I didn't need to watch a beginner's guide, but always fun to watch painted Oathmark models in action on gorgeous terrain. I love the nostalgic Tolkienesque/Dark Ages theme of the game, and this channel does a great job in bringing it to life.

Another great job, Oathmark is a good game and the more amazing videos like yours, the more people will play it. On a side note, I am still very jealous of you hand painted shields for the elves. 😊

What is your favorite race, unit, and character in this game so far? Not necessarily power, but what you might like the most.

That's a tough one. I feel like the miniatures themselves have a huge influence. I think the Elves are fantastic, as well as the Skeletons. In game, I like the Dwarves. Tough, reliable and reasonably priced. And Champions are just so good. It doesn't seem like much, but that Champion Die can really shift the tide of a battle.

Very solid continuation for beginners. Hope it does well for the channel! As far as I understood, Joseph might be in talks with Osprey about Oathmark, so maybe this series is a good resource for a resurgent 2nd wave of players... 🤔

Cheers Nils! I hope people find it helpful. Yeah, I've heard about the Joseph talks too. I hope something comes of it and I'm excited to know more. I'm curious whether they're talking a Second Edition or more supplements. I've got mixed feelings on a Second Edition. Clarifying some of the more misunderstood rules and a rejigging of some of the point values would be good. But I don't know if that alone justifies a Second Edition. I'm not sure how you do that without one though, beyond errata, which has it's own issues. And of course there's an appetite for a Siege supplement!

@@AshandStoneNZ Yeah, lets wait and see. I think it is a peculiar situation with North Star in the mix as well. So far we haven't seen all the miniatures from the current books, but I guess with the latest update we are nearing the end, at least for the non monster sets. I'd be surprised to see a second edition to be honest. I'd assume another batch of expansions. Sieges, maybe another race or two? 🤔

  • @AshandStoneNZ

Yeah I feel like a supplement or expansion is much more likely. And it's an interesting dynamic with North Star for sure. To be honest I'm surprised they don't have metal monsters or siege engines ready to go already. Perhaps they want to do them all in plastic, but I would have thought a 2-4 figure crewman blister and a generic catapult or ballista would have been fairly easy to put together. Perhaps they were waiting for a siege supplement all along? 😮 I wonder what races they would do? They have the basics covered. I wonder if they would look at Gnolls or Snakemen or something to line up with their existing model lines. I had also thought of expanding unit types too. Javelin armed skirmishers and light/heavy spears for example. Though that does mess with the boxed sets North Star have already released. Dunno, time will tell.

@@AshandStoneNZ Yepp, absolutely, especially the lesser known monsters. There is no point in releasing them in plastic, so why not creating them in metall already?! Like the trolls or the dragon. Some form of Lizards would be nice I think, although it does not really fit the tolkienesque setting... Lets just wait and see.

Are there movement trays compatible with the bases included in the infantry box sets?

I'm sure there are. It's not something I've looked into as I've had no need. Chucking "25mm square base movement trays" into your search engine of choice should see you right.

I often see hero minis on the front line of a troops base, is it best for them to have support or remain an individual mini on its own base?

Generally it's better for your characters to be inside units. They improve the units capabilities and the unit acts as a buffer to protect them. On their own, they can be very squishy. The main exception is spellcasters, who require a dedicated action to cast a spell. If they are in a unit, that units action is essentially "wasted" while the spellcaster does his thing, so it's less efficient to have them inside a unit. Though in saying that, there are instances when spending a little on a bodyguard may be worth it.
