For those of you saying I wasn't hard enough on the system, keep in mind that at $700 the average prebuilt is complete garbage (check out my Cheapest Best Buy prebuilt video). Tbh, at this price point you have to choose which massive compromise you are most comfortable with 😂 And remember - loads of people don't feel comfortable building their own systems and thats okay!

At first I wondered if they only put one stick in so you'll only have to buy one more to upgrade. But then I realized that single sticks of ram are not worth the price when dual sticks are around the same price anyways.

i mean you kinda aren't considering the pc at the bottom of this paragraph is $700 CAD/$534 USD and the one in the video is just a worse version for $700 USD/$917 CAD that for one is single 8gb stick, two has a 1650 (non super) and three is using a 450w PSU that won't be suitable for stronger gpu's (only has 2x 6pins) ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ztdBwh not to mention realistically you shouldn't buy the 1650 super anyways should go look for a used 570, it's very similar in performance and would save you another like $100 ish dollars. this prebuilt is no different it's still very overpriced. the only thing it has going for it is the questionable MSI B365M MORTAR mobo but why would you get a nice non overclocking mobo? unless you are buying a K chip you should more or less use the cheapest mobo for intel it literally doesn't matter unless you have a CPU that can overclock (yes this includes ram, the i3 9100f can't use higher speed memory then 2400mhz regardless of XMP or whatever else, i know because i own an i3 9100f.)

Great review! I think you made some very valid points. I was laughing hard at the khazikstan and small guy in an f150 comments too. I think you made a good case for why they picked what they did. Your criticism of the single channel memory was legitimate. I mean two 4gb chips would run about the same as one 8gb stick. Maybe they were thinking it would be easy enough to throw in another 8gb chip. Overall I enjoyed the video very much. Your presentation style balances well between delivering the technical facts in an interesting way and delivering some witty humor here and there.

Agreed, but most of the Money was most likely gone into the PSU, GPU, mobo and SSD, remember PSU prices have gone up vastly even on the lower tier PSU's. Same with GPUs even the low end GPUs cost nearly twice as much in some instances. Then obviously Ur paying a premium for someone to build the machine and ur getting a warranty on the entire Machine with one company. But for 700 in this price hike cause of covid is still somewhat decent but the cpu could have easily been a i5 none Apu variant as it's only a few dollars difference then the i3.

I like that because they used high quality base components (motherboard, PSU, cooler, ssd), this system is very upgradeable. You could save up over time for another 8gb stick of ram, a CPU or a gpu. I think this way of thinking should be more common in pre-built systems. Sacrifice a bit of performance at the start, but have that and more available later with one or two simple upgrades.

as someone who used to build all my computers I ended up ordering the $1000 prebuild from NZXT about a year ago due to the fact that i simply don't have the time anymore to spend part shopping and comparing or putting it all together. I have been very happy with the system i got and it has lots of room to upgrade in the future. If I had been doing a incremental upgrade to my old PC i probably wouldn't have but as my old system was originally built back in 2010 and needed to be fully rebuilt this was all around just easier and I have been recommending them to friends and family in a similar situation.

For $700, this is about the setup I might expect, it seems very well rounded as you explained. the i3 is kinda eh, but I can't expect too much when there's a graphics card that takes up almost a fifth of the computer budget. A 1650, even as one of the lowest end, somewhat current gen graphics cards, still performs decently well to an extent I think.

@3:24 So I don't think you actually can get the XMP to work on the b360 boards but maybe that's changed. The reason why you see 2400 here and 2666 on those other builds even with the same chipsset is that the the speed is set to the cpu and the 9100 default is 2400 while the 8th and 9th i5s and up are defaulted to 2666. If you plug an 8400 into that machine it'll run at 2666 for example but the 8100 or 9100 will run at 2400 and as far as I know you can't effectively change to a higher xmp in the bios. On the plus side they gave you a pretty good module. Those XPG 2 oz copper RAM modules are pretty good and actually perform really well at 3000. Unfortunately you won't see that speed on b or h series boards. I think you need at least a z370

My recent upgrade came just shy of $900 (~878), however, I already had a case, power supply, and windows installed on an old SSD (cloned to new M.2 drive). The case is a Rosewill Thor V2 case (103.99 in 2014, 129.99 now), the power supply is a Corsair HX850 (159.99 in 2013), and Windows is $99 at least. This means to build my computer from the ground up at minimum would have cost around $1242 +/- shipping. However, that price is still "wrong" because it excludes the old SSD and 3 Hard drives (2-2TB and 1-1TB) of which we're probably talking about ~$300 USD for them at the time they were purchased between 7 and 12 years ago. Of course, if I bought that storage now, it's WAY cheaper as I could get 2 4TB HDDs for $180 and a 256 m.2 for like $50 when my SSD was like $70 plus and not even a great brand! So to get my current PC from scratch we're talking about $1500 USD! Basically, I'm thankful I've had years to spread out the costs of the upgrades and sold off old cases or power supplies as I upgraded to keep going to the next level. Yeah, the case is a bit "dated" from current designs with better airflow and RGB options, but I'd rather spend that money on better components now and then in a few years make the switch to a different case again. All I'm saying that this NZXT prebuilt actually seems to be decent in terms of pricing that can get you Windows and a decent case that has a lot of space and longevity for future upgrades so that saving up $400 can get a new MOBO and CPU and then a bit later buying a modern graphics card all without breaking the bank at any single point in the process.
