The way Ewan Mcgregor delivered those lines with tears in his eyes about being sorry for what he did to Anakin, his friend, his brother, someone he loved and cared for really broke me about as much as it did Jay.

Yeah it’s absolutely the delivery. The tears in his eyes, the way his voice breaks when he says the word “sorry”. He just sells the heartbreak so well. But also, Hayden does a fantastic job of selling the sadness and horror of Anakin/Vader. The way he despondently says “I am what remains” is so freaking heartbreaking. To know that the former Jedi, the former cute kid on Tatooine is almost zombie like like this is so heartbreaking and horrifying. That whole scene is incredibly emotional.

The beautiful thing about both performances in this series, particularly Ewan’s, is that they disappear so completely into character that you don’t think of them as Ewan and Hayden and you feel all of their character’s emotions coming through. It was an amazing series for me.

It was not until this Episode that I finally realized why we needed to see that this confrontation happened: The battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mustafar was emotional and passionate, with Obi-Wan's last words to Anakin being genuinely sad over the loss of his friend and guilty for his failure to prevent his downfall, while Anakin screamed back at Obi-Wan as he burned. And then their battle on the Death Star just has them casually taunting each other with no real sense of the emotional payoff we would expect from the two of them coming face to face again after that battle. Not only did this series give us that emotional payoff that A New Hope is missing, it explained why Obi-Wan was nonchalant when facing Vader again on the Death Star and why Vader spent most of the fight bragging about how much stronger he was without acting vengeful or unfocused, as both of them were forced to accept that they no longer have any real connection to each other: Obi-Wan sees Vader as separate from Anakin and truly unable to be redeemed, and Vader accepts that if Anakin is truly dead he should not care about defeating Obi-Wan for any reason beyond besting the one enemy he could never defeat. I do think this show had some rough patches and could definitely have been streamlined in some areas, but I think the stuff that was vital definitely needed the breathing room the show provided for its pacing, and I doubt Obi-Wan's arc from depressed hermit back to Jedi Master would have felt as impactful if it had all happened within the span of a two-hour movie.

Late ass reply here but I think by ANH Vader isn’t rage fuelled at all anymore. Fighting Kenobi was luck and he didn’t go out of his way this time, he waited for Kenobi to come to him. The flame or rage is just a dull ember and all that can be done is dull taunting and half assed moves. It’s not personal anymore, it’s just a loose end to tie up and move on. He doesn’t feel triumph when he kills Kenobi, because at this point they were strangers.

Well there were some realy pointless and realy poorly loooking moments, like when Kenobi shoots that laser fance they could just walk around, i was expecting them to use that transport they were moving on but they just walked :D Was Obi-Wan afraid that Leia gona trip while they move over the fance and fall on it or what ? that whole scene was realy confusing, and when he was hideing Leia under his coat and no one noticed, they could just add scene where they finde some cargo on the way, and hide her in that or something. And Grand inquisitor did not die from the stab or how third sister did not die from the stab as well. But over all i did like the show despite some flaws, they could give screen writhers more time to polish the script. They nailed the ending for sure, Kenobi saying "hello there" and Liam Neeson shwoing up as force ghost is what i realy wanted to see and i got it.

@@BoodyDarknes I mean, those are some incredibly nit-picky complaints, that do nothing to actually detract from the story. The Leia under the coat thing is probably the most egregious, especially when they could have put her in a cargo box or something. But those kind of shortcuts are extremely common in tv series and movies. At least with the GI and Third sister being stabbed, they were consistent in the level of damage. Most people would survive a single stabwound if it didn't impact a vital organ... plus there was a Bacta tank right there which they had showed us earlier. I don't know what some people were expecting to get from this show, but it seems that because whatever preconceived notions they built up in their head didn't come true, they were determined to hate on it.

I just don't understand this take (though to each their own). This show was so frustratingly plotted, with characters making non-sensical decisions and plot points that make zero sense. A star destroyer focusing all its fire on a transport ship and the transport ship just chugs along? And why didn't vader go after Kenobi alone (or just blast him out of the sky) and let the destroyer continue after the rebels. And Kenobi spared Vader, essentially allowing his galactic genocide. Absolute masterpiece Leia putting Lola in her holster was so freaking adorable!! No, I really think that nearly everybody gets it all wrong... The point Anakin/Vader was trying to make there was that it was his choice what he became in the end, and it was a mistake of course..He decided to kill Anakin. And yes, even if the Jedi or Obi Wan kinda failed him, and Sidious manipulated him, it was still he himself who made the ultimate choice in the end. That's the real tragedy behind it. It was not about "forgiving" Obi Wan, or "taking the credit", he just made it clear that he chosed the dark side, he wanted to become Vader. Whether he has to pay the consequences for it or not, it's too late to return at this point for him. And he's aware of that, which is why he know has to go the full way. That all of course changes when Luke comes in, and brings him back to the light side as Anakin Skywalker. The whole story of Star Wars is about redemption. Anakin was a victim of his sorroundings (he was a slave as a child, treated horribly by the Jedis and also manipulated by Sidious), and therefore became a Tool of evil himself. And therefore did the worst things possible, until he meets son Luke, who's not only able to forgive him, but bring his real side back to life. He was the only one who believed in him, so Vader finally realized his mistakes, became Anakin again, saved Luk and the galaxy by killing Sidious, brought ballance to the force (just as the prophecy originally intented), regreted everything he did so that Obi Wan saved his soul as well after he died, so that he truly became redeemed, by becomming a force Ghost too.

He presumably sees himself as having made an active choice to become Vader, and the RIGHT choice.

Tragic last true connecting moment between Obi and Annakin. Not only does Obi ask for forgiveness but also Annakin can at least still tell him in his old voice it's not his fault as blue and red light are still both reflected on his face, then the blue light fades off and only the red remains (like Ben/Kylo in TFA w/ Han) when Vader threatens him and Obi knows and acknowledges Anakin is gone. So moving.

I’m glad more people are proving me right. A lot of people see him smiling at Obi Wan as if he was gloating. I didn’t see that at all. I saw him accepting to Obi Wan that it was his own fault. It was more like “let me/ Anakin go now”

Watching him change from the Jedi master afraid of his failures and cutting himself off from the force back into the kind wise Jedi master who sacrificed himself for others was a beautiful journey. His moment of realization with Vader and then walking away. Perfect. Also the hilarity of the fact he beat Anakin with the high ground by throwing rocks at him made me laugh..

I kinda got the same feeling. It's probably wishful thinking, but Vader's pause after the apology seemed like an intentional absolution (and also the truth). The comment from Palpy "the feelings for your old master" added to it. But deep inside I kinda know at this point in his life, Vader is deep into hatred and bitterness so is really probably just a better reading of that scene. Regardless, powerful shit they pulled.

When Obi-Wan said I'm sorry, my heart literally torn in pieces. It hurts so much to see how he's the only character that has been through this much pain. That's why Obi-Wan Kenobi is my all time favorite Star Wars Character ever. He lost his master, his friend and brother, his lover and literally everything. God, I love him so much. And this episode reminded me of how much I love this character

Trilla in Fallen Order was kind of redeemed, I thought. That last moment with her was very wholesome before Vader steps in I don't hear people talk about how much Moses Ingram KILLED that scene in the desert. Her crying was so affecting, we don't normally get such explicit demonstrations of emotion. I loved it so much

Hearing Hayden's/Anakin's voice while in the suit brought tears to my eyes. Because u remember that HE is in there. It's not some rando in a mask, it's Anakin. I just watched ROTS again yesterday and to watch this episode so soon after was so emotional. Just to remember everything that happened to Anakin and remember the boy (now man) that's in that suit is so devastating and haunting. Sometimes when I watch the original trilogy and then this show, I forget about Anakin and only view the suit as Darth Vader, nothing more, so to see and hear Anakin in there again is just a tragic reminder of him and his story. So sad but so good.

My favorite part was that small window where Anakin who is wearing the Vader suit came out to let Obi-Wan know that he is not at fault for how things went with him. That he chose that path. To me it’s almost the same as Anakin saying you do not need to apologize because you did not do this I did. Then the lights turn red from blue and then he has become officially Darth Vader, no longer holding on to the thought of having to prove himself to his former master. That was his story arc into becoming officially Darth Vader. And Obi-Wan say goodbye darth was his way of letting go of Anakin

Watching Jay start to cry at the emotional scenes is how we all felt. Like damn, the scene was so well done with the dialogue between Obi wan and Vader. The "Im Sorry" part is when we broke. Like we all thought we could carry our emotional baggage well until we saw Obi Wan begin to tear up. The man he trained sense Anakin was a little boy, standing now before him as the most feared person in the galaxy. It is very emotional.

The thing about the Emperor at the end is that he *seems* to make sense by strongly hinting that Vader is getting too obsessed with hunting Obi Wan but I think he’s really just manipulating Vader - or continuing to manipulate him, I should say. I don’t think Papaltine wants someone as strong as Obi Wan to live, necessarily, but he doesn’t want Vader to keep pursuing Obi Wan because he doesn’t want him to find out about Luke and Leia. The Emperor probably knew where Luke and Leia were every second. (And, if that thought doesn’t give you chills, then nothing will.) One person already connected Obi Wan to Bail Organa and then to Owen Lars. If Vader managed to catch up to Obi Wan, he might find Luke, at the very least, if not both kids. I think Palpatine’s game was to let the kids grow up out of Vader’s sight because he wanted Luke to replace Vader when he got old enough. If Vader found Obi Wan and discovered Luke in the process, he’d take Luke under his wing and Luke would end up being more loyal to him than to the Emperor. If it hadn’t been for the secret of Luke and Leia, I think Palpatine would have let Vader keep hunting. As Vader rightly said, Obi Wan isn’t just any Jedi. He’s a Jedi Master and he’s also an accomplished military general who people listen to. If he hadn’t had to protect Luke, he could have headed the Rebel Alliance himself.
