Even many non-human intellectual species demonstrate some level of vengeance like elephant, crow, whale, etc. So it is simply the instinct of intellectual beings. I don't think "right" is the best choice of word here, it is our nature to be vengeful when we are being suppressed for whatever reason. Dismissing this nature of man and expecting things can be settled with brute force is just foolish and unconstructive.

People are enduring genocide (not by me according to international law), and once it ceases, I approach them, urging them not to respond in a manner similar to the perpetrators of the genocide. Why? Because it's morally reprehensible. My dear brother or sister, whatever you may be, countries worldwide refrain from imposing harsh penalties, including the death penalty, for a reason. Every court advises the relatives of victims against revenge, as it echoes the primitive vengeance we observe in animals like cows and elephants etc. Your argument is mere futile.

Do I condemn the planning and decision to undertake a mission to return already captured hostages ? No, I don't ! In the process of that mission its possible that things didn't go as planned, that some of the fighters acted out of hand, or came across a real circumstance that they handled incorrectly. Evidence needs to be brought to show how they deviated from their misson, and if they did they would be responsible for their wrongs. The planning, objectives & decision to undertake the mission remain clear and correct. And if we are to check on the particularities of the mission to retrieve hostages , by the resistance, than we must equally check on the particularities of every case in which is Israel took hostages. We must look at what their mission was and how they may have deviated from that mission. We must ask whether the outline of the mission had real, true and moral objectives , and whether the implementation was equally so....

Norman Finkelstein is an absolute prepared man. Piers was dumbing down the conversation with repeated trope questions as if it all began on the 7th. Only to have Norman softly walk him back into humility using the Susan Boyle moment to overcome him into vunerable, calm and coherent then got the message of truth out without constant interuptions. Clinical calm sophistication, no bs.

A few questions: 1. Is the population of the concentration camp suppose to grow or to decline? Somehow the population of Gaza has grown by 40% in the last 18 years. 2. Does the concentration camp usually has a backdoor to go out of the concentration camp? Because there is a border cross to the Arab Republic of Egypt - but of course, all the complains are towards Israel. Hypocrisy? 3. Do the prisoners of the concentration camp usually fire 10,000 rockets and possess tons of explosives and all kinds of weaponry? I have a few more, but let’s begin with these ones.

Subsequent to the withdrawal of the Dutch administration from the Netherlands New Guinea in 1962[25] and implementation of Indonesian administration in 1963,[26] the Free Papua Movement has conducted a low-intensity guerrilla war against Indonesia through the targeting of its military, police,[27] and civilian populations.[28] Papuan separatists have conducted protests and ceremonies, raising their flag for independence or calling for federation with Papua New Guinea,[27] and accuse the Indonesian government of indiscriminate violence and of suppressing their freedom of expression. Indonesia has also been accused of conducting a genocidal campaign[29] against the indigenous inhabitants. In a 2007 book, author De R. G. Crocombe wrote that an estimated 100,000 to 300,000 Papuans had been killed by Indonesian security forces,[23] and many women raped or subjected to other sexual violence.[30] Research on violence toward Papuan women[Note 1] by the Papuan Women's Working Group, together with the Asia Justice Rights (AJAR), found that 64 out of 170 (or 4 out of 10) Papuan women surveyed in 2013, 2017 experienced some form of state violence.[31] A more recent study in 2019 found that 65 out of 249 Papuan women shared such experiences.[Note 2][32][33] Indonesian governance in the region has been compared to that of a police state, involving the suppression of free political association and expression,[34] although others have noted conflicts in Papua are instead caused by the near or total absence of state involvement in some areas.[35] The Indonesian authorities continue to restrict foreign access to the region due to what they officially claim to be "safety and security concerns".[36] Some organizations have called for a peacekeeping mission in the area.[37][38]

This is one of the rare moments in my life, where I see someone brilliantly explain something, and realize I could never have done this. I am so used to thinking, I could have explained that better. But I could never have put that to Piers Morgan so eloquently, as did Norman Finklestein. Here I was aware, I was in the presence of greatness, and humbled.

In fairness he's been doing this a ~long~ time, dealing with pro-Israel arguments from people far more prepared and experienced than Piers Morgan. You can definitely learn a lot from how he structures his points and the way he recognises common ground instead of being adversarial though! Plus if people try to talk over him he just goes "WILL YOU PLEASE LET ME FINISH" until they stop, which is probably why Morgan isn't doing his usual Special Technique of shouting him down

Explained what? The tragedy of the people of Gaza is that they have always been pawns on somebody’s game. In the 1950s they played the Egyptian game, sending terror raids into Israel and suffering Israeli retaliation. Then they became pawns in the Soviet anti-American game under Arafat and PLO. And today they are pawns in the Iranian game under Hamas. Otherwise, if searched for their own reason and based on the large economies of Israel and Egypt, Gaza would prosper. Unfortunately, decades of wrong decisions brought Gazans to their current misery.

Colonial? And millions of sq. kilometers conquered by Arabs are no colonial? Everything the Arabs have today is given them by the West. First, the Arab statehood came into existence after the West eliminated the Turkish Empire. Second, the Arab wealth comes from oil & gas explored by the West with the Western technologies and for the Western machinery. Before that most of the Arab areas were nothing more than sand and dust. Third, the political power of the Arab states comes due to the decision of the Western powers to create international institutions, especially the UN. Before that the Arab opinion barely interested anybody. Even the Suez Canal and the Egyptology as a science and a touristic business brought by the “colonial settlers”.

He deftly threaded, wove together a philosophical, spiritual, psychoanalytic, sociological, political, economic analysis of this horror show. He is literally from the other side of the fence- with parents that survived the Holocaust and has paid a price of being this principals. He is a leading expert in Gaza. He has finally got his moment. His honesty and candor is so rare and shines so bright. He uses logic and feeling. And jews are a multi-ethnicity group with a great deal of diversity in the lineage. So no, its not one race hating another. Furthermore this misses the point. Listening to previous conversations where Norman makes the comparison to African slaves in the US and slave revolts it quickly becomes clear what exactly he means by the things said in the clip.
