Ogle County Shootout - Cops Attack & Shoot Man For Not Answering His Door - To Save Him

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - A 32-year-old man faces a dozen charges in connection with an Ogle County shooting that sent three members of law enforcement to the hospital.
Jonathon Gounaris is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, three counts of aggravated battery and two counts of possession without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID). The Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the charges June 18.
According to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, law enforcement was called June 12 to a home in the 400 block of Wild Rice Lane in Lost Lake for reports of someone threatening to commit suicide and homicide. After multiple failed attempts to talk to the person, later identified as Gounaris, authorities sent an emergency response team into the home.
Investigators say Gounaris then opened fire on law enforcement spurring a shootout. Three members of the emergency response team and Gounaris were hurt.
In a video news release shared June 18, Sheriff VanVickle said tactical medic Tyler Carls with the Rochelle Fire Department was hit twice in the body armor. Oregon Police Department Sergeant Tad Dominski was shot in the upper arm and Lieutenant Jason Ketter with the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office was shot in the face. Carls and Dominski were taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon and released. VanVickle said Ketter was flown to a Rockford hospital for surgery and released Friday, June 14. Gounaris was also taken to a local hospital for surgery after he was shot in the stomach.
Body camera footage from the shootout was also released by the sheriff’s office. Viewer discretion is advised.
During the investigation, detectives reportedly found multiple guns, a fixed-blade knife, pepper spray and ballistic armor inside the home.
Illinois State Police is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

You’re exactly right. There was a home invasion by cops in Midland, Texas, a few years ago. A false, silent alarm had gone off at a home. Cops rolled up and never announced their presence. As anyone would, dude woke up assuming people were breaking into his home (turns out, he was right!) and to protect himself and his family, shot and killed one of the cops. The tyrannical DA charged the man, but thankfully, the jury had common sense and found him not guilty.

So, he wanted to be left alone and obviously had the financial means to do so. I wouldn't talk with a mother like that, either. This goes way beyond an 'overreaction' and straight to fascism.

Just because a group of guys announce "POLICE !!" doesn't mean they're actuality police. I have a friend that had four guys knock on his door at night and announce, "POLICE open the door", turns out they were not police. He didn't open the door and instead called the police. The four guys left, and it took the police over twenty minutes to get there and when they did, they stopped 100 yards from his house and sat there for some time just observing before they came to his house. Turns out this group of guys managed to get into another house that night somewhere nearby and robbed the place.

They weren't there due to FOID violations. Not having a FOID while possessing a firearm in one's home would only be a misdemeanor at worst. Someone called stating this person was a threat to themselves and others. He was initially accused of threatening others with harm. The police don't appear prepared for a shoot out even though they are breaking down the door. Seems like a lot of incompetence or they didn't really think he was a serious threat.

Usually it's navy blue or black bdu and a vest for city police in my area, but michigan state police Usually wear slacks and a button down short sleeve shirt, with a vest underneath. All are packing pistols, Usually glock. No helmets. The small town cops are the ones with the biggest ego in my experience. They all have a AR rifle in their vehicles though, as far as I know.
