@@dtrips905 If it was anyone other than Adam or Jesse, I'd 100% agree. When it's your buddies you've known for years, I trust their judgement to know how far and how hard to push. I mean, neither one has tried to stop Steve from a "modified" LFR. It's like they know "you will be back" when it's the first game of the next season. They've only said "you have to do them", not how to do them. And at the end of the day, I think they all know that if Steve decides he doesn't want to do them anymore, they would support him. They've just done the friend math and know where this is going to end up.
I want to understand why we gave the "A" to two guys who have not demonstrated any level of leadership. Nylander had to comfort Marner in game 6 who looked like he was crying. I am sorry, when Nylander was playing along side Matthews and Marner, esp. in game 6, all of the sudden the Montreal defenders who were effective against those two, looked ordinary. (Not a knock on Hyman, just that we need to stop making excuses for those two who are making $22 million)

I am not going to diagnose MM, but I can tell you from observation that it seems he's seriously impacted by a paralyzing fear of failure. Having a dad like his, I'm sure that played a role. He really needs a good sports psychologist if he's ever going to make it to the next competitive level.

Thank you! This is what I have been saying but I get blown up everytime. We know his dad has been way too involved, theres videos of Mitch being like 8 years old getting scolded as if it mattered. The majority of the world's best athletes were forced into practicing and perfecting their game by parents. It's usually bordering on what would be considered abusive behaviour but it takes a certain amount of that lifestyle to be the best in the world at something.
Indigenous Teacher here. I can tell you that Residential schools are no longer glossed over at the high school level in the places I've taught, which were in Manitoba, but I don't know how much it's affected education elsewhere. But I also remember barely touching on the subject when I was in high school. Also the guy you were thinking about at 1:43 or so was Chretien. He was head of Indian affairs under Trudeau and drafted the White Papers, which looked at amending the Indian act/dismantling residential schools. His white paper, however, called for the end of Indian status and dismantling the reserve system, which enraged enough Indigenous Canadians that resistance organized, spurring the National Indian Brotherhood (now called the Assembly of First Nations) to publish the Red Paper, which later morphed into their document Indian Control of Indian Education (ICIE for short). ICIE was a big influence on the 94 calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation commission in 201, among other things.

If anyone is interested in a movie on residential schools in Canada, check out the movie called Indian horse (2017). Just a heads up, it’s a very serious movie. Still, it does an excellent job at not only showcasing what life was like for these children but also shows how the survivor's life was forever affected. People tend to forget how recent these schools still existed the last closing in Canada; I believe 1996.

To be fair Steve, Hutch definitely *can* stop pucks well at the AHL level and he's said that he signed because he loves playing with the Marlies.
People forget that Mikheyev was being talked about for the Calder last year. I believe he is a really good player with offensive upside. But he has become what he was told to become. Last year he filled in on the first line and second line a lot and did very well. This year Keefe played him as a 3rd liner and a penalty killer. He had 23 goal season in the KHL before he signed with the leafs. I think he has a lot more upside then we think. Minnesota would appreciate him with Kaprizov

Thank you for speaking about Canada’s history in regards to residential schools, it has been a heartbreaking and eye-opening week learning just how horrendous these schools were. It sounds eerily similar to the Stolen Generations here in Australia. Something we also weren’t really taught about at school either and the true horrors are only being revealed in recent years.

This episode was quality.
I also didn't know my grandfather's stories about surviving Shubenacadie residential school until about 20 years ago. Some of my cousins almost ended up in that hell, but their parents fought tooth and nail to keep them from suffering the same fate. My late sister, who was a musical playwright, took the issue by the horns and worked hard to raise awareness. She starred in Children of God, which premiered at NAC in Ottawa in 2017. It was about a Cree mother who fought to see her children, who were incarcerated, and the scars the surviving children dealt with as adults. A moving musical which hopefully will go back on the road after the Pandemic. She had worked tirelessly on her own musical with her partner Leslie Arden, called Starlight Tours, which had a successful run-through at Sheridan's program (where Come From Away was also workshopped) on the day she died.
We learned about residential schools in high school and it’s crazy to think it’s was so recently that they were open too. One of my moms friends has a grandma that’s a residential school survivor and she says she saw terrible things happen including a live baby being thrown into an incinerator. It’s just absolutely heartbreaking
Speaking as a Bruins fan, I don't even have the heart to "play the classics" anymore. This feels like the pre 2004 Red Sox that would do just enough in the season to get your hopes up just to rip your heart out and stomp on it in the playoffs.
Nice touch to the logo
As an American, your reactions to learning about the residential schools is the same as to when I learned about the Tulsa Massacre, or the Wilmington Coup, or the Philadelphia bombing, which happened in the far off time of 1985!!!!!! I learned about these things on Twitter after I graduated, not in school. I grew up and went to school in the same state as the Wilmington Coup and there was never a hint of it in our education. It is a horrible realization as to how far systemic racism reaches

Any London Knights fans here? I am curious about Marner’s playoff career in the O, they had long playoff runs and that league is no walk in the park come playoffs as well. How did he handle the physical stuff as a teenager is my question?
@bencrncich5088
3 жыл бұрын
He was incredibly dominant on a line with Christian Dvorak and Matthew Tkachuk. I don’t really recall too much physical play from him then, because most teams couldn’t keep up with their talent, and our depth lines were far more physical as you might expect. Marner’s line was just so much more skilled than the opponent it seemed like they scored at will, and Tkachuk’s style of play handled so much of the physicality that Marner could stay on the perimeter. In some of the toughest games, including the memorial cup final, Marner was still good, and deserved the MVP, but wasn’t always the one who scored the big goal.

YES I've been waiting all day!
Secondary scoring was not a problem, 16 and 34 choked
I think it’s important to remember how Matthews and Marner scored their goals. So much about coaching is about matchups, and once our captain went down we were unable to dispatch two first lines and get them playing against lesser talent...even if just for one or two shifts. I would’ve given up on the team if they lost fully healthy. The people we brought in we’re bottom six players and we never brought them into score
