My 203 only functions when in hi loc or lo loc, when it’s in hi or lo the truck doesn’t move
In that situation with the unlocked, were you saying it was working properly not locked or not right?
It's slack in the chain I've seen worse, I'd run it remember it takes motor oil not gear oil

well, it's all out of the truck and I plan to rebuild the transmission. from what I have read I can't get new "gears/sprockets" that the chain rides on. is it ok to just swap the chain?? it's a couple hundred bucks in parts to get the seal/bearing kit and the chain.

Chain and seal kit is what you need there is 2 different widths for the chain, pay attention, lots of needle bearings and you'll be fine
