In the comics Huey, Dewey and Louie were living with Donald because the boys had blown up a rocket under their fathers chair as a prank. It caused the boys' mother Della to have a nervous breakdown while the father went to a hospital.

1:54 Actually, Donald left to study magic from Yen Sid in his tower, then went on to serve King Mickey in Disney Castle. Next thing you know, he teams up with Goofy and some spikey-haired 12 year old boy with a sword that looks like a key, fighting these monsters made of pure darkness. Go. Figure -_-

From what I recall, they supposedly blew him up while he was sitting in his reading chair. His name was never released though, but Dumbella (the mother) left the nephews at Donald's house for "just a little while". I dont think she was never seen again except for a short cameo as a child in the Scrooge comics by Keno Don Rosa.

According to Italy, she's lost in space. Yeah, "lost." I call it parental abandonment, straight up. And it's probably because she and her husband never bothered to discipline the little beasts. How does the daughter of two of the world's feistiest ducks end up being such a doormat to her children? Her mother Hortense drove the entire Whiskerville family out of McDuck Castle by herself when she was *seven!* Scrooge renamed a horse after her because the two had similar tempers. The horse's original name? Widow Maker. Hortense also single-handedly sent ALL of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders fleeing Fort Duckburg in terror. Donald only inherited half her temper, but it seems Della didn't inherit any of it.

I honestly hated this show as a kid, not because it's bad, but because it's about a billionaire who goes out of his way to make himself even richer. It wasn't any better during the episode he became poor. Rather than build himself up, he goes into depression and endangers his family to find the lost cargo, just to get back his riches.

He also grew up poor and everything he had "billions " he made himself. How did he do it you ask? He "Worked smarter, not harder". I've carried that phrase around with me since I was 7 after hearing him say it. Which had a very positive effect on my life. I don't know what your problem was for you to have that skewed outlook thinking about it all wrong this whole time. How old were you when the show came out to have the kind of thoughts you did? Your parents must have put some crazy ideas into your head to think of it that way. Once the 3 kids were in his life he became more generous and tempered his "greed". I don't think you really watched the show tbh if you didn't get that part of the show.

Lore-tidbit: The nephews' parents are gone because of a prank they set up, in which they rigged their father's chair with fireworks that'd ignite when he sat down on it. He broke down mentally, had to be put in a psychiatric ward for the rest of his life, and their mother simply could not take care of the three alone. Thusly, she sent them to her cousin Donald Duck, that he would take care of them while their father recovered (he didn't) and then simply disappeared for the rest of the series.

When I was little I thought they kept the names of the characters in the German versions... I just found out about two years ago that this wasn't true. Scrouge's name is Dagobert Duck and his rival I-can't-remember-his-name is called McMoneysack.

geez, you have no idea of that scouts book, if you read the comics, you will see that even Uncle Scrooge is annoyed at that book's limitless knowledge. I mean, that bok is a dictinary to basically all dead languages, glyphs and files in the world, knows all history known and unknown to man and its basically a compendium of all fucking information in the world!

The the first episode of DuckTales I remember seeing was a video including an episode about a minotaur statue after a harp that could tell if you were fibbing, and another one about a magic pearl.

Chris Barbati By which I mean that everything is about money (government, daily life, standard of living, the job market, and of course the economy). But if all of those are about money, and money is about the environment (both through people buying less oil and more electric, thus threatening the money in the oil market), peoples moods (happy = more buying), and war time (shift of production to war necessities), then money is about everything. Thus, by extension, everything drives the government. Money, of course, being the direct cause. Because politicians want some high five figure (abd many more six figure) salaries for occupations that are only marginally more difficult than day to day life. That's not to say they don't do any work, or that their work isn't difficult, but I am stating that many politicians make more than they deserve. Not all, especially at the municipal level. But many.

You want to know the really amazing thing? The recent game DuckTales Remastered, the HD remake of the classic NES game, features (as far as I know) the entire voice actor cast from the cartoon, including Alan Young. 93 years old and he still pulls off Scrooge pretty damn well, even if its very likely his last voicing of McDuck.

There's a reason that this show's theme song is in his top Catchiest Theme Songs list.

I read a comic where Donald explains his sailor shirt. I think he had a mystery romance story with a girl, maybe a mermaid, i don't remember, and he keeps the shirt not to forget her and maybe find her again. :)

Considering how diverse in scope, bizarre, trippy, and occasionally incredibly awesome the comics that Ducktales is based on are, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an obscure story where the Junior Woodchucks make a battlecruiser out of bamboo sticks.

Somehow I always liked Cold Duck. I think it's because a city made entirely of ice is totally awesome (and no critic, I'm not a girl)! Never realised these were all connected stories btw.

I love these scenes between the Critic and Chester. If only Doug was to clone himself, then we could have some kind of collab! lol

I missed this show....DUCKTALES WOOHOO!! Funny thing is that it has been years since I've seen the old story-arc and I still remember all of those scenes.

I just statred watching Duck Tales recently and now it is one of my favorite shows

I liked this show as a kid. Some episodes were actually based on classic Donald Duck comics (although loosely).

Actually, in the comics Donald is occasionally shown on a boat. Though the stories mostly focus on what he does when he's not in navy.

What happened to the parents was that a female duck told a male duck that he was stupid and she hated him. The duck jumped off a cliff and his head blew up. She didn't really mean it, she was just having a bad day. She saw him dead and yelled noooo, but it didn't help because he was already dead. She had the triplets, but they reminded her of him, so she threw them in a dumpster.

Ducktales on the NES was a classic

I loved that game! I don't think I ever beat it though; last level I remember was this jungle temple thing with a robot for the boss? Although I think there was a ship level after that...been a looooong time since I've played it.

Alan Young would have totally won a bunch of voice acting awards if they did a TV show around the "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" Comic-books

Keno Don Rosa pretty much explained the whole "nephews on the loose" thing. The father bailed (and is pretty much unknown) and left them with the mother. Della couldn't make a living for herself, not to talk about three kids, so she sent the lot to Donald. He is a man at least so he might be able get a job to support them (50's - 60's. Yeah. Rosa takes that in mind.)

It's too bad Young couldn't make it to the reboot, I had my doughts though since he was almost 100. Hopefully they find a good replacement.

"I mean what do you think I am; a duck?" I don't know, I always thought that Launchpad was supposed to be a Pelican! I think it's got something to do with his chin!

No surprise that Doug likes El Capitan's voice. Its provided by Jim Cummings, the voice of the badass Dr Robotnik, and the singing voice of Scar and Rasputin. The guy is a VA god.

Flintheart Glomgold not "Frankheart" as in he's got a heart of stone and he hordes money. Today and even as a kid I always bought the tuning fork thing as a reasonable exaggeration of a "common" household item akin to the effects medicine cabinet grade Nitroglycerin or Alum commonly had in golden age cartoons. I really dug seeing this kind of artistic license taken in establishing a new cartoon convention of this kind in over 40 years. Other examples of this sort of thing might include Tom and Jerry's (among other characters) application for vanishing creme, the idea that anvils were useful tools for dropping on individuals' heads rubber bands could stretch forever and ordinary magnets were super strong. Overall good review though!
