I bought the cheapest prebuilt "gaming" branded PC I could find on Amazon.com to see if it is any good. I was skeptical because they were selling it as a "10-core" gaming system, so let's see if it let me down.

    Although I have alot better components. I use a case similar to that. For me it's better. Having something under the table just churning the fps. And besides one doesnt look at the case when the enemy is shooting at you. The same for keyboard and mouse. No RGB just backlighting.

    @@lordterra1377Agreed, but then again, a competent IT department would have had it physically shredded. It’s definitely made for use in an enterprise level storage system as part of an array and even has NetApp and IBM equivalent part numbers listed. That also means any recovered data would be scrambled without the other drives in the original array to match with. It probably wasn’t encrypted though.

  • @JSTheAnonymousOne

    @JSTheAnonymousOne

    @@mikeg1433 You don't need to shred the drives to make sure no data is recoverable, just write over the data with random stuff a few times or more. Multiple drives can be done in parallel, which greatly reduces overall time. You could shred or degauss them for extra security, but that's really wasteful and I'd rather that be avoided unless there's no other option. Just write data to it encrypted in the first place.

  • @JSTheAnonymousOne

    @JSTheAnonymousOne

    It's funny, my main array is actually a RAID-0 array with a LUKS partition inside, so if one of the drives ended up being wiped, there's no getting the data back. That gives me some piece of mind for if a drive just suddenly dies on me and I have to RMA it. I've used old enterprise drives in the past and they worked alright, just noisy and tend to run a bit hot

    I have a feeling that by law it is a USED PC. It is false advertising about a 10 core processor and it being new. That hard drive is so used it could die any moment too! The VGA port has me wondering what the graphics were too. I know in general on board graphics suck and APUs aren't really a whole lot better except they have a good CPU as part of them. That Dell he once reviewed is looking better by comparison despite being mostly proprietary parts that will make the thing e-waste when anything fails.
