Off to GREENER PASTURES!! ...an unexpected sheep retirement, planting hay, and starting to stress.
As we patiently wait for Mother Nature to deal us a decent forecast, we've found jobs that still need done.
Mark is refreshing some strips he made last fall for our corn field prep, and I finally did a post wean evaluation of my December lambing group.
Unexpectedly, although not totally surprised, our ewe we had named 'Sister' ended up having a compromised udder and I wasn't able to keep her with this group.
So she got a different sort of retirement package.

@@carolynchadwick7867 The one that was headbutting her hand? Yes, that is one of her 'pet' rams (extra special bottle baby boys). They somehow seem to turn out like that and always wind up having to be shipped. It may be cute when they are babies but as an adult that would be dangerous. I think having some 'young blood' in the Golden Girls pen will be a good thing. Sister, being younger, may get the older arthritic ladies up and moving and that will help loosen up stiff joints.
I love how the new Golden Girl immediately started kicking up her heels and frolicking. Some of the older ones were kind of wary when they first went out on the grass, but she really took to it immediately.
So happy sister is getting to join the retirement group. I remember as a baby how she'd always come whenever she heard your voice. ❤
I was devastated when my dad had to tear down my grandmother’s cottage in Michigan after she passed. It was such a wonderful place in Michigan. Especially since I grew up in South Texas. I loved ice skating on that lake when I was little every Christmas and fishing with my grandfather in the summers. Memories thankfully last forever.

0:04 I have a very similar experience. An old (1908) cottage in Wisconsin on a 550 acre lake. Only 6 families had access to the lake and there were more fish than water. I taught my girls how to sail, boat, canoe, and fish up there. One winter about 4 years ago, the ice froze deeply, and then 3 days of strong winds drove the ice far up onto land and crushed the cottage to bits. My brain calculated and understood the loss. But I didn't anticipate how 60 years of living up there in summers would affect me.

My grandparents had to sell the family farm too. I spent my summers there and learned to love the land, the growing things, and skills from my grandparents and great grandparents. To this day, I still dream of the farm and I'm always looking for something or someone I've lost. 😢

I know I've told you that I'm a Southern Californian. My paternal grandfather built a cabin in the 1930s or so, on the Pacific coast just north of Ventura, CA. I spent many lovely summers there with my family. Eventually, my sister and I grew up and left home. The two couples that were business cronies with my Dad were also getting older so Dad bought them out and he and Mum decided they'd go ahead and put an end to an era and sell it. My sister and I, in hindsight, wish we still had the cabin so we could have an excuse to come home to California, but that era is now long gone. It was every bit a cabin -- just a basic 2 X 4 frame (yes this was back when the wood was really 2 by 4 inches!) with basic tongue and groove siding. When Dad and his cronies bought the cabin from Grandpa, there was a single 120-volt, 30 amp fuse outside that was the whole cabin's electrical supply. Dad and his partners completely re-wired the cabin with modern wiring -- it was the original c. 1930s knob and tube wiring, and made some improvements to the plumbing. It was still rather a primitive structure, but with the modern electrical system it was a lot better. So I can relate to Mark's and your sadness having to help your family sell a family home.

My daughter goes bouldering (as it's called in the UK) several times a week. She's always was an active and sporty kinda kid but bouldering is now her go to keep fit thing. It's been a massive boost to her mental health. She loves it!
Sandi, please remember to remind Lucy to put on her yellow polka dot bikini when she is sunbathing outside... Indecent exposure at its finest! 😮🫣🤣 Meanwhile, Piper is really trying to imitate Kinsey as a sheep herder... 🙄 I did learn something new this video. I never heard of strip tilling (I think that's what you called it) before. You and Mark did excellent jobs explaining the why, how and when it's done. Since I've been watching you, I salute all farmers! There is so much more to farming than hopping in a tractor and driving across a field. We should all be forever in your debt in keeping food on our tables! ❤️ No one would survive on this planet without you! 💖 I'm going to start praying for the Lord to give you great weather to begin planting. The little lambs are graduating with ease. The creep feeder is doing its job in that they are really starting to grow. The little lambs you nursed back to health are gaining weight, too. The ewe lamb with the splint is still limping a bit, but I think that is because of the feeling without it on her. I got used to walking on my splint once.... It didn't end well as I took my first step without it. 🫣🙄 I thought I had that foot on the floor, but nope. Down I went onto the floor of the doctor's office. How embarrassing. Took me about a week before I could walk without issues. I've been following your Instagram posts and know about Big Mama. She was a special lady that had a wonderful life thanks to you. That's why we follow you, Sandi. You love and care so much about the sheep in your care. Sometimes I wish I could turn off my reactions to things in life; that wouldn't be life. May peace surround your heart and mind. Thanks for being there for everyone! ❤️ Blessings from Alabama ❤️
The innnocent and trusting way the lambs look at you!!! You can tell you take good care of them.
I think Lucy could have her own channel. She’s a character. I always enjoy your content.
