    I've just ordered myself a fretless P7!! At first I felt like it was a waste to get a bass with such a nice preamp, as I am exclusively a passive player, but - as you noted - the preamp could be really useful in providing me with an alternative sound. For the bulk of the time I can use the bass in passive mode, but for solo sections I can slap the preamp on, and have it set to a tone with cut lows and boosted treble and high mid, meaning I can cut through for those sections with a little volume boost too, all at the flick of one switch!

    Big time Sire fan here, as I own a couple of V7s. As much as I like a PJ pickup combo in theory, I am almost never happy with the tonal blend of both, especially when slapping. I like the slap tones here, however. Is that a 50/50 blend of both pickups?

  • @ebassguitar

    @ebassguitar

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yep absolutely... always both pick ups full up for me to get the slap tone! If I was a big time ‘slapper’ I’d probably play a jazz bass... but I only play stay slap about 1% of the time and prefer the PJ tone for finger style...

    New to your channel...really honest, level-headed, easy-to-understand review. You speak about the instrument without selling it to me, simply TELLING me about YOUR impressions, likes and dislikes. I'm looking into getting my hands on this model - the P7 - ...how can you tell if it's Alder or Ash? The model I'm going to check out is pre-owned, but in great condition...thanks for your review, excellent presentation. I'm really drawn to the ability to use the guitar in Passive mode AS WELL AS Active...it's an incredibly useful and impressively thoughtful feature...along with the rolled fretboard edges, quality electronics, well thought out balance, and affordability. Can't wait! Thanks again.

    I own some stupidly expensive boutique basses having replaced a fair number of Fenders. When Marcus first developed with SIRE his range, l got a V7 Jazz Bass which turned out better than my previous Fenders. I thought that maybe, l should get another Fender but this time, a P bass. As I previously decided, they are in my opinion too basic. I'm currently awaiting the delivery of a P7 identical to the one reviewed here and I'm quite excited at the prospect. I totally believe that as Marcus has put his name on all the SIRE basses, they're all of good quality through and through and dare I say it, better and more versatile than most Fenders. Two of my previous Fenders were 4 and 5 string P Bass Deluxes with two pickups, one P and the other a humbucker twin coil and 18 volt preamps. Even those didn't come up to scratch!.....

    I literally got my Sire Marcus Miller P7 today. Didn't even see this video. Around 560€ here in Finland and boy oh boy do I like this. I'm a guitarist with acute basism going on so I first got the 400€ Sterling Sub Series. It was really nice but if the temperature changed .5 C the neck would bow. I'm super happy with this and I'm really relieved that you said it keeps it's setup even through weather changes. Great bass. Kicks ass of much more expensive bass from other manufacturers.

    I don't get the fuss, bought one and sold it in a matter of weeks, doesn't hold a candle to a Fender in terms of build, hardware is crap, didn't like the neck and the stacked tone knobs are a car crash compared to many other active basses.....sorry, just not my cup of tea at all.
