This exercise made me think of the bass line in Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon." The technique that you demonstrated is well-suited to playing this song.

As a somewhat better than intermediate level player( my opinion), I'm always up for shift drills. Thanks James !

I'll try this. I usually play simandl due to old, worn and damaged hands and wrists not to mention an alien short pinky so anything that may help my fretting is welcome. After I commit the notes to muscle memory I put the backing track into Transcribe at 60%. I usually get up to 80-90% quite quickly, but that last hop to 100% is always a struggle. Some days making 80% is all my hands can do. When shifting remember to take your thumb with your hand. This little exercise will be "interesting" for me.

Great as always. In spots such as at 11:25 you show using the 10th fret of the D string but I don't see your fingers going there. Is there an error in the tab or am I missing something?

Excellent exercise, James. Sadly, as ever, despite filling in my email address I never get the free PDF sent to me. I don't what it is but it never works for me. I thought I'd try again after a long hiatus, but the technical problem remains. Never mind, keep up the great work.

I am a one finger per fret advocate so I don't really like ring & middle finger going in the same fret but this will be good exercise for many.

OK. So, what's the problem with the way the bass guitar is built? I note you have a Sadowsky in your hands. I'm sure Roger would like to be let in on the problem and how to re-design the bass.
