Thank you master 🎉❤
Oh' man! This is good stuff dude! Dan, your KZread channel is very inspirational for me. You do a great job with the video presentation. Ur good in front of the camera, one of the best.. And I've been listening to John Coltrane's Giant Steps forever.
Another good tip: find a pick that works for you. Some prefer thin pics that are less resistant to hitting the strings if you want to play lighter or anything above 1mm for something harder (attack wise) etc
Man the riff tho⚔️
My teacher !
The flat 5 could mean blues, but since it also has the 2nd (F#), I would say it could technically be considered as E locrian, but the song is chromatic, since there are E, F, F#, and G notes in the song
Thank you im a beginner trying to learn bass guitar. This lesson was great
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the sound you get
🙏
Great session !
Wow
Man, that’s a bass sound !! 👍😎
🔥🔥🔥
Great teacher nd player always keep shining and stay blessed ❤️
🙏🙏🙏
another great lesson . Thanks a lot Dan for your work
Thanks 🙏
How about 'i will survive' Cake bass lines? Please review the bass lines bcoz i find all chords played with 7th on bass..there's no adding major 7th CMIIW
Great lesson Dan, as usual. Thanks a lot, you're really a good teacher. And beautiful bass too. Are those flatwound strings ?
Thank you! No, they’re worn in Elites Players 45-105
😅
It's so nice 😊
Ghost notes are kind of useless aren't they? They always throw my rhythm off when I'm trying to use them.
I strongly recommend you revisit the technique. They shouldn’t throw you off if you have the technique down plus a strong sense of rhythm (that can be studied over time).
@@OnlineBassCourses Yes, you are right! I need to work on the technique. It's the depressing & pressing of the string on the fretboard, it's ever so subtle like a violinist classical bounce, but very percussive..
"how do you stop using the fifth string as a thumb rest?" You don't. You shouldn't play a 5-string like it's a 4-string and just ignore the 5th string. You should relearn what to do with the low B string just like you had to learn what to do with the low E string. Play it right, or don't be a 5-string bass player.
Agreed although I’m not sure what ‘play it right’ means. Play it how you want. There aren’t any rules. I’ve played a 5 string for 30 years and literally hundreds of times, I’ve ignored that B string because it wasn’t needed (e.g. when reading a score on a session, or playing a Motown song on a gig). For me, there’s no such thing as a 5 string player - just a musician playing a bass. Just my opinion! 🙏👍
@@OnlineBassCourses I agree, and there may be rare occasions you wouldn't play the E string on a 4-string bass, albeit very rare, b only because you didn't need it, not because it's kind of in the way and you're not used to it. I think that's often the problem with people who are so used to a 4-string that when they switch to a 5-string that B feels in the way, so they train their brain to kind of ignore the B which allows them to think about the instrument like it's still a 4-string with an extra string in the way. I say don't ignore it, relearn it, play it right.
@@Gruuvin1 I think you're right. Don't ignore it - use it (sometimes)!
@@OnlineBassCourses I really enjoyed your video. Thx, man!
Fantastic. 🔥Thank you!
Be really cool to see tabs for what you're playing so we can play along.
congratulations you are excelent teacher
Fantastic!!
Thanks again for your help with the awesomely great riffs🐈🐕
my little "studio" resonates in C tone. When I watch bass players on yt (tutorial, lessons, showing off) no matter who, major league bassist like M Miller or no name bass players, when they hit c note on the A string it is all over the place. not in your case. in case of 4 string music man. every note sounded even, clear, really nice, no matter how you tweaked it, the c note on the A string did not go all over the place. well that was not the case with the 5 string, the C tone was much louder than the other notes, just like on the videos i have mentioned writing this text... :)
Fantastic lesson that links Theory to Practice. One of the most useful lesson I have seen , as much as I am concerned. Thank you so much Dan for the quality of your teaching.
My pleasure, Patrick. 🙏
Love the use of your ghost notes. Could you do a video 100% focused on the technique used for ghost notes with some exercises/drills for practice? Thanks Dan, for all that you do!! ❤️🎸
Thanks! Here you go: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3qguJtqebXIp7A.htmlsi=UADPii4En2cFPq-m
@@OnlineBassCourses thanks so much, Dan!! I’ll get right on it!!! ❤️🎸
Thanks Daniel. I wish I could play like you, one day I will.
I love your channel and videos but I’m sorry, this one did not help me for some reason.
Thanks for letting me know. 😂🤷 Don’t worry, a lot of them won’t resonate but that’s cool, double down on the ones that do. 🙏👍👊
Its genius!
That tone is immaculate 🔥
🙏
Looks like you put a sponge in at the bridge to help deaden the ring.
@@brucesmith9144 Barker mute. One side is foam, and one side is sponge. It's no longer in production.
@@OnlineBassCourses that’s a shame no longer in production.
Thank you for a great and helpful video. Please keep the slap videos coming.
🙏👍
I’ve done everything in this video but Dan’s tone still sound so much more crisp and clear than mine. What am I doing wrong? Is it the EQ? The amp? For reference I’m using a Fender Rumble Studio 40
Thank you
Really awesome lesson. Thanks a lot!
Nice Dan! Good tone!
I'm shocked how few bass players know Cogbill, one of my all time favorites! Great funk tips Dan, I pull out that choppy Prestia chromatic stuff even in red dirt country! Lol! Thanks brother!
Thanks dan, u do/did an amazing job with your videos. Your explaining is on point and very usefull. Take care and keep up the great work.
Very good teacher
Tablature please.
THANK FOR THE VIDEO.
Fascinating! Wonderful lesson. The Giant Steps album went gold in 2018 after selling 500,000 copies. Four of those were purchased by me. The LP. A replacement LP after the first one wore out. A CD. The remastered CD. Always loved it, but never understood it to this level. So cool! I got hooked on Coltrane from his recordings with Miles Davis in the late '50s. As a side note, for other Coltrane fans who may not know, the original Kind of Blue album suffered from an undetected speed issue (one of the tape decks used to record the album was 5% off). This was eventually discovered, and yet another CD release of Kind of Blue that was speed-corrected was released. It's a revelation if you love Kind of Blue, but have never heard the corrected version. And, yes, I've purchased Kind of Blue more times than Giant Steps. 🤩
This is indeed the best bass lesson ever. And super helpful to see it applied in improv.
Thanks Dan.
Well Dan I'm trying to get back playing moving couple hours away n finally went to get my Bass n amp etc then had a single car accident flipping twice n thank God I was okay. So between a heart attack n car accident I got home my home now I don't have a chord lol. Daggone I can't wait to get back to playing n learning❤❤❤ Thank you again for all your teaching and inspiration n incredible playing
Great lesson!
Love this..
Please make a video about slapping bass on 4 strings vs. 5 strings 🙏
