2:13 "They turned the entire backyard into a concert." That is pretty much like 90% of the music videos back then man hahaha

I personally think this is one of the best covers out there in terms of originality but keeping some of the original songs themes. It's super underrated in my opinion.

I always liked this version.

Nah...this version is too fast and rocky for me. I love how the instruments and voices/vocals had a conversation in 80s songs...and there are always more instruments to discover every time i listen to older songs.

When this came out I was like "oh shit, some no-name group is gonna try to cover what's arguably MJ's most iconic song? It's going to be disaster", but I honestly like it as much or maybe more than the OG.

MJ's version; straight out of a Fred Astaire movie. AAF's version; straight out of the hilarity factory. Both versions DELICIOUS!

Put out a few albums but never really stuck in mainstream. They unofficially split in 2007 after their 5th album had awful sales but then got back together a year or two later. Been touring since they reformed. Supposedly a new album is in the works.

i think the video of this song came out in early 2000's and i hadnt seen the video in forever, i just noticed at the 3:00 mark of the kid on the sidewalk breakdancing with a facemask on (like everyone has been wearing this year) and i didnt think much of it till i realized that this is a old video. Jay didnt even say anything about it because we are so use to seeing people wearing masks now

My favourite cover of this song has to be the glee version. Its acoustic with cellos and sung as a duet. Pretty much the only glee song I still listen to regularly

Every scene is an homage to Michael Jackson. My niece tells me she likes this version better than the original, but Michael Jackson smooth criminal has to be one of my favorite videos from MJ.

Not sure if you noticed, but numerous elements in the video pay homage to the original MJ video: 1:30 The kid is dancing MJ's moves 1:51 - The lead singer and the two guitarists do the famous gravity-defying lean, just as MJ and his back-up dancers did in the original Surprisingly, AAF's cover stays very close to the original to be a cover - the lead singer's voice pitch is certainly comparably to MJ's. Fun fact: Back in my college days (2002-2003), I was up late one night in my apartment watching Late Night with Conan O Brien when I should've been studying or asleep. AAF performed this song on the show and it was my first time hearing Smooth Criminal, as well as Alien Ant Farm. This version has been close to me ever since.

They had all the MJ references in this video, I loved this version of the song, the original is a classic and it is hard to do a decent cover but this one is one of the best covers of an MJ song around.

Saw them in Chicago in the daytime at a fest with Cake. The crowd pushed someone up against the metal stage and the persons finger got cut off they had to stop everything. Crazy FUN

This song, Fat Lip and In Too Deep by Sum 41 are the songs I watch when I want to remember how we partied in the late 90 and early 2000's. The videos bring back a feeling that I will never feel again because parting like we use to is not allowed. The best tribut too MJ ever!

The whole album was underrated, some great songs on it. They initially come across as a standard pop-rock affair from the late 90s / early 00's but they were a cut above most bands - songs like Attitude showed their diversity and craftmanship, a beautiful melancholy song, good lyrics, superb drumming. Summer is also a great tune. It's one of those albums that is greater than the sum of it's parts.

This sort of fun, slightly tongue in cheek music vid was very typical for the time (early 2000s) stemming from in part the popularity of frat boy coming of age style comedies like American Pie, Road Trip and Dude Wheres My Car.
