As far as looks go, Birmingham wins and I'm from Memphis!! The thing you have to realize is, Memphis has totally been Gentrified!!!! Especially the downtown area. We don't have LeMoyen Gardens, No Lauderdale Court, We Don't have Dixie Homes, Foot Homes, We Don't have Hurt Village, We Don't have Walter Simmons Project, No Clayborn Homes. All of our Projects have been torn down!!! The Memphis,TN of the 90s would have been a COMPLETE different story!!! But don't be deceived by looks. If you do your research, the Poverty is still a reality in this city. Over 80% of young people live below the poverty line out here. Memphis still ranks amongst the highest in the nation when it comes to poverty. As far as Crime goes, Memphis gets the W!! Not by that much tho cause BHam is wild in it's own right tho this is nothing to be proud of.

@@numbernine3436 Well they were scattered all over the city but in some instances, they rebuilt nice houses that were based on income in the same spot where the Dixie Homes project, LMG, Lauderdale Court, and Hurt Village used to stand. They are doing the same thing with the land that Foote homes stood on. Orange Mound was never Gentrified because it was always predominantly Black. A large portion of people are now living on the Eastside which is where Hickory Hill is, They went to White haven, Frayser, Binghamton, Raliegh, Westwood, Also alot of people moved to the county. Downtown Memphis looks nothing like it did when I was a kid.

This is a close one. I think Memphis has a much more violent reputation but statistically speaking Bham is worse and actually has the 2nd or 3rd highest murder rate in the country this year. Not sure which would feel more dangerous because I'm sure they both display that southern hospitality. What's your take between the two, Charlie?

  • @CharlieBo313

I agree once again lol. This one is pretty close, as far as the dangerous vibe I would give the edge to Memphis. They don't play in Memphis, I've witnessed a lot of incidents in Memphis I didn't get on camera. I was sitting at a Park in Memphis and some dudes approached me asking who was I there with and did I know somebody there, like I was on there turf lol. Birmingham is wild too, I have cousins there who got some wild stories. But strangely you do encounter southern hospitality in both too.

That is cute and true! I miss Birmingham dearly 😪 But, I am now things have change so much from the mid 90s. The only thing I don't miss is the crime. Went UAB for about a year in Pre-Nursing, after graduating from Tuskegee University with a Social Work degree. I enjoyed the person Birmingham allowed me to become and the professional opportunities at what use to be Health South Sports Medicine Hospital and the Department of Human Resources. Much love always ❤ P.S. when it snows and living across the street from Red Mountain ⛰ puts you in another world 🌎

I'm a white guy who has lived in the in the suburbs of Birmingham my whole life. I've been to a lot of those places and not just for work. I still have a lot of friends who are from those areas. Don't let people tell you how you feel. If you listen to everything on TV then you would think that there's a race war going on. In Birmingham a lot of those places were ran down and then the government paid a lot of money to rebuild and expand the "hood" it has been getting better in some areas. However you can only control your own neighborhood. It is what you make it
