I’ve been experimenting using it as a monitor replacement. It doesn’t feel natural right away but I think after getting used to it productivity can be massively improved. Doesn’t replace a monitor for gaming purposes though (or anything that requires really low latency)

Wouldn’t recommend doing this because first off the charge will only last up to two hours two it’ll be inches away from your face which will hurt your eyes after two hours if you use it at it’s full charge

I'm actually not so sure it is worse. Like seriously it depends on your preferences. The Quest 2 has a higher resolution, a standalone mode AND possibility of wireless PCVR, it is lighter and while its controllers lack fingertracking they don't have any issues, seem sturdy and their battery lasts forever. Oh and don't forget about Oculus exclusives. The Index has slightly better tracking, more FOV, higher refresh rate and fingertracking. Oh and no Facebook requirement. I think that's a draw AT BEST for the Index and i left the price discussion completely out for this comparison.

I'm 53 and while I've been gaming for literally decades - yes I played Pong in it's heyday - , this is my first dab into VR (my Quest 2 arrives next Monday). I'm super excited and I'm actually glad I waited until now to try it. Can't wait to perforate headcrabs. Great, informative video sir, you earned a sub.

Just be careful about motion sickness if this is definitely your first VR experience! I was motion sick for 1 week constant use but quickly adapted over it. I can now run, jump, look down falling, ect seamlessly. Your adaption time may vary (or you have no motion sickness at all) but have fun!

You’ll be amazed at how quickly your brain accepts what you’re seeing as reality. There really isn’t another experience like it, in gaming or otherwise. Even my rift CV1, which effectively has you viewing the world through a pair of toilet paper tubes with bug screen glued on the end, still provides a level of immersion beyond anything possible on a normal screen. Just don’t try to lean on any virtual surfaces... :)

The only headsets on the market that this isn’t an upgrade is the index, pimax, and g2 - and if you have one of those then you already know what you have and know what this is. Don’t be obtuse. Also, if wireless is more important to you than graphics, then the Q2 *is* an upgrade.

Don’t get why everyone hates the head straps. I think they’re fine. I may just have the perfect head.

Spent this evening in my new Quest 2 - my first ever VR experience. And I can't remember the last time I had so many giddy moments and awestruck exclamations. Is it the best on the market? Don't care. I've patiently waited this long and I am absolutely ecstatic with my new toy. At literally no point was I let down.

The reason I'm buying this headset for my PCVR, is because my PC can't handle a Reverb G2. And I do NOT want to deal with sensors on the valve index. Additionally, I want to play VR when I travel. So this is an incredible deal for me.

you can supposedly run the reverb g2 at half resolution and it supposedly still looks really good and at half it supposedly runs better than the rift s, then if you ever upgrade your pc you can then turn on the full resolution

Be warned, the compression algorithm on the link will take up more of your GPU. So even if your computer could play VR on a normal headset it might not do quest well. I have a GTX 1070 in my laptop and can run the Vive fine, but the quest with link stutters all day long.

@@nohaxyt6733 I'd say it's still a pretty fair comparison in terms of what ballgame the Quest 2 is playing at, we can't really compare it to stuff like the Rift S or Samsung Odyssey anymore. But, I imagine a lot of it is simply to be able to have a decent reference point. You know how good the index is, this is how good the Quest 2 is, etc...

You're trading off the Index's wider FOV, Knuckles controllers, & better built in audio + strap for the Quest 2's standalone capabilities, higher resolution, & better lenses. It's actually shocking how overall equivalent they are (as in trading blows) considering the absolutely freaking MASSIVE price difference!

This is exactly what needs to happen to really help get the market to the next level. We need cheaper and easier access to vr so more people get into it. Then the bigger game companies can really start innovating and improving on it. Vr still has a ton of issues, but the market has kind of stagnated. I think vr is the logical next step in the ever evolving video game experience. It scratches an itch I didnt know I had.

Just got mine yesterday and love it so far. It’s replacing my PSVR which I always loved but hated the setup of it (way too many wires!). So I’m really digging the portability and functionality of this so far. The biggest thing though, I find, is that this thing looks better than my PSVR if I’m being honest. I could be wrong but the lack of screen door effect you mention does really go a long way.

IMO, the most honest review available online.

As a OG quest user, it ticks me off that other OG users feel scammed into buying the first quest. I'm just happy to be a part of the VR community and have fun. With anything in tech, there will always be another great thing on the horizon, and this especially applies to newer markets like VR. Great video thrill. I know that there are concerns with Facebook integration, but I'm glad you looked at the headset objectively and gave your honest opinion.

What are you talking about? Don't you remember that when the Quest launched Link it was considered as the best VR deal ever and everyone was talking about how good it was compared to the price/performance you got from it? The only reason you feel like that is because the Quest 2 is being sold at a loss to make it an even better deal the the original Quest, I hope facebook continues this way and makes us feel scammed for the amazing deals we got the previous years.

I agree. I got my quest last spring, and don’t regret it at all. Sure, the timing’s unfortunate, and it would’ve been awesome to have a quest 2 last spring, but that’s just how it is. I doubt I’d have waited for it even if I knew when it was going to be released. Quarantine was so much more bearable and even enjoyable because it was a perfect opportunity for me to get into VR. The quest 2 is undeniably better, but that’s just the way it works. I’m just happy that I got into the VR community when I did, and that this technology is making it even easier for the community to grow.

@@ELGG1894 If they ban your Facebook account for any perceived infraction, you can't use your headset anymore as it is binded with the account. It's extremely corrupt although it probably won't screw over everybody.

Wireless adapter for index. That's as much as I've heard of. Doubt they will go fully mobile like facebook.

I know for a fact that Gabe Newell has talked about wireless VR, and how they already have it "solved." However that was a number of years ago now. But, regarding if I personally think it will come on the next Index or whatever they will call it, I don't find it impossible, but more so unlikely. My guess would be that they might've come up with a decent option with something like the Oculus DK2 in their hands where they didn't have to get the best latency or the best tracking. That is not to say they couldn't, but I wouldn't count on it.

This absolutely sets a new standard for VR gaming -It doesn’t need to hook up to a console nor pc -it is pretty cheap for a VR headset -it’s not super bulky like the PlayStation VR -(not sure about other VR headsets) you can walk around instead of sitting in a chair Is there better VR headsets? Yeah, but I recommend this as a starter

I had an Index and it's a pain to setup. Having to use a computer to run the games, the base stations setup (which both get their own power cord), and the big cable for the headset which split into 3... There are cables everywhere, and Steam VR is not that great And on top of that, I had audio issues on it, which make me sell it so I didn't have to deal with the RMA process

I still remember a couple of years ago when the the first htc vive was like $800. We have come so far.

I have had this headset for about 6 months now and I love it. I got the vr power thing so I can play for ten hours without plugging the headset into the wall. The graphics look great and it's fun and comfortable to play with

Got mine today! Here are some of my points: - The FOV can be bad with the smallest and biggest FOV setting - The strap is harder to adjust - Face pad is not very comfortable and feels like felt - When you put the controller and things right next to your face, it starts to disappear a little earlier - You can’t use the power cable as link or play while charging because it is so short - The black looks more like a dark gray - Not too much lighter than the original quest - A lot smaller - Elite strap is ESSENTIAL

I really want to get into VR and saved up a lot of money but I just don’t know what to buy, the quest 2 looks cool but I’m not sure about that 80 dollar cable and I’m scared my Facebook will be disabled and I will loose the headset and games.

I have to agree also.the only thing the quest 2 has over the quest is the specs, the headset is uncomfortable it doesn't fit over my glasses even with the spacer or barely on my face it's got a toy like build and the blacks are horrible to the point games look washed out, the clarity is amazing and games play smooth but the actual headset is a step back in my opinion. Also the glare is worse than on the quest and I have problems with all 3 lens settings,the second and third are better but there's a focusing issue im having that really noticeable around the edges,I find myself moving my head a lot to find the sweet spot and that's when I manage to squeeze yes squeeze my glasses in and without my glasses. This headset feels like it was made for kids and people with small faces I wished that they would have just kept the old design and improved the OLEDS with the new chip set. Right now I don't know if im keeping it or not because I love the clarity but not the comfort, im waiting on my elite strap to see if it at least helps with the comfort and I might have to cut the foam to fit my glasses.

Good video, comprehensive, even for someone who has barely any experience with VR. I had tried VR for the first time this past weekend (htc vive) and ever since have been looking to get something for myself. Working with moderate pc specs, and on a budget. Seems like it is a good time for me to get into vr. I am definitely going to look more into the oculus quest 2, but it is currently at the top of my list.

I just keep on watching these videos because I'm so excited when mine comes!

The quest 2 is cheaper

As a unity developer with the quest, I have a few notes that makes this very exciting for me. 1. The lack of anti aliasing was a difficult one on q1, even with the high res screen for q1 there was still a noticable amount of aliasing. Q2 with the higher res screen hopefully puts it in the threshold to resolve that issue and bumps the eas of production for everyone. 2. The q1 had a very difficult bare minimum performance bar. Having to pick and choose features, hyper optimize and multithread practically everything. All while going neck deep into GC collectors on the hunt for that miniscule bit of memory build up was always an hiding SOMEWHERE. Q1 had just enough power to get a reasonably good enough looking game if you really know what you're doing. Q2 has exactly the right amount of power and ram to solve this issue for me, and with the features coming to completion like, vulkan support for unity's URP, this will improve performance for the long run and drastically improves the detail that can be achieved. 3. Increased ram is a big one for me. When working on my companies project Void Rifters demo (available on sidequest), the platform limitations drastically influenced some of the visual style. We had to go the no textures route and use material colouring with a stylized look and detailed baked lighting. Which unfortunately left us filling the ram with baked light maps leaving no room for textures. With q2 this completely solves that issue and has me very excited. Not only can we use high res textures, but we can also increase the resolution of those lightmaps. 4. Higher triangle counts. One of the biggest challenges with q1 for me was the fact you were limited to 150k triangles when most platforms can do 400k+. This meant having to drastically optimize levels to extreme degrees. Even going as far as creating object budgets per level, then designing levels around those budgets in order to not exceed the performance limitations. With q2 I'm expecting at least a 30% increase in triangle budget making more complex scenes possible, more details, more particles and just all around a decent leap In visual quality. 5. And finally number 5, the biggest pain in the ass on the planet for mobile devices, transparency. Even the smallest amount of transparency would obliterate performance, this was a HUGE pain for me personally. Even to the point of having to remove transparency from the render pipeline all together to prevent any accidentally use of it. With q2 it thankfully has just enough power to be able to use transparency in a reasonable way. This adds fun new things like cooler particle systems, volumetric light effects, and more complex user interface designs for the mechs in void Rifter in particular. All in all, I am extremely excited for this headset. It lowers the barrier of entry across the board for developers to meet store performance requirements. It increases user base and makes the possibilities for higher visual quality thats much more obtainable. And for me, it allows me to not worry as much about what the hell is causing a 4fps frame drop every 3.257 seconds because I used a transparent thing somewhere off screen and forgot to remove it. All in all, very excited.

So devs will optimized less, i develop for pc so i have boom of these concerns.

Imo this is the best go-to affordable vr headset even for pcvr simply because the standalone is THERE. This lets you take it anywhere, from a friends house to a relatives to a hotel. In my opinion this gives it so much value because at home you play pcvr and when your not home you play standalone- all on one headset

Upgraded from a HTC Vive to the quest 2 a few days ago. I love it! The wireless PC play is working wonderfully. But yes for the love of everything get the elite head strap with battery, you won't regret it.

It's refreshing to see someone been truthful about this thing.. All other reviews seen to be following the same script (praise all criticize the strap) so annoying. I got mine this week.. The plan is replace my Rift CV1 since its headphones are dead. The bump in resolution alone makes it worth it for me... My expectations were high and although its not perfect, it does not disappoint at all.

My family and I Love the Oculus quest 2 , keeps you on the move . As for me my fave is beat saber and boxing you get great workouts with both .

just picked one up today my first time jumping into vr and loving it so far i havnt ven played a game yet just the training stuff lol

In one of his previous videos, he stated that on his Q1, he bought the 64 gigabit version, and he had all the games he would ever play on it, and it still had some space left. To be honest, it really depends on the user. If you only want a few games, then the 64 gigabit version should be more than enough. If you want literally EVERY SINGLE GAME ON THE MARKET, however, you should get the 256 version.

I went with the Quest 2 instead of the upcoming Reverb G2 for many reasons. Mostly because I felt the caveats made to go completely wireless don't even come close to outweighing that. Plus you can upgrade sound. Wireless and Link capability will improve. The library of games will expand. Not to mention I'm coming from a CV1 so the visual upgrade will still be huge. Can't wait to get mine.
