NYC Man Dies After Getting Stabbed In Fight Over Bad Manners

A New York City man died after being stabbed in a fight that stemmed from not receiving a thank you when he held a door open for the suspect at a smoke shop. The two started fighting in the shop and moved outside where the victim was stabbed in the abdomen and neck before the suspect escaped on an e-bike. WNBC's Adam Harding.

That just goes to show that how something is framed and reported to be can quickly set up a precognitive bias in peoples mind and precondition them so see the events that took place in a certain light. The good thing about this situation is that people were able to actually see for themselves that the "Victim" was actually the 'Aggressor' in this matter. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and wanted to try to prove a point. I bet this is not the first altercation he had gotten into, but it proved to be his last.

Exactly. Same here. And I don't take it personally because I know that there are also people who will hold a door or say hi as a way to start an unwanted conversation or to distract someone while their cohort takes a wallet, so it's natural that some people aren't comfortable with responding, they just want to be on their way.

If you do something for someone, you have to do it without expecting reciprocation. If you require a thank you to make your gesture real, then its not done for the right reason. So now, the real victim has become the man who didn't ask him to hold the door, because his life is ruined over an inconsequential act.

I hold the door open for people all the time, and never expect a thank you. I’m from Canada though, and people always thank me. If someone didn’t thank me, I doubt very much I’d confront them.
