These are Bowflex selectable dumbbell system. They can only attach and detach when placed on the base as shown. They will not slip off in your hands or during a workout. My cousin had the old set of these and they worked great. This model looks even better

If these aren't designed such that the handles can't rotate while the dumbbells are out of the base/stand, that's almost unthinkably bad design. Like, "design the first proof of concept➡️do zero testing with actual lifts or other diagnostics➡️ship final product" bad. I can't imagine someone would take the time and resources necessary to build their own version of a product _that already exists_ and put so little thought into it

They only twist in the casing. Once you lift them up they don't twist anywhere because the pin underneath isn't lodged in by the casing's ledge.

I would be worried a lump of it would drop on my head🤕. Also, if the mechanism on those dumbells fail, how would you fix them ? I remember about 20 years ago, l purchased some solid dumbells, and by chance l discovered that the weight on each side, was screwed onto the bar with 2 or 3 very weak looking threads, they had not bothered to weld them. A couple of turns through vibration etc, and you have a heavy peice of weight dropping on your head, or face. So l returned them to the shop, and got another pair that were better constructed. Imagine if the mechanism on 2 or 3 sections of these dumbells in the video fail, when your on your back on a bench, and they end up dropping on your teeth. Its the same with pulldown machines with a cable: the force exerted when pulling down is tremendous, imagine if the cable broke half way through a rep: you would end up with the bar smashed into your teeth at tremendous force. Don,t have nightmares out there folks: just be aware of what could potentially happened while working out.

I haven't touched this specific model, but in general with these adjustable dumbbells it's only possible to adjust them when they're resting on the stand, once you lift them out everything is locked in and there's nothing you can accidentally press to make the weights drop off. At least that's how it's supposed to work, whether it can fail comes down to engineering and manufacturing.

looks to be that the weights interlock with each other on the stand, and you turn the handle while it's in the stand to adjust. And while not on the stand it'd be difficult to twist it in a way to release any excess weights

Dude, this thing almost broke my toe. Luckily I had hard toe shoes on. I’m a mover and I was carrying a set like this, made by Bowflex. I went up with both sets and readjusted my grip. I didn’t realize it turned and all the plates fell off. That second of weightlessness and my regrip, was enough to undo the locks.

The first weight i bought were 2 dumbbells that go up to 40lbs each at walmart. Spent my first check on them and had to walk a mile carrying just to get home.

Yeah weights like this are pretty nice. I had a set like these, but after a year or so certain weights start locking up so it’s hard/impossible to change them

Nah, I bought one of these of Amazon. It almost took my head off, it wasn’t secured when I picked and tried to shoulder press it just went crashing.

Damn I was today years old when I realized he’s not saying *VENOM BOMB* he’s saying “Fed up, I’m-“ 😨🤯

In my experience these always break, sometimes quickly, sometimes in months. Don’t trust them anymore when a $150-500 product breaks that fast and the same amount in dumbbells will be good for a very long time

@@brandonburns6639 Seems lucky, everyone I know who’s had em has had the plates, links or casing just break or stop connecting, I’ve been through about four sets of them myself. Maybe if they cost an insane amount the quality improves drastically, but all the ones I’ve got that were between $200-600 didn’t last their worth. Super convenient before breaking though. Maybe it’s a branding thing, what are yours?
