    No matter how many times a see explanation videos for this game not once has anyone explained what A M F S D CD H Pts means it's obvious Pts is how many points a unit costs but the other letters are completely, different from other games i have played

  • @AshandStoneNZ

    @AshandStoneNZ

    4 ай бұрын

    Yeah, that's a fair point. All of the stats are mentioned in context in the video, but you're right, I did not take time to explain what each of them are. So here you go: A - Activation. A measure of discipline and morale. The score required to activate a unit and the base level for morale tests. The lower the better. M - Move. How far a figure can move, in inches. F - Fight. A measure of offensive ability in hand to hand combat. S - Shoot. A measure of offensive ability with a ranged weapon. D - Defense. A measure of how hard a model is to kill. A combination of armour and general hardiness. CD - Combat Dice. How many dice the model rolls when in combat or shooting. H - Health. How many hits a model can take before it is removed from play. Pts - Points. The value of the unit for army building or scoring. I hope that helps!

    @@AshandStoneNZ well i'm playing undead, I focus on them for the moment (just been playing them for less than 2 weeks now) before i add some orks to them, but i'm also building an elf-human army, and basically I just use the north star miniatures because I like there vanilla fantasy/tolkien vib! I got a friend into it as well, his playing humans and on septembre we will be starting a real campaign. So for now i'm just getting along with the rules and how to play the undead and trying not to have my necromancer killed in turn three (yes i have mainly skeltons soldiers for the moment) x)

    Hey Chris, I just finished watching your Oathmark videos and you have sold me on the system. My copy arrived today and now my collection of Joseph McCullough game systems is complete! Having looked through the rulebook, I would like to check that my understanding re: champions is correct. You mention that to determine the number of combat dice, you pick a model in the unit (not including a character) and multiply the CD stat of that model by the number of models in the front rank, capping the result at 5. If there is a champion in that front rank, one of the 5 dice being rolled will be a champion dice. So does that really mean that if the unit with a champion is down to two models, they still only roll two combat dice even though the champion might have a CD stat of 3? If my understanding is correct, I suppose that when you get down to three models in a unit, you might as well switch to having the champion fight alone so that they can roll using their own CD and fight stat?

  • @AshandStoneNZ

    @AshandStoneNZ

    4 ай бұрын

    Hey mate, that's awesome! It's a great game so I hope you really enjoy playing! Yes, you are exactly correct. Once your down to 3 models, or are fighting to the flank or rear with three ranks or less, you should always be fighting alone with your Champion. When your character is fighting alone, you use their Defence value as well, but incoming damage goes on to the unit first. So with better offence, probably better defence, and the same amount of health, there's really no downside to doing it. The tougher choice is when you're down to five models. Do you roll five dice, including the Champion, at Fight 2, or do you roll three, including the Champion die, at Fight 4?

  • @Siygess

    @Siygess

    @@AshandStoneNZ Got you, and thanks for the fast reply! At first I was surprised at how 'little' impact characters in a unit have on combat, but I suppose that the mechanics of the champion dice, that could yield 2-3 hits, makes up for the fact that you aren't getting to roll all 3 of their combat dice except in the scenarios you mentioned above. I guess I need to buy some characters for my army, then!

  • @AshandStoneNZ

    @AshandStoneNZ

    No worries! Yeah, characters aren't world beaters in Oathmark, but they can still have quite a large effect on the battle, it just tends to be more subtle. Add a Champion to a unit of Skeletons or Goblins, and suddenly a weaker unit becomes quite a threat, let alone adding one to a unit of Heavy Cavalry or Linebreakers. A Captain makes your flighty Goblins steady and your Elves incredibly reliable. Then you get to activate more than one unit at a time, which can be absolutely huge. And while Spellcasters won't be laying waste to units alone, they allow you to shift the odds in your favour, subtly changing the battlefield. A well timed Shift or a cheeky Fireball that knocks off a rank bonus can have dramatic effects.

    In the video the viewer can hear white noise. I expect that you recorded the video infront of a computer that has cooling fans running. The noise is on the narration track, as when you cut between narrative clips it briefly goes slient. Take your narration files. Load them into audacity (or equivalent). Effect > Noise Removal and Repair > Noise Reduction. Hopefully that helps.
