I've been gigging with a First Gen Sire P7 for about 4 years now and it is hands down the best bass I've ever owned right next to my Mexican P Bass, the thing's a tonal tank and has pretty much never steered me wrong. So glad to see you covering Sire, they're the best bang for your buck for sure! (Arguably better than fender at times) but that's up to the player.

But at its insanely low pricepoint for the quality, I bought it to be a starting point to customize it to my dream pbass, and NOW IT IS! Dropped a Nordstrand P pickup in there, all hipshot hardware, stewmac MOP topped knobs, and had a custom pickguard made of aircraft carbon fiber. It is a glorious bass!

The electronics are ridiculous too! Build quality second to none! Like the shape or not, over the past couple few years, when you see someone playing a V7...that headstock has become it's trademark. Best bang for the buck. You should take the V5 short scale for a ride:)

Those pickups sound good!! I'm not very well-versed on Jazz Basses, but I like it! Nice bass and video, pity regarding the annoying high rising terminal or upspeak!

Hi Patrick - How does the neck on the Sire v7 compare to the Fender Precision Bass? Is the neck more like a Fender Jazz Bass? Thank you - and great playing!

I know it's a year later, so you probably have your answer by now. Here is my response anyway, in case anybody else is just now reading this. V7 is much more Jazz Bass like. I have a Sire V7 2nd Gen fretless, and Fender Player Precision LTD. The Player Precision is noticeably wider at the nut, and feels thicker from the front to the back from about the first fret to somewhere around the middle of the range, but only just slightly. Enough to really notice when playing at speed down below the 7th or 8th fret position. Where the neck joins the body, the necks are about the same thickness and width.

Truly, the headstock is no more offensive that the Fender shark fin, or the G&L

Are Marcus Miller basses good for beginners or should I be looking at Fender? I come from an acoustic guitar background so I was hoping for a bass that is not too heavy and easy playability. I know they make short scale models as well. Any advice?

I owned 4 fender jazz bass, 2 us and 2 mex, and i tried a sire v7 first gen, for me the sire's neck was a bit easier to play but fender is good too for beginers, you won't go wrong with those basses. I had a sterling short scale bass too wich was one of the most confortable bass i've played, very easy to play and sounds awesome, take the one you like more, they are all great basses

Site are great basses. The pickups are fine, just a bit aggressive for me, so I switch those out. Otherwise, love these basses.

Curious to know, if you do, does the pick up blend still work in passive mode? Sorry if this is an obvious thing, noob trying to find my first bass.

Good review, sir. (As always) I’d like for you to review a G&L bass. They’ve got so many good models. Also, I’d like your opinion on a Reverend bass.

I think you only get the 55pt. inspection on basses over a certain price. not very much but their cheapest stuff doesn't get it I think
