4:34 Vader you have your own ship - chase down your emotional baggage and send the ISD to chase the ‘insurgents’; you don’t need an audience to engage Obi Wan, and the ISD is better off intercepting the renegades without you 🤷‍♂️

That's *exactly* what I was thinking! They weren't just shot and left for dead. They were burned to a crisp. They weren't even recognizable. The stormtroopers made it personal and I love how this episode gave depth to those characters to make their future appearance more impactful.

I definitely loved that it gave them more agency. Like, Obi-Wan didn’t choose them to raise Luke *just* because they were family. There were possibly better candidates. He believed they’d give everything to protect him too.

@@LyricalViking I can see what people are saying with that but I think it goes more with the line Vader later says to Luke, "Obi Wan once thought as you do". In that Obi Wan was trying to reach out to Anakin and apologize in ghe same way that Luke tried to reach out to Anakin so he would reject the dark side. Vader saying HE killed Anakin and not Obi Wan seems to me that it's his way of saying dont bother. Similar to Ahoska also trying to talk to Anakin but Vader again rejects her compassion

During their conversation while the "voice" doesnt work, so you hear Anakin instead of "Vader", his (Anakin / Vader) face is blue because of Obi-Wans lightsaber and after he said "he" killed him(self) its turns red because of his own lightsaber. You can read that into the scene, and it's clearly written to leave that interpretation possible. But let's not forget the way he *grins* when he says "I killed him." Like he's actually proud of himself. And then the light turns red too. Vader has been terrifying before, in an intimidating, awesome, kind of majestic way. But in this scene, for the first time, he was not just terrifying but actually creepy. To me it felt more like after a moment of pity, you just get to see Vader as completely irredeemably, creepily evil; with this really demented evil smile. This is the moment where Obi-Wan actually comes around to that idea that Anakin is actually, truly dead - and has been killed by Vader. I don't think Vader actually meant to consciously absolve Obi-Wan of any guilt - You genuinely saw Vader at his most disgustingly genuine evil, and that is why it's so hard for Obi-Wan.

I loved you!" to "No, Luke, don't even try to redeem him, he's 100% evil, and has nothing in common with Anakin; more machine now than man; etc..." That's why at the end you also see Obi-Wan call Vader by his Sith-title for the first time.

The broken mask scene scene was one of the most viscerally emotional moments in all of Star Wars. I also noticed that whenever the blue of Obi-Wan’s saber reflected onto Vader, Obi-Wan was making an appeal to Anakin. The soul of Anakin was trying to resurface. But then, when the lighting turned red, the dark side overtook Vader again. Incredible execution there. Man, like, I had a few different complaints and nitpicks throughout this series, but I just loved so much of it. Moments like this scene made my love of the narrative overpower the other things I didn’t care for (i.e. certain writing decisions, some moments of execution, etc.)

While I have many problems with the show the Vader and Obi-wan dynamic isn’t one of them. Ewan Mcgregor and Hayden Christiansen REALLY brought their A games this episode! This episode adds so much to the original trilogy. We see the moment Obi-Wan accepts that Anakin is dead. Murdered by Darth Vader. So he truly believes what he tells Luke in A New Hope. "Then my friend is truly dead", just like Luke's "then my father is truly dead". When Obi-Wan leaves Vader, he says "goodbye Darth", not "goodbye Anakin", just like he says "only a master of evil, Darth". He no longer views Anakin and Darth Vader as one and the same. This is why he's able to talk positively about Anakin. When he talks to Leia at the end of the episode, and when he talks to Luke in A New Hope. He's thinking of Anakin as a true friend, a good person, who died a long time ago. He's looking back fondly on their memories, mourning the loss of an old friend - not blaming himself. Their fight here also explains the "when I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master" line. We really see Obi-Wan transition into original trilogy Obi-Wan here, and all that's left now is for Qui-Gon to teach him how to become one with the force and "become more powerful than you can possibly imagine". It all just makes so much sense, and provides so much closure for both the prequels and the original trilogy. This series both showed that Anakin IS Vader (as they always felt like two different characters before), but at the same time, it also shows us the transition from Anakin to Vader, and by the end, all that is left is Vader, until Luke reminds him who he really is. People complain about the writers so much, but they really know what they're doing. This show adds layers to the movies in the same way The Clone Wars did for the prequels.

Yeah true true. I also like how it gives more of an impact to Luke. When Obi Wan and Ahsoka both tried to reach out to Anakin and he remained committed to the darkside declaring that Anakin was dead despite the fact that the two were his best friends, it again makes Luke's efforts more worthwhile. It had to be Vader's family to redeem him and another thing too is how Luke didn't know Anakin as he was and only heard stories from others so for Vader it's pretty touching that Luke also tries to reach out to his true self despite never seeing him that way

This was such a perfect finale for Obi-Wan Kenobi. We got one of the single greatest duels in Star Wars history, with some of the best sword fighting choreography ever and such incredible and creative uses of The Force from both Vader and Kenobi at their absolute prime. AND on top of that we we also had one of the most emotionally powerful moments in Star Wars of Obi-Wan and Vader talking and Obi-Wan finally coming to terms with the fact that Anakin wasn’t his failure but that Vader destroyed Anakin on his own.😭😭👏🏽👏🏽 Also they could’ve ended it with Ewan McGregor saying “HELLO THERE” with absolute perfection, but they also FINALLY gave us Qui-Gon Jinn!!!

Vader finding out he has a son totally shakes things up for him along with how Luke didn't know Anakin as he used to be but still nonetheless tries to reach out. 10:15 People always misunderstand Vadar. He doesn't want to KILL Obi-Wan, he want's to DEFEAT him. Both in battle and in ideology. He needs Obi-Wan to acknowledge that he is beaten, that Vadar/(and thus Anakin) is more powerful, is superior, is now "the master", and there-fore CORRECT in his actions. Just killing Obi-Wan would mean he won, again. Until he gets that admission of defeat, he won't have won.

I like how this episode sort of explains why Vader and Obi Wan’s fight is so much more chill in episode IV. Not only did the two grow older, but Vader learned to control his rage and thirst for revenge against his old master. His conversation with the emperor helped him realize that he was letting his emotions get the best of him, and so he decided to stop pursuing Kenobi and do what’s best for the Empire as a whole. By the time A New Hope comes around, Vader simply ignites his lightsaber and does what needs to be done after Kenobi sneaks onboard the Death Star.

Having watched the episode and a couple reactions I realized that the story telling is that Vader didn't become worthy of his march theme until he confronted Kenobi and committed to the Emperor. And as a parallel Qui Gon couldn't be seen until Kenobi had closure with Anakin. It is in keeping with the notion of the Jedi notion of the perils of attachments. Obi Wan's depression was a function of his attachment to Anakin and the belief that Anakin had died at his own hand. In realizing Anakin didn't die by his hand and seeing that his friend was indeed dead by Darth's will, the attachment was released and he was free.

The duel in Revenge Of The Sith had Obi Wan use his famous form III lightsaber style and never took an offensive strike. The duel was Vader taking the offensive while Obi Wan parried and moved away. In this episode Obi Wan took a similar defensive approach but it failed because Vader adapted and overpowered Obi Wan methodically. Making Vader the only person who's defeated a Sorese user completely. However after the second round Obi Wan became completely offensive. He even held his lightsaber like Qui Gon at the end.
