I love nursing so much; it's challenging but knowing deep in your heart that you're living your puporse makes the journey worth while. Make sure you don't let a day pass by without reading that will enhance your knowledge as a nurse. We must be able to provide a thorough information to our clients as well as to their family. Absorb everything you can and enjoy! Don't be shy and grab every opportunity you can when you're on the floor. Remember it's for your own gain. Good luck and God bless. Thanks for reaching out. I hope you get somehting out of it. hehe. Like what offcial NURSE BASS SAY, "You gotta grind your heart and work hard"

    Time management is the key to success in nursing school. I think that for those who have a difficult time with time management or is not their skill are the ones who are going to struggle more. Nursing school is hard in the sense that you really need to use critical thinking and learn how to analyze and how to apply it. My personal experience, time management was my weakness, three weeks before the end of my second part of my first semester, Nursing 1, my teacher failed me. I had a difficult time to finish my weekly paperwork that was due, complete holistic assessment, MDS (medication data sheet) X 2, NCP (nursing care plan) X 3, my data collection x 2, pathophysiology data sheet x 2, all this for one week of pt. care. Yes, it was a lot but my lack of time management caused my unsatisfactory grade in clinical. Depending on your school program, you may have a lot of paperwork or maybe not much. Now I have to refocus myself and work on my time management skills, not mentioning that I am a very organized person but you can get caught in time wasting and there you go. This is serious you will be dealing with people's lives and is no joke, take it seriously and be determine and you will be successful. Never give up! You should be very proud of yourself as well as your wife. Good luck in your next semester for your other half of nursing 2.

    +Dawn Hughes HI Dawn, does your school have Provisional condition? When I was choosing my school of choice, I went straight to the website of the state where I am in, and look for the school that they give their accreditation. Good thing that my school has been accredited. Some school have provisional and full approval. If you get your RN ( license ) already, I don't know why the hospital won't accept you. Because, in my state in order to be ELIGIBLE to sit down for an NCLEX-RN EXAM, the school has to be approved, if you took ur license ( NCLEX_RN) exam, shouln't that mean that your school has been accredited? I was just wondering, because like I mention, in the state of NEVADA ( prolly in your area is different) TO BE ELIGIBLE TO SIT down for an NCLEX, the school has to be accredited. It doesn't matter if the school is one of the top list, as long as you pass, you graduate, and pass your NCLEX, hospital here hire you.. My friend recently graduated and got her RN, she works at a hospital now..

    Today I finished my first week of my first year of nursing school and I'm like a little ball of stress. Today I failed a test, it's the first test I've failed, like ever, in my whole life. I wanted to start to cry but I tried to put it in perspective because almost everyone else failed and when you talk to the second year students most of them failed their first DA test as well. Honestly too, I only missed a question and it wasn't math related so I got the hard parts. So I retake it next friday. I've cried twice this week just because I felt overwhelmed. Someone who I vented to this week shared your video with me. I went into it knowing it was hard, of course, that's all you hear. In fact I've been told I'm going to come out of it divorced. So, like being worried it was hard and my kids were going to be neglected may have seemed like enough but to hear I might be divorced, well great, throw that on the load. I just like the it's do-able part, that's what I need to hear it's do-able! I've got a mountain of homework I'm just taking a break because I was told every 30 minutes or so walk away, so I do, and I just wanted to leave a comment. Thanks for making it a point to say it's do-able!

  • @NurseBass

    @NurseBass

    9 жыл бұрын

    +Tanya Bowers That's really awesome that a friend of yours shared my video with you. I'm glad that it was at least encouraging in some manner. Let me just say that whoever told you that you are going to come out of the program divorced is wrong for saying that to you. Sure, it miiiiiiiiiiight put a slight strain on a marriage, but that's wrong for somebody to say that to you. Don't let that sort of nonsense pick at your emotions. Sure, the kids might be neglected every now and then (the whole fend for themselves thing [depending on their age]) but that's alright. Like I always say, it's this extremely short period of sacrifice (2 years flies by so quick it's ridiculous) and then the reward of a fruitful career with endless opportunities awaits. If you have been, don't beat yourself up over crying twice. The first like, 2 to 4 weeks is extremelyyyyyyyyyyy overwhelming for EVERYONE. The waters settle down after a couple of weeks though and things get to normal. Keep me updated and if you feel the need to vent or talk, feel free to email me at nursebass0831@gmail.com :-)

    Keep your head up everyone. I graduated over 20 years ago for the first time. Nurse Bass its funny my baby sis is in nursing school and I said these very words to her. But one thing I want to stress having been there and going through it now for my masters. Make time for your family. They are your support, your cheerleaders. Not to mention you must make time for you time. If anyone saw my calendar, they would laugh, I put all of it in my calendar even down to spending time with my teenage son. Big hugs, keep your heads up, you can do this.

    I'm currently a PCA/US at a level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital. I absolutely love my job and I want to go back to school to get my BSN. The RNs I work with are amazing and are encouraging me to go back to school. I've already had tons of experience from working on trauma floors and med/surg floors. I'm excited to go back to school, but extremely nervous at the same time! I'm a single parent and I want to provide a better life for my child. I've heard the horror stories about nursing school lol. Thanks for this insight, I know it may be the death of me, but if I can pull through, it will totally be worth it. :)

    I go into my full nursing classes in January. Im excited and at the same time I'm super nervous. One factor is my age. I know that I'll be older than most of the students in the class and being a single mom of 4, working full time, balancing a relationship. ...it gets hectic now. I have support of one person (my boyfriend) it's at times I feel alone in this particular journey. I dont know how to vocalize it without being seen as negative. Im going to keep going no matter what though. And of course everything that can get on your nerves and distract you will. Is this normal? ??? Just want to remain as positive as possible yet handle the other stuff too!

  • @NurseBass

    @NurseBass

    9 жыл бұрын

    Evelyn Marshall Yea, I want to say that this is very normal. We're human. We aren't superman and superwoman who can cook for the kids, get them to school, go to work, study for classes, knock out homework and exams, and still come home and NOT be at least a little bit overwhelmed. Often times, this particular journey can feel very lonely, I know that much. But the 'age factor' you were referring to, I think will play an advantage in your favor; at least in regards to your concerns. That's one of the beautiful things about Nursing School, there is a diverse range of age groups and backgrounds of people. In my class, we have single parents, people working full time, people with large families to support. So it is sort of nice in the sense that you won't be alone. You'll have somebody else to talk to about those kinds of things, and bounce your feelings off of. They say, especially in Nursing School, that nobody in your personal life at home is going to exactly understand what you're going through in school, but your fellow Nursing Students will. And that's one of the major reasons why Nursing School graduating classes are so tight-knit. =)

    Thank you so much for these videos. I'm seriously considering nursing school. I'm currently studying pharmacy, but a bit worried about its prospects in the future, whereas nursing seems to be doing very well. I often questioned if I would be a good nurse, and according to the RNs I work with, they think I'd be a very good in the field. Of course they might just be recruiting lol My question to you is this: as far as coursework in nursing school goes, which have been the most challenging? Or what has been the most challenging aspect of nursing? There is an ADN program near where I live that has a good rep, and they're prereqs involve AP 1 and 2, plus micro, and I'm seriously tempted to look into it further.

  • @NurseBass

    @NurseBass

    8 жыл бұрын

    +MatchaCUB Well yes, Nursing as a profession is really booming right now and depending on where you live, Nurses are in high demand. The most challenging things for me in Nursing School so far have been the vast workload that is on our shoulders, and transitioning into the mind of a Nurse. It's very difficult to transition from pre-req courses and studying the material in a "memorizing" sort of fashion to Nursing courses where you really have to develop critical thinking. You're no longer just memorizing the anatomy or the physiology of the body's processes, but you're really taking all of that knowledge and applying it to scenarios and diving even deeper into the pathophysiology of various disease processes and patient presentations based on those diseases. It's very interesting, but takes time to get used to. But good luck and I would definitely recommend at least looking into it! :D

  • @jeremysperling483

    @Gal family I failed for a few reasons. I didn't put in the effort to study. One of my teachers told me that I relied too much on my ability to learn in class, which is true. I thought I was smart enough to not need to study. Another reason was that I didn't really know how to study. I wasn't an organized studier. I was all over the place. I basically had to learn how to study all over again. I did finish the program, thx to study groups and amazing people like Nurse Bass who took their time to educate and explain things differently. I've been a nurse for 4 years now, and it's been a wild ride. Especially through a pandemic! I got tired of the acute setting pretty quickly and found a love for the rehab unit. I don't think I'll be going back to acute any time in the future. Actually, I see myself getting into IV infusions. Congrats on getting into a program! Make nursing school your priority, and you'll succeed. Watch plenty of videos and ask all of the questions. And of course, keep watching Nurse Bass!

    Anita Tambat I think you may have asked this in another video. I tried to respond to it, but maybe it didn't go through. I've heard of a bunch of programs who require students to read large amount texts before class or before school starts. But my program hasn't done that yet. We haven't been required to read 5 chapters by the start of class or anything like that. We are sort of just expected to know the information and to get it from notes and books, etc. But for that information, I definitely recommend what jordansmom143 said below about Nurse Nacole's video. Also, Rachel P has a video on how she studies. It is also helpful! I hope it helps!

    Yeymi Diaz Nursing school can be hard if you allow it to be. You don’t have to be “smart” to succeed in nursing school. Trust me I’m not a genius by any means I struggled in some of my science classes ended dropping A&P first time I took it. It took me 3 times to finally get accepted in nursing school (lpn). My advice the minute you get your books and that instructor gives you the syllabus on the class, start studying ahead right away. I did that every opportunity I got whether it was at work or during a long school break etc., so when it grows near test time your studying stress will not be such a burden. I tell my friends who ask me is nursing school hard? I tell them all the time it can be hard if you allow it to be. If you study ahead, put the time into it on assignments ahead of due date, and balance out your time nursing school is doable.
