The song came to be almost by accident. At their gigs, the band's guitarist would play the guitar riffs from Smooth Criminal just to warm up. People liked it, so the band learned the full song and added it to their set list, eventually making it their breakout hit and gaining MJ's approval.

Nah he's innocent(most likely). He was definitely child like given his upbringing, but he started to speak out against the music industry and the evil industry before "they" hit him with child molestation accusations that he was found innocent of, and then they murdered him through his doctor before his big tour where he was really planning to out a lot of these bad people.

The late 90's and early 2000's were chock full of crappy nu-metal bands doing covers of 80's pop songs before sinking back into the obscurity from whence they came. AAF were merely another example.
