Oak bookshelves with inlay

In this video I demonstrate the process of making an oak bookshelf for my son's room. Children grow quickly and the number of their things is constantly increasing. Therefore, there was a need to create something additional for storing such things.
For this project, I decided to use scraps of oak planks and other oak remnants that had traces of visible defects that skilled carpenters do not use. However, I don't consider myself that way, so I decided to give these materials a second chance and to become useful for people. I filled all the cracks with epoxy resin and also used cross-sections of dry oak branches, recently gifted to me, as decor.
I also decided to add a small drawer, children love to collect small things and this drawer will be a convenient place to store them at a certain stage in their lives. I sincerely hope that this piece of furniture will serve my children and decorate their home for a long time.
It was a spontaneous project and a spontaneous performance. Now the situation in Ukraine is difficult, But we believe that we will defeat this bloody aggressor!

Even without the inlays, that is still a really nicely designed piece. Tons of work for that one little drawer, but it brings the entire unit together. Thanks for making that video

*Well done* Nick as always. Your designs/builds never disappoint-it's a pleasure to see everything come together. May I say; the Makita planer you use is a real work horse for a "home workshop" planer-it really gets the job done, and with power to spare. Btw, still praying for your family, and all of Ukrainian. May God rescue Ukraine and in doing so, open peoples eye's to see their need for Jesus Christ while they can. "Seek the Lord *while He may be found.* Call on Him *while He is near"* [Isaiah 55 v6]

Great video! I like the idea for the drawer slides and "fine tuning" the square plugs to fit. I'm also really proud and awed by the Ukranian people in the fight to expel the Russian invaders. 🇺🇸 stands with 🇺🇦

I was surprised at how well the trimmer works. There are many other things I can learn, and I think that I can do it in the future.
That curved recess for the drawer handle @13:47 - I would like to see how that looked without the handle. The visual effect is interesting.

Beautiful as ever. I would love to see it in its final location with some items on the shelves. The other shelf unit you made with the hexagonal theme was puzzling until you showed it in situ, when all became clear, especially with the similar theme earlier projects around. The whole look is terrific.
