    Thank you so much for this series of videos! I have had my ocarina for 5 days, but with your help I have learned 8 songs AND how to read sheet music. I have learned more from you that I ever did in all the voice and piano lessons I went to growing up. Thank you for being so nice. You don't come across as condescending or like a "know it all", which makes it extremely pleasant to watch you.

    Very informative. Thanks for the insight, David. I agree with A.M that the Asian system seems the simplest and easiest to understand since words like soprano, alto and bass tell me more about the pitch I can expect from the ocarina than a number system does. I have gotten used to the Italian system though I don't like the STL nomenclature system. My Aria SG is a soprano to me no matter what they say about it being an alto. LOL

    Pandorado 100 sane here with the STL naming system. My Zelda 12-hole has the range of an alto C, but it’s classified as a “Tenor”, which is misleading. Some of the other weird naming cases come with the Fire and Lightning Element ocarinas, where they’re classified as Alto but they sound like sopranos

    Hi, David. I have a question. I'm writing a piece for a 12 hole ocarina. It spans from low C to high G, but I recently realized that 12 hole ocarinas in C only go up to high F. I want it to be playable on a 12 hole ocarina because it's the most common one and I want any ocarina owner to be able to play it, but I feel like changing that high G will take away from the piece. Is there a way to play high G on a 12 hole ocarina or do I have to make that choise?

  • @DavidErickRamos

    @DavidErickRamos

    9 жыл бұрын

    It's not that it's weird, but only adding to the confusion when there's already so much confusion of individual makers coming up with their own classification systems. It's also ironic considering that STL imports all their ocarinas from A company called TNG in China and TNG also calls it an Alto C!

    "back in the 1850's when the first Ocarina's were developed" This statement is misleading. A person would come away thinking the ocarina was invented in the 1850's by Giuseppe, which is false. Yes, Giuseppe did pioneer the instrument by modernizing it, however this is an ancient instrument. It goes back to ancient civilizations. Notably Chinese and Mesoamerican cultures. Ex: Maya, Aztecs. It dates back over 12,000 years.
