    Yeah definitely! It can even be in a more productive way, looking at how to work around a deck's limitations. Like for Obeka; always look out for those effects that can shut down your time shennanagins, especially when a "lose the game" trigger is on the stack. Just things to keep in mind for someone new to a deck or archetype, so they dont end up wrecking themselves by playing into a wrath while running tokens or things of that sort. Hope I'm making sense here.

    A lot of cards in the deck don’t work the way you think with obeka. They have to mention end step, not just end of turn. Your turn is still ending, so “end of the turn” effects still end, but if you never have an end step, then end step triggers won’t happen. And even then, it has to be YOUR end step. If it just says “next end step” and you skip yours, it’ll just happen on your opponent’s end step.

  • @alexking8965

    @alexking8965

    3 жыл бұрын

    Half right. End of turn still happen. But if it is exiled and your endstep it is EXILED so it would not happen on your opponents next endstep. It's confusing because you usually don't deal with this stuff but that's how it has been ruled

  • @OliverQuadros

    @OliverQuadros

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@alexking8965 Well...only stuff that says "at the beginning of the end step" get exiled. But if it says "until end of turn" it will just end and will still happen. Act of Treason for example, the creature will go back to it's owner's control. Also, Minion Reflector effects suck in these decks because the ability is put on the creature and will trigger on EVERY end step.

  • @Lucas-zf6vp

    @Lucas-zf6vp

    2 жыл бұрын

    IK this comment was a while ago, but clarifying for future people. If there is a delayed trigger at your next end step, you must wait for that trigger to hit the stack. At this point, you can end the turn through Obeka or Sundial of the infinite. The trigger WILL NOT happen again, effectively negating things like Flameshadow Conjuring and Feldon's downsides. However, if you do not allow the trigger to hit the stack, it WILL trigger the next time that it could. That being said, "until end of turn" effects WILL end and cannot be avoided, as these are not delayed triggers and instead are apart of the original effect (ex: +3/+3 until end of turn.) If anyone wants a specific ruling, I'm happy to provide it. Obeka also has a ruling explanation on her gatherer's page. Happy Endings! One of my favorites: Play Lotus Field. When Lotus Field's ETB hits the stack, end the turn. Free Lotus Field!

    Ive been a purely digital arena player since I discovered magic a little over a year ago (just after eldraine), but I just recently decided to get into paper with commander, and I made Obeka as my first commander because she seemed very unique, fun, and janky. So cool to see mitch pull up his list of recommendations and see so many crossovers from the stuff I ended up getting. My deck ended up going much more the route of making tokens, stealing opponents stuff, and resource management, rather than reanimating my own creatures, but it's still super fun and Im glad I chose her.

    Secondary note, although not with Obeka but with a theme from a card like Time Stop or Dissipation you can _seriously_ ruin a blink-user's strategy as blink (unlike flicker which is instantaneous) will return things _at the next end step._ If you use a secondary form of time shenanigan to remove the opponent's End Step, those things that got blinked _remain in exile._

    I'd lean into black and put in gray merchant and kokusho. Probably also run stuff like grave pact and dictate to erebos. I know those 2 might seem contrary to the main idea of obeka but if obeka is dealt with often then the frame work of the deck would still work well with those 2 enchantments. I'd probably also throw a phyrexian reclamation in for some repeated value. Heat shimmer would probably find it's way in their. Hellkite courser would definitely find a home in the deck. Last 2 off the top of my head would be Sneak attack and Desolation.

    Been doing a little research on this one since I have a chaos deck I decided to use Obeka as the commander for giggles and a little bit more diplomacy (and also to save me from accidentally shooting myself in the foot with wild evocation and omen machine). While digging into it a little it looks like 'until end of turn' effects are NOT stopped with Obeka because there is no trigger put on the stack and they simply end at cleanup, which Obeka skips to. At next end step effects ARE still ended with Obeka though, which makes the card selection a LOT more niche and difficult to work around if what i've read is correct. I'm hoping I'm wrong because perma-nerfing your opponents board with polymorphist's jest just sounds hilairous but unless someone else knows otherwise....

    No, you are exactly correct. "until end of turn" effects end at cleanup as a part of their original effect. So, you must prioritize delayed trigger stuff for maximum synergy. There's SO much fun stuff to do with that though.

    With Feldon and the end of turn effect wouldn’t you have to sacrifice the token at the end of your opponents end step since it says “the next end step”?

    You end the turn at the beginning of the next end step. Obekas ability goes on the stack, you stack things how you want them (end of turn triggers), and put obekas ability before anything bad that happens. Everything else is exiled/doesn't happen. I use jin-gitaxias, core augur so I stack the draw 7 at the beginning of the end step, then obekas ability so anything after that wouldn't happen like sacrificing creatures. Raze Boar is another useful card in my deck.

    I have a question about this. I'm going to use mimic vat as my example. It states that the trigger is at the beginning of the next end step. But if you skip over your end step wouldn't the next end step be on one of your opponents turns? Obeka states that when it's tapped and the turn ends it empties the stack. Is this why mimic vat doesn't trigger?

    Would the end-the-turn-early effect keep until end of turn effects like infuriate? Or do those naturally expire no matter when the turn ends because there is no action to take like sacrificing?

    Those say 'until the end of the turn', and if you look at the reminder text on Obeka it says 'until end of turn effects end'. So those would expire. She allows you to stop abilities and spells that are on the stack. So anything that says 'at the end of the turn' or 'at the beginning of the next end step' is what she can manipulate because they place a trigger on the stack that she can exile

    Doesn't work. "Until end of turn" effects still end, even when you end the turn. You specifically need things that trigger once "at the beginning of the next end step' or "at the beginning of your end step" so you can respond to the trigger.

    I always thought that if you skip your end step the tokens created by Feldon would vanish during your next opponent his end step because it specifies the next end step which doesn't have to be your next end step. It would seem to me that if your endstep gets skipped the end step of your next opponent would trigger the sacrifice effekt.

  • @OliverQuadros

    you don't entirely skip your end step. You go to the beginning of your end step, wait for all the triggers to go on the stack, then end the turn. This basically exiles the triggers and since they already triggered, they won't trigger again
