    There is one thing about the resolution canvas I've seen somewhere few years ago and it helped me BIG TIME. See, I didn't had a beast of a PC as I do now and I didn't know what to do - so the fella I saw said that if you set your canvas the same as your resolution, your PC won't have to do double work - since apparently it reduces the quality and then sends it out instead of just sending it out. By just changing that (it took me like 30min to fit everything back in) I got my stream on mid-high up and running. I still do that but I am on max quality and my GPU/CPU doesn't even care, temp is same as if I am not streaming. Maybe this helps someone is why I am putting it out there.

  • @creatorcology

    @creatorcology

    Жыл бұрын

    Great tip Alex! Thank you for putting it here. Hope it helps someone. There are various reasons why someone may want to "downscale" from a higher resolution and there are even several downscaling options to choose from (they each have a different stress on the computer), but like you said, if someone is having a difficult time and/or is just starting out they really benefit from just setting the base and output resolution to be the same. Usually, I recommend people use the standard 1920x1080p unless they know what they are doing. Great helpful comment Alex. Thank you!

    I am glad it came at a good time! I hope you find something you enjoy and get back into streaming! In the video I went over recording settings when you are on stream and off stream. Really depends on system but check the chapter or two after the encoding stuff (thats important to know also). The chapter marker is called "recording" and it starts around 11 minutes in. Let me know if you have more questions after you give the settings a try.

    Great video, I have been using p6 with 2 passes quarter. I have a 3080ti and a I9 10900k cpu.. I recently noticed when streaming mw2 my game stutters now ( does not stutter when not streaming) what do you think I should change the settings to? I have 2 240 hz monitors, I also use a 8 K bitrate as my upload speeds are in the 900s ( Verizon Vios) any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • @creatorcology

    Thanks for giving the video a watch! I mentioned some things in the video that you would need to expirement with to find the right settings for your exact situation. You can try using a medium profile and no passes for instance and see how things improve when it comes to in game framerate. You could also turn off Psycho Visual tuning and look ahead and see if that helps decrease the gpu load. Do you have both 240 hz monitors set to 240 at all times? You could go into display properties and set the second monitor lower if not using it to game and your gpu would thank you. For every monitor you add, it takes a toll on the gpu which will take a toll on the game. Something to consider. I have a 3080ti as well and unfortunetly there are times when gaming and streaming on the same rig I just HAVE to lower my in game quality settings to like medium or something. Hope some of these suggestions help. Sounds like you have a pretty awesome setup overall!

    @@creatorcology thank you for the quick reply. I’ll try a lower setting today.. I guess p5 and single pass. My stream always comes out looking really clear with no pixelation. The game stutter can’t be seen on stream either. I actually had an issue before with using the 2 monitors, I had a 240 hz and a 165 hz monitor. That was actually causing really bad stutter because of the two different hz. Both are set to 240 correctly. I do have look ahead already turned off, do you think it could be the psycho visual tuning that may be causing it? I noticed for this game my gpu is actually bottlenecking. Once again thank you for the great video and fast replay. I dropped you a sub

  • @creatorcology

    @creatorcology

    Жыл бұрын

    Specific setup questions are difficult because I am not there to see everything and troubleshoot. So here are some shot in the dark thoughts... OBS shouldnt be the cause of disconnects. It is merely the platform that packages all your stuff and sends it to the internet. Most of the time disconnecting refers to internet related issues. Do you have a hard line connection? Ethernet to the tower? Is it directly to the router? Or is it attached to a wireless extender or something? Do you have strict nat type settings on your router or modem? Do you need a newer modem or router? Is your internet reliable? Is your internet above 30mbps up and down? Is your ping decent? If using wifi then is your wifi module broken or plugged in correctly? Is your lan firmware updated to the newest settings (check your motherboard companies support website for downloads)? Are you streaming to twitch? Did they have a bad service day with lots of reported disconnects? (Maybe try streaming on a different day or even to YT). OBS has an auto-reconnect option that you should make sure is enabled to help not lose the stream completely. Thats all I have right now given the limited information. Hope you find a fix soon.

    Try 4500 bitrate using the normal nvenc encoder (not the ffmpeg one). BUT go to the chapter marker in the video where I setup the nvenc settings because I mention twitch bitrates and also show what other settings to use besides the bitrate. Since the 2060 is not that strong you may also need to go to low or medium quality in game settings also depending on what you play.

    Hello Danny, Missing a frame everyone now and then, especially at that low of a rate is pretty normal. When I am doing a gameplay stream I can miss a frame just from alt+tabbing to a different screen. I would watch back your recording and see if you can even spot the difference. If you CAN spot the difference then lowering your bitrate a little bit (for recordings) can help. If you are streaming then make sure you have a hardline connection and you don't have too high of visual quality if gaming. If not gaming, then before you record your screen or whatever give you computer a reboot or completely close all browsers and re-open. Sometimes browsers drain Memory usage when there is a lot of tabs and they have been open for a while. You could also try experimenting with some of the OBS encoding presets like dropping down to a "medium". All this stuff is super contextual and since I don't have the full story of your rig, what you are doing, or your settings, the above is general tips. I hope they help a little bit. Though, if you are not seeing any drops when watching back the recording then I wouldn't worry about it.

There is a lot that goes into it. Is windows updated fully? Is OBS updated fully? Is your avermedia/elgato/etc updated to the latest firmware? Dang. Okay. I have no idea what you can actually run but if I were to recommend a starting place then, use the nvidia nvenc encoder if you have it on laptop. Bitrate should be somewhere around 3000, Tuning = High Quality, Preset = P2 or P3, turn off psycho visual tuning and Look ahead, do only single pass. Start with that and tinker around.

    imagine recording a tutorial on obs settings for beginners when you are a beginner, and your videos looks like old minecraft gameplay from 15 years ago in terms of quality. ZAMN

    This tutorial has helped a lot of people according to comments and dm's. You dont have to have videos with huge production value in order for the knowledge to be good. The difference is merely time spent making the video and the equipment you have available. Everything I said actually demonstrates that I am not a beginner.

    Personally i would be embarrassed to teach people about obs settings while my own vids would look like yours, im sure many people clicked on your vid and immediately left after seeing that 240p top quality. knowledge could be good but seeing what your obs settings looks in action, man, i would never look at you and your tutorial seriously. You are not limited by your hardware, you are saying you are not a beginner, what did go wrong with how all of your videos looks like man, something ain't right here. Your audio on the other hand is pretty sweet, but i think that it already sounded great out of a box without messing with it, maybe thats the reason you was not able to mess it up haha.

    Its embarrasing looking back on this comment and realizing that you might've benefitted from my "bad" advice all this time instead of being so toxic. Hope your channel gets to 100 subs man. You got this.

If i would listen my videos would look the same as yours man, just compare man, mine vs yours in terms of video quality, dont fool yourself.

    Do not use mp4! I repeat DO NOT USE mp4! If your OBS crashes you are going to lose the entire video file. Use mkv and then you can later remux it with OBS into mp4 if you need to. This way you will always have your source video safe

    Also, if Look-ahead is enabled, then Max B-frames should be at around 4 because your encoder will dynamically select the number between 0 and whatever you specified. 4 will give it a little more breathing room and will also improve the quality if nothing is going on the screen or if you are playing a slow pace game

    Thank you for your feedback. I am aware that if your system crashes then you will lose your file with mp4 but that should be an extremely rare experience. In the last 2 years I have only ever had 1-3 crashes combimed on 2 different computers and I wasnt recording those times, I was streaming. So this super exagerrated "warning" is unnecesary unless someone has a rig that has fundamental issues with it to begin with.

    I appreciate the feedback, although this is completely based on opinion. I have seen other videos, articles that pointed to the number I chose. I also frequently mentioned that people need to expirement with their encoding settings anyways. Its not a "this should" be the setting, its a "this is the starting point to work around it". Thank you for watching the video and posting a comment.

    @@creatorcology If you are running on 16 GB of ram and trying to steam some modern game, then there is a high chance that you will run out of memory and crash. Especially if you have a ton of browser tabs open in the background. This is a very common scenario. In my case, it was God of War + ~20 tabs + streaming and recording at the same time. When it was time to split the video file, OBS would run out of memory and crash. I lost my footage 3 times before I figured out what was happening and how I could solve it

    @@creatorcology And sorry I did not want to come out as attacking your opinion. This is a really good video. I just noticed two things that cause a lot of issues for me, and couldn't stay silent 😅

    I appreciate your feedback. I did have multiple people on multiple different devices check and every person so far has said it looks good. To be fair, even if it was blurry, that would be a camera autofocusing problem not a problem with the OBS settings. So hopefully the actual information is benefiting you like it has to a lot of people so far! When I zoom into my camera box in the corner on some shots that will be a little pixely because I am magnifying a small image. That isn't fixeable unless I got a 4K camera anyways. Thanks for watching.
