city. Not only that but country magazines and cookbooks featuring country cooking recipes were plentiful as well as places selling furniture, rug beaters, quilts, dolls, country crafts and home decor, you name it. I remember seeing that a lot. Your home looks like it could have been featured in one of those magazines on the newsstand, but it's not that way anymore. Whippoorwill, you really keep yourself busy. That idea of buying two refrigerators was sensible.

I love to hear whippoorwills,l have only lived one place where l could hear them at night,in South Carolina,when my then husband was on duty some nights,we rented a little place in a very wooded area while waiting for our apartment to be ready,it was under construction.l was a little uneasy at night alone in the woods but l could hear whippoorwills all around ,and it comforted me ,l will never forget how much l loved hearing them,lm too close to town now,but miss hearing the night sounds of living in the country,frogs and all.

I retired 2 years ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My husband and I put in raised beds, and I started gardening for real. I started canning for the first time. I’m goofing and baking up a storm, including homemade bread. I have more time to devote to my greenhouse hobby business. I don’t have time to do all I want to do!
