Northern Cape: Broken promises | Carte Blanche | M-Net

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟮 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.
In an informal settlement in the Northern Cape... Tannie Nellie Frans, an elderly woman who’s been living in the area for over 50 years, waits for promised government houses to be built across the road from her home. Her community has also been promised a new school and a hospital, something they’ve needed for years. Despite repeated promises, Tannie Nellie hasn’t seen a single contractor on the site. But in this province, unfulfilled promises are a regular feature of residents’ complaints and even the capital, Kimberley, hasn’t been spared. Government has neglected the water system for decades and national funding has been misused and mismanaged by both provincial and local governments. Carte Blanche continues its election coverage in this forgotten part of the country.

Carte Blance - you guys are incredible! I've noticed a recurring pattern in your series on broken promises. It's striking how every 'premier' interviewed seems to fit the same mould. They're impeccably dressed, and live in beaut houses / work in offices with stunning views (Your Easter Cape episode) , yet falter when faced with probing questions. The audacity to laugh during interviews reveals a disturbing level of arrogance from these people.

I'm actually shocked by what I see, I thought this Zamani Saul guy was on top of his game when he took over as a premier, he promised a clean and efficient government but we now see the opposite. With a budget of R2.5b it can't be that difficult to fix the blocked sewer. Hai I give up 🙄

Simple...there is no consequence. Keep voting for the same people, yet the residents expect a different outcome. This is what happens when you consistently give your vote to the ANC. For 30 years! I have no pity. You get what you vote for. In this case gross incompetence and systemic corruption.

We just got confirmation that you should bring your own black pen when vote. There is people at voting stations who is giving Dual point disappearing ink marking pens. Mark on fabric and other surfaces, ink starts to disappear. Marks can be removed with plain water if desired. Please take your own pens. How much more do we have to take. IEC hope they know all the tricks and trades of these criminals. We please have to receive every voting stations ballad paper before done counting. Should there be any mishiff, this voting will be seen as criminal intent and the date should be postponed.

These premiers should be asked how do they justify their salaries. To have millions given to a town should be priority, but one can see that time to complete a project is not important. In the mean time they receive their salaries month after month.
