One comment really stuck with me. He recognized before engaging the shooter that he was unprotected. “I wished I had deployed my rifle rated plates”. He did not take the time to put on armor, because he was so preoccupied with getting in as fast as possible and saving lives. And when he realized he didn’t have it, he didn’t suddenly say “oh somebody else go first” he maintained his lead position and put his life on the line, knowing full well those could be his last moments. And in doing so, he had the shooter down in less than 3 minutes on scene. THAT is a true hero.

1:05 Officer Rex Engelbert wasn’t supposed to be in the area that day but fate put him there in that crucial time because he had a role to answer the call of service. He did deliver his duty to protect the lives and prevent further deaths by confronting the shooter. God bless him and the other officers involved. He was in shape, equipped, calm and ready to take the task no matter where he was. Imagine, first time he just met the other blue guys as he didn’t even work with anyone in his group but he understood his role being the rifle man.

@Gina Jalovec very nice to read this. I had drawn a pastel drawing of Rex and Michael too. Rex is 27, and Michael 31. It's just totally awesome that they displayed total courage. Otherwise that deranged criminal murderer would have taken their lives, and others... Nobody thinks like that, but maybe we should. Where are the ticker tape parades for the guys? We need to remember. We have vigils for the beautiful souls that were victims but also heros. If they could tell their stories we would be weeping all the more. I heard one 9 yr old was shot trying to pull the fire alarm. There are 8 major heros here. I mean it sounds like these two young guys were not the first ones from law enforcement on the scene, but were the first two to enter... hm? Mmm🤔

Officer Engelbert and Detective Collazo are the epitome of Proper Policing and tactics, they lead two small teams of officers, that had never trained together and they took leadership roles and were able to execute true leadership and tactics that ultimately eliminated the threat with ease. They were able to stay calm, focused, and command their fellow officers in such a way that every police department in the United States should set a their norm for these situations. I know first hand what a stressful environment can do to a persons judgement and ability to perform tactically, it takes some a lifetime on the job to do what these two did. Officer Englebert your bravery running towards that shooter was so impressive. You saved so many lives. You and the other LE officers are courageous people! You have a job that most people would not be able to do. I pray for you and the other LE that risk your lives every day

This hero saved countless children’s lives. The body cam showed him aggressively hunting the monster until the very end. Such bravery ❤️

Some people run to help, others run for help. This man is one of the special ones. God bless him and shield him in the future - he'll surely be in harms way again protecting others..

I hope that there is mental health help for all the first responders that had to see what they saw that day. Especially the children who were killed by someone so selfish & evil.

Are they trained to believe they did wrong? Wtf? There is false humility, but there needs to be out and out respect, honor and gratefulness in their training... The kind that millions are allowed to express in comments. My God...... Watch over us Christ, and lead us to righteousness. Teach us what is wickedness and help us reward your servants that take your commandments to heart. If the Bible is not properly taught, then read the Bible of the East which is the Song of God. It specifies what aggressors ARE..... 🙏🏻

This is a true hero, to the largest extent of the word, along with the other officers that were with him AND the school staff that did not flee in order to be able to assist these gentlemen. Thank you all, you are very brave.

God bless & console you, Officer Rex. May He give you healing & peace. No one should ever have to do what you were called on to do. Yet you (& your colleagues) went in w/skill, purpose, determination, & courage. Your humility is astonishing to me, yet truly manly. You saved lives w/o counting the cost. God bless & console those who lost dear ones to that disturbed individual. God give you & your fellow officers healing & peace. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, Sir! ❤

Dude’s a hero. He definitely saved lives. I can’t imagine being the parent of one of those 9 year olds that lost their lives or the child or spouse of the adults.

This man is a hero! Although, lives were lost. His objective was to get in there and save lives! The most amazing thing is, he is so humble in his speaking and explaining his thoughts and actions. Wow!

@@weirdal706 I’m sorry I just had to laugh at your response. It sounds like something Yoda would say on Star Wars! 😂 Now that’s something you might now hear in Nashville! To be very serious though it was a national tragedy, I’ll never understand that kind of violence or any others.
