    I thought I was further along in my bass playing journey! (1 year in). Can play along with a bunch of songs, my tone is reasonably good, I can use 2 and 3 finger technique reasonably well, and can make some good sounds come out of the amp. Following along with this lesson this morning, and having difficulties with much of it - which is a good thing. Many thanks Mr. Hawkins for showing me some technical stuff I need to work on. I owe you a pint of your favourite beverage.

    This video couldnt have come at a better time for someone like myself who has been ignoring alternate plucking (wannabe Jamerson smh), currently uncomfortable with pinky finger rolling, never tried a hammer-on before, deathly afraid of ghost notes, and yea just a beginner in general open to exploring all of these techniques in one convenient exercise. Thanks for the perfect upload Dan!

    Hi Dan, simply amazing, you’ve inspired me to take up Bass guitar, just wondering if you have a recommendation for someone with small hands like a short scale, or should I look at full scale. I’m also interested in your set as it sounds great. I will look at getting your bass course to help and support me. Regards Ron

    Thanks, Ron! I’d say go to a shop and try a short scale to see if you like it. Don’t worry too much about brand. If you play several different basses you’ll probably be surprised at what you end up liking.

    Another excellent lesson. I was noticing that between the second and third notes (A and the octave above it) you give the strings a kind of percussive tap with your plucking hand, marking the eighth rest. Is there a word for this technique and do you have any pointers about it? Unlike ghost notes, I am not sure that I have ever seen this mentioned. (incidentally, I own your Creative Bass Technique book. Really good value!)

  • @OnlineBassCourses

    @OnlineBassCourses

    Glad you like the book! 🙏 Sometimes I do that to mark the beat but I generally say not to do it with other musicians because they’ll get annoyed 😂. I don’t really know the technical term for it but if it fits in with what you want to play, explore it. You can get some cool percussive rhythms going!
