    When people think of America, they never think of places like this. It looks like something you'd see in a third world country. One particular section of Birmingham was occupied by Latinos and gangs for years. Many of the homes had their windows and even doors removed, apparently due to the heat which is tropical in the summertime. However, this of course went against every city code on the books! Yet B'ham didn't bother to enforce their own codes and force these folks to comply. This is indicative of how corrupt the city government has fallen in the last 20/30 years! That section has since been bought and completely demolish by the buyers.

  • @PJBovio

    @PJBovio

    3 жыл бұрын

    Joeandgod1: I was a Mental Health Practitioner and community services worker for over 30 years and come from a family of social workers. When many of these projects were first built, they were clean, efficient, pleasant places to live. Then the white families moved out to set up housekeeping in white-picket-fence suburbia. Poor people of color along with single mothers, the poverty-stricken elderly, the disabled and other "undesirables" had to stay in the projects because they couldn't afford better, and people of color would not be welcome (to put it mildly) in white suburbia even if they could afford better. Managers of these projects didn't make much of an effort - in fact ANY effort - to keep up maintenance and repairs. I mean, who wants to go out of their way to make life decent and liveable for a bunch of poverty-stricken undesirables, right?? 😒 Bigotry, discrimination and poverty can do terrible things to the human psyche. Unemployment, feelings of despair, anger, resentment and hopelessness often lead to domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse, gangs, violence and neglect. When nobody gives a shit about you, it's a struggle to give a shit about yourself, let alone your surroundings.
