My favorite part. No one was ready for the start of the funeral. The empire guy told the boss lady, "They asked for mid day. WE pushed it back 2 hours." So everyone plans for a few hours after. But! Hammer time guy in the tower starts at midday and the funeral began. It was a middle finger to the empire! They said it starts at MIDDAY!

You know what I like? The lingering shot of the dead space dispatcher guy. We had countless deaths on screen in Star Wars yet it’s always done and gone. This show treats deaths, sacrifices properly, showing the price of rebellion

I thought it was a call back to everyone noticing Syril always wearing tailored outfits. Mosk trading hats with him was finally admitting that breaking up the ensemble was less conspicuous. He finally learns to blend in and it immediately pays off.

Actually New Rockstars broke this down. (Yeah I'm six months late to the Andor train, sorry). The officers of the Pre-Mor Corporate Authority had orange billed hats. So Mosk giving Syril his orange hat was a sign of respect, showing that he is the officer in charge.

Luthen has seen justification, a spontaneous rebellion he wasn’t involved in but what he was working for and Andor coming to him of his own volition, his smile is genuine he traded everything for THIS, and he was never sure he would live to see it.

My GOD this was a great episode. Maarva setting everything on fire from beyond the grave.

I see it as a reflection of Luthen's speech in episode 10. "A sunrise I'll never witness." The difference is that Luthen is coming from a position of despair, whereas Marva is coming from a position of hope.

Especially considering she died not knowing he was what made the Aldhani heist work, the very act that inspired her; or that he orchestrated a prison break... It's an immense honour and point of pride for a parent to raise children they come to admire and be inspired by and the tragedy of Maarva was she died never getting that confirmation about Cassian.

I find so cool that Nemik says that in the end, it will be one thing, a single act that will make the Empire break, and then a riot starts because some imperial flipped a droid.

They knew what they were doing with Mon Mothma's family looking fly AF, but then you realize what they're dressed up for and it's like an immediate stomach drop. 👌

I love how everyone is looking for Cassian- Is He here?? Is He really? Where?!' and we reach the end of the episode and he had successfully got in, saved Bix, got his friends off-world and snuck on Luthen's ship and all without anyone, that he didn't want to know he was there, getting even a glimpse of him . That's some special agent shit right there.

It's intelligent foreshadowing; Cassian isn't a leader who inspires, he's a covert operative, a wet works guy. He's shrewd and cunning and has a brilliant tactical mind and commitment to his mission; so much so that he'll sink himself as deep into the mud as it takes to get it done and that's the kind of guy you want for that role. The unsung, behind the scenes hero that can never be revered because the vile things he's had to do would tarnish what he gave his life to build... if the people knew what it takes to take down a totalitarian regime and build a new republic they'd reject it... so Cassian's heroism gets buried in the sand of that beach in Scariff with only his commanding officers knowing what he did for the Rebellion. He's on the same path as Luthen.

15:41 .... "Tell him, I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong." The worst part of that line is that in many situations, it's said after the fact they have passed away. Maarva raised him as her own. Loved him unconditionally. As an only child of a single parent, my Mother has never said anything like that to me but I've come to learn of her endless efforts to make my Birthday and Holidays filled with love. You also have to love the absolute epic middle finger Maarva gave to the Empire!!

Man that scene hit hard. The thing that was bitter sweet about it is that relatives so rarely have someone to pass on their last message to the remaining family members or the wherewithal to formulate one. But Marva was able to get hers to Cassian through Braso.

Just one of several imperials to get killed in the rioting. Then again, perhaps that's a better outcome to see after a bit more screentime in season 2.

The opening song is the band preparing for Maarva’s funeral. It’s different every episode because they’re warming up. I love all the little things

I like that there's a character, like Cassian, that has no problem killing, if he needs too, to get the job done. So many writers, creators and show runners shy away from having the good guys kill Also " do me a favor, keep it that way " "I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong " Two greatest lines in the show

Not to mention the imperial reprisal that’s sure to come down on ferrix a day or two after the funeral/riot/uprising. Even for the participants who survived the troopers opening fire and everything, life is never going to be the same in that town ever again.

The circularity, he destroys the weapon he built, but not before it destroys him. And escaping the building of it leads him to the path of destruction for them both... Meanwhile we of course always knew the Death Star was his end, and vice versa, but not that it was his origin. The writers deserve all the awards, seriously, give them all of them

Well put. It's absolutely crazy that they managed to tie this all in so perfectly while Obi-Wan and Boba Fett came perilously close to destroying the continuity of the universe because their scripts were so lazy. Andor casts a wide net and because it isn't tripping over itself to get as much fan service on screen as possible there's almost no chance it'll cross into already established canon. Meanwhile, on Obi-Wan especially, everyone has to know everyone so now not only does Kenobi go on an extended journey with Leia that she fails to mention when she calls for him or talks about ever ("Wait you're on a dangerous mission with Obi-Wan Kenobi? I went on a dangerous mission with Obi-Wan Kenobi about 10 years ago. Weird it's never come up till now.") but now the guy Uncle Owen refers to as a "crazy old hermit" is Uncle Ben. Giving out very specific presents that is, in a massive coincidence I'm sure, is the exact ship Luke is mucking about with while watching his robot have a bath. So now Uncle Ben is well known in the Lars homestead. Maybe Luke has some sort of memory problem. Poor guy. Otherwise how do you explain him talking about Kenobi like he's a virtual stranger by the time "A New Hope" rolls around? It's the same thing Lucas ran into when he decided that everything in Star Wars is connected. Like wiping the mind of C-3P0 but not R2-D2. Although I'd argue if C-3P0 had his mind wiped they'd have to upload some kind of new operating system and he'd be a completely different character. Fan service might be good for a quick "Oh, cool. It's that guy" but it makes the world feel small and limits the story options. You need a creative mind who can set something in the universe while having almost nothing that casual fans would point to as being typical Star Wars. That's what makes the show so impressive as well. It's Star Wars but like it's never been done before. That probably freaks people out but it's exactly what we needed at this time to get away from the two prior series. Hopefully Mandalorian will deliver on it's trailer promises and be an epic for the ages. Also when are we getting a trailer for Ahsoka? I feel like that's not so far off either.

@@uosdwiSrdewoH i feel like you’re trying too hard to make problems way bigger here. Of course, Leia doesn’t mention a dangerous adventure with Obi-Wan because this story didn’t exist yet. The answer is really that simple. But hey, in original Star Wars, Darth Vader actually killed Anakin Skywalker, and Leia wasn’t the twin sister of Luke. Because Lucas was making shit up as he went along too. He tinkered with his movies until he sold the franchise, but Leia’s lack of dialogue referencing a 40+years later story is the deal breaker for ya. Right. (She does know Obi-Wan as Ben though, but we won’t mention that Death Star exchange with Luke, right? “Ben Kenobi? Where is he?!”) Leia also remembers her mother who died giving birth. Do we need to go point by point on all the times Pre-Disney Star Wars caused problems in its own canon? Should we address the lazy fan service and cringey dialogue of the prequels? Obviously, you’re entitled to your opinions, but I think most of the criticisms towards obi-wan (and most Disney-era Star Wars) are wildly and purposefully ignorant of the saaaaame exact shit Lucas is guilty of.

Imagine being Lonni in that scene where they're talking about Kreegyr--the survivor's guilt and the weight of responsibility to make their sacrifice worth it, and you can't show any of it while you're in the room, you have to keep it all contained. Shout out to that actor, for real

I love the little detail of Brasso clubbing a couple Imperials with Maarva's brick. Even from beyond the grave, she's still in the fight.

The end credit showed why they held on the Andor logo for so long. Looked like the Death Star being built.

the shot of Luthen’s face when Maarva speaks “The empire is a disease that thrives in darkness” he’s realizing that all of his behind the scenes plotting and planning can only do so much, the empire (and his) way of doing things behind closed doors only helps to strengthen the grip the empire has. (Like what happened after the shipment raid, no one knew it happened, and the only people really effected by it were the prisoners) For a true rebellion to happen the people, the ordinary people have to stand up against the empire in the light of day.

I haven't seen this mentioned much elsewhere, but the true scope of the prison labor is revealed in that those prisoners never leave, and so they can't be an information leak in the supply chain for the Death Star's production. It will remain a top secret until it is completed; no one will be sabotaging any part of it during construction. Except Galen Erso, of course.

Cassian built the thing that ultimately leads to his death. Ironic, he could save others from death, but not himself.

I think Luthen’s ambivalence was not that he was seeing it for the first time, Saw wouldn’t take a dilettante seriously, I think it was that he didn’t expect to see the seeds he was planting pay off right before his eyes and be vindicated not only by Maarva’s shared feeling but the reaction to her words.

The subtle nuances of the shot of the two children meeting with their parents at their side. Look at the mothers, Mon Mothma, and the other lady. They both look shaken, as if they know how unhappy an arranged marriage will make their children.

I don't necessarily need anything past season 2. But, what I do need, is more shows that are constructed this way. Even if they're in some other era. I could go for an entire show about just Brasso on the run from the Empire after these events, hopping from world to world just helping strangers as he goes. Because that's what he'd do. He's just a plain, truly good dude. Just have a show of him traveling the galaxy incognito, doing good deeds like those old 70s and 80s shows. With this level of writing and production, I'd happily watch him just doing completely nonviolent odd jobs for people, and occasionally cracking some Imperial or Pirate heads when things go south. I could watch one episode after another of him just being sincerely supportive of the innocent and downtrodden.

And a show about Luthern....what set him on this path. Also a story about his assistant Cleya. The actress killed that role...those subtle glances, the tonal inflections during her dialogues...what made her link up with Lutern? She has to have one hell of a backstory...you know that by the way she verbally undressed Mon's sister when told: "I gave him Aldahni, what have you done lately?" This show was top notch.

And suddenly, during the funeral, the full meaning of that opening credits music hits home. Right to your heart. And at the very last moment that Andor emblem takes a new meaning. And, damn, 'being the architect of your own life' takes on so many levels of complexity. Tony Gilroy has already confirmed that season 2 starts a year later.

OMG! When Jay offers Adam his cap at the 16:24 Mark, I died laughing at the moment! That was so hilarious! One couldn't have scripted that in anyway.😂😂😂

I started re-reading the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn recently, and I can honestly say this is the first thing Disney has made with Star Wars that really feels reminiscent to the level of writing these books have. The attention to detail is astounding. This show really feels like you're reading a Star Wars book. PLEASE DISNEY MAY I HAVE SOME MORE.

So Cassian was building the cause of his own death...I cried my way thru this episode. Diego Luna's ability to act just with his expressions is unparalleled. Sigh. 2 years...

The second season starts a year after the ending of season one, Tony Gilroy himself said that in an interview. I love how open he is about stuff like that, he also was like "oh yeah we're going to Yavin", he is so confident about this show that he knows, there's no reason for keeping every silly detail secret, for hype sake and he doesn't need cameos to save his show (looking at you She-Hulk). What a great show and team behind it! Also great is how he answered the question if he will do more SW stuff. He wa very clear by saying that he was doing SW stuff for 5 years, when the show comes to an end and that he will want to do different stuff by then, never say never, but probably not. He doesn't buy into this whole hype industry a lot of Hollywood and Streamers are building on, that's great!

I just got out of the hospital after 3 days and was diagnosed with some pretty heavy stuff. Finally laying down and seeing this upload, it made me happier than I have been in 3 days. You guys have no clue how much joy you bring to not just mine but everybody else’s lives. Also, 22:56 I was WAITING for Jay’s response to that!

So the fact that Cas had a hand in unknowingly building the weapon that would eventually take his life hit me in the feels when it was confirmed at the end 😭

Never have I been so emotionally involved in a droid before this one. What a great, great show. My favorite series so far.

The hat thing was a reference to the fact that the Primo Morlana Officers wore orange brimmed hats while in the field, Mosk handing over the orange hat is basically a wordless way of saying your in command here now, sir.

They told you why they used prisoners instead of droids in episode 9- prisoners are cheap and there's an endless supply of them.

That moment when you realize that the show's intro theme is the funeral march song on the show's main planet used for an epic scene, but you've been complaining about its length every episode.

That right there is how you build an uprising that is meaningful. Sure it has nowhere near the scale of the final battle in Rise of Skywalker, but this had substance behind it. That manifesto clip from Nemik in addition to the speech from Maarva was so much more than we have been given for years, and the lack is what failed to substantiate the resistance in the sequel era. Everything meant something, and the focal points meant so much more than we ever really expected.

The best explanation for the hat switch I’ve read is that they would more easily recognize their own hats in a crowd, in the event they got separated

Nice to see you guys back! With regards to season 2, Tony Gilroy has said in an interview that season 2 will comprise of four 3-episode arcs with each arc moving the story one year closer to Rogue One

Is it a Chekov's Gun if we see the weapon getting used BEFORE the setup?

This show might not have lightsabers, it might not have John Williams, and it might not have hammy dialogue. But it does have great cinematography, great writing, great acting, and most importantly it has an incredible amount of heart. And at its core Star Wars has always been about heart and belief that good will defeat evil in the end. This is arguably the best live action star wars. Given the fact that we are dealing with B and C level characters and given the grounded nature of the action. The empire has never been more terrifying than they have been in this show. When Marva gave her speech and they all went to war in the street I was even more jacked than when we blew up the death star in episode 4. Or when any of our heroes won a lightsaber fight against a sith. And that's credit to the writing, acting, and directing.

Alex Lawther, the actor who played Nemik, was brilliant during those episodes. He's somehow even better just as a voice. I wish that book existed in his voice because I would gladly listen to it for hours. It's so comforting despite the dark subject matter. Perfect casting. Edit: I amend my statement that I want the book from the series so I can listen to the actor. After watching that scene in full multiple times now I want him to read everything to me. He's so precise with his intonations. It's not just me right? Am I fawning all over him? If anything I'm underselling it. OK, that was a step too far, I'll accept that. He is amazing though. I didn't remember seeing him in anything before this. He's been in a few things I haven't watched but should and one thing I've watched many times just not recently. He's the kid in the Black Mirror episode "Shut Up and Dance". I won't spoil it but he's cast brilliantly again there because he's so sympathetic. You get that right up front so that shouldn't spoil anything for someone who has somehow avoided seeing one of the best TV series of the last forever. Go watch it. You'll be glad you did. You'll probably also be incredibly depressed but that's by design. Sounds fun hey?

I don't know about anybody else, but for me, the Death Star for the first time since I saw it 30 years ago, looked like a terrifying planet-genocide WMD. Calling Andor Star War's DS9 is the truest statement in the universe.

"This is good Star Wars dude." Truer words have never been spoken my friend. I remember being blown away by Rogue One, but I never thought they'd top it with this show. I'm so glad I was wrong. Me and my brother seriously discussed how we both thought it was one of the best seasons of television ever.

Massive Battlestar Galactica vibes from this last episode. The desperation to fight against oppressors, using whatever they have left - in the street fighting against the odds. Superb and humanizing stuff.

Luthen seeing his plan of massacres turning people against the Empire is a powerful scene. His plan is not crazy, but seeing the human cost in person is different. It is also very similar to what Palpatine did with Naboo, moving the public opinion and the Republic into a war he could exploit.

Love Adam's analogy between Andor and DS9. Totally agree that Andor exposes the human cost and the shades of gray... the grout that connects the light and the dark.

Maarva’s speech made me tear up and want to fight the empire alongside them too… This show is a fucking epic. Why are we the only ones seeing this?

It's been confirmed from the showrunner that there will be multiple time jumps in S2. Starting with a yr in the first ep and then another yr every 3.

The monologues all the way through the series have been amazing. Nemek and Maarva in this episode, wonderful. Just simply amazing storytelling in this show. I give it 3 out of three hat swaps 😀

Possible that Maarva cleared the same tunnels that Cassian later used to move around undetected through Ferrix. So Maarva, did indeed help the Rebels move in --- she just never knew Cassian was part of the Rebels, which if true, adds to the tragedy.

I truly was scared for Dedira in the riot moments. I know she's a bad person. But the actress just plays her so well. I couldn't help but want her rescued.

I want more now, this show was so amazing!! Hey, Jay, hey, Adam? I know you've got a ton always on your plate but may I recommend The Expanse?? It seriously rocks and has an amazing fan base (*cough new subscribers cough*)

Do you know every time the Andor logo comes up and you talk about it being different? they are all parts of the funeral song in this episode when you put them together.

This episode had so much to offer. Nemik's manifesto. Mon Mothma playing 3D chess. Luthen's realization. Cassian helped build the instrument of his own demise. Maarva's eulogy and her brick upside the empire's head. CPU heatsinks from early 21st century Earth make good money in the Star Wars universe. But the one main question I have that remains, is if Davo married a member of the B-52s. Oh, and dont forget that DS9 was, and always will be an imitation of the real thing, B5.

Catching up on these out of order, but shout out sooo many brilliant theatre actors in this. Here’s just 2- I saw Alex Lawther (Nemik, the manifesto kid) play HAMLET at the Armory in NY. And another play called “the Jungle” that’s come to St. Anne’s Warehouse in Brooklyn more than once. Kyle Soller, (Syril Karn) starred in “The Inheritance,” which closed literally as the pandemic hit NY. They didn’t get a real closing. So I didn’t know what the show would be, but I was so excited for the cast. Also, the show ultimately isn’t named after Kassa. That’s not his birth name. It’s the family. It’s Maarva and Clem.

I've really enjoyed Mon Motha's journey and can't wait for Season 2. By the time we get to "A New Hope", she too with have sacrificed everything.

I can't recall who said this but someone said that they exchanged hats because they knew things were about to pop off and if they got separated they look for their own hat in the crowd. Makes sense to me.

Luthen, Kino and Maarva....3 of the best monologues in all of Star Wars....Maarva's especially...if that doesn't make you want to rise up and fight the Empire I don't know what will haha

31:42 Cassian said the prisoners where "cheaper to replace" than droids. And in the Bad Batch, Tarkin mentioned one of the big reasons to stop using clones was because conscripts are half the cost. The Empire does have a budget after all. Hell, in the old comics Thwran questioned the cost of the Death Star to Palpatine himself.

I know you only been gone a week but I MISSED you!!! Finally life is back as normal with my internet best friends, and I can cry with Adam and Jay again! :) Can't wait for next stream so you get to talk to us about everything that's been going! This was an excellent show finale, but I need more, like right now!

Notice how the funeral starts early? More people show up that authorized? Cold, calm defiance. This is how a rebellion start. Good people pushed to far. This, is what quality TV can be.

Tony Gilroy has confirmed that the first episode of season 2 will start about a year after the events of this episode. Then it's the same thing they did here with blocks of 2 or 3 episodes except instead of them just telling their own mini arcs there will be a jump of one year between each block. So basically we spend up to 3 episodes living in one year and seeing what everyone's up to then we jump ahead and do the same. By the timeline of the show it should mean there are two blocks of three episodes and three blocks of two episodes making five in total because Gilroy did say that the final episode he'll basically walk right into the events of Rogue One. So it'd be something like: 1-3 in 4BBY 4-5 in 3BBY 6-8 in 2 BBY 9-10 in 1 BBY Then 11-12 will take place potentially mere hours before we meet Cassian in Rogue One. Unless things have changed but he indicated the story was locked at that point. They just needed to finish writing and that was a couple of months back so it should all be done and they're now in pre-production.
